The car that started the craze!!! That survivor Vette looks like a museum piece it is so clean!!! The first Corvette had such a clean and stylishly sleek look to it. From the front grill and stone guard covered recessed headlights to the little fins on the tail lights and the "through the body" exhaust tips, this Corvette is just fantastic. Some people also may knock this Corvette's engine being a straight six, but just look at it!!! The Blue Flame Special with the triple carburetor set up was pretty exotic for back in the day and looks great in that car!!! Lou, that had to be a special treat getting to drive such a special survivor first gen Corvette!!! Awesome video!!!

Remarkable car. I've never heard one of these run or ridden in one, so thanks Lou. The exhaust note has an agricultural sound to it. I'd say GM did a good job with this being a first-year car built from a new material. The ride along was quiet and I didn't hear any rattles.

Hi, Lou! There it is, the first of one of the most iconic legends in all of autodom, what for four decades was lauded as America's one and only true sports car (until the Viper came along)! Toby is very fortunate to have found such a pristine original survivor such as this. And in a way, we're all fortunate to still have the Corvette around today. The first-generation Corvettes were initially limited to the Blue Flame six and they used snap-in side curtains, and they were a tough sell. GM might have given up on it after 1955, but when Ford posed a challenge with the first Thunderbird, well, that did it! The '55 did get a V-8 option and more color choices, so that didn't hurt, either. The '56 Corvettes were V-8 all the way and got roll-down windows and more mature styling overall, and it's fortunes began improving from there, and the rest, as they say, is history! Many thanks to you and Toby for taking us all on a fun ride through never-never land! And you really got to live it up when he gave you the chance to drive it for yourself. BTW, I think you and Toby would be very interested in seeing this video introducing that first Corvette. It features David Garroway, the original host of the Today show, which premiered in January 1952, 70 years ago this month. ILL CYA in the next episode! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJfEm6qMjbGkgM0

The surviving and operational 1953 Corvettes are a unique part of automotive history. They were the beginning of American made sports cars. These cars were designed to be enjoyed while driving in nice weather. One interesting thing I noticed is that the three Carter Carburetors had no air cleaner filters, all they had was just a metal screen to keep large particles out. I am sure these classic Corvettes are never driven during windy dusty weather, because there are no air cleaner filters on these carburetors. It was like these carburetors were designed to deliver the maximum amount of air flow and fuel flow with no air restrictions for maximum power.
