@@TheGasTap honestly, the people with these suggestions are idiots. the sound deadening will help cabin noise but seriously.... its a bosch 044...... its designed to be submersed in fuel which will make it almost un noticeable and also it cools it. I'm not going to lie, its probably going to overheat and fail prematurely. the good news is it will probably last a year before that happens. manufacturers use these style pumps all the time but always submersed. ether way killer content and keep up the good work, i can't wait to hear it rip under full load at full throttle!

I tried three different pumps that same style (Edelbrock, Holley) and all of them were loud. I had it mounted correctly, low to the fuel tank, rubber grommets, etc etc. Was still too loud for my liking. The noise is really in the exit hose coming OUT of the pump. I could feel it vibrating. So I installed some tubing insulator (like for home water pipes) and it didn't help much at all. So I went a different route and installed a Carter fuel pump. HUGE improvement. Get rid of that fuel pump and go with a Carter. Done.

I have the same issue. I was talking to a mechanic friend today and he was saying it could be the pump itself. I was reading that the HP In-Line fuel pumps from Holley are supposed to be much more quiet. Going to take my notes back to him tomorrow and see if it makes sense to try. My pre filter, fuel pump and post filter are all quite a distance away from each other. Saw a video from Holley where all three were pretty close together. going to try mounting them closer to see if that helps. Good video showing the different efforts!

Ford cars of the mid '80s had frame mounted high pressure pumps for the cfi. They were insulated from the frame and also had a full length rubber sleeve covering the pump. Like the one you have, but it covered the entire pump. The mounting bracket was also the full length of the pump, kind of like a tube that the rubber sleeve and pump slide inside of. I have the Fitech in my car with the inline pump and it's pretty loud too. I have it mounted to it's own metal bracket with insulated fasteners. I get a lot of noise through the fuel lines. I made 3/8" steel supply and return. I'm going to try insulating the mounting clamps on the fuel lines also.
@garymatthys3605

Just one more thing. Make sure you have a vented gas cap or the pump won't be able to pull fuel from the tank. I think they make vented caps, but I drilled a small hole in mine.

Once you have put all the carpets back in as normal and when you have done all off this try mounting the pump on rubber and then put sound proving over it, hopefully this will work, what this pump reminds me off is when they prime a great big Pratt &wittiness radial engine, good luck 😉

The rubber isolators helped, one more thing you might try to find some dense insulation and wrap the pump all the way around as much as you can. Maybe even make a small metal box with some armor flex glued to the sides and use a couple of screws to mount it to the frame.

For years Mercedes Benz had external fuel pumps mounted behind the passenger wheel. I'm not sure how much fuel they pumped. The fuel pump and filter were mounted together. You may find the fuel pump and filter at the local salvage yard. They never made very much noise at all. You may even be able to mount it where your fuel pump is now. Dylan McCool has a site on here and he is working on a Dodge Challenger. He was able to buy a fuel tank and in tank fuel pump (with a return style system) basically a bolt in, and wire system. I would have to go back and try to see where he bought it from. He said they sell a 1/2 inch and a 5/16 inch pump. He is running a modern day hemi in the car. Those are some more options.

The alarm clock buzzing sound would drive me nuts. Unfortunately quiet electric fuel pumps capable of supplying enough fuel for high power are not cheap. My 440 has a carburetor and luckily I was able to find a mechanical pump that delivers 160 gph @ 16 psi and I run a simple check valve as a bypass regulator to get the pressure down to 7 psi at the carb. If I ever do upgrade to efi, I'm going with an in tank pump. Guess I'll be spending a lot if I do...LOL. Great channel!

Sounds like you're either going to have to live with it or spend a bunch of money on one of those in tank fuel pumps. IMHO a major part of what makes that car so cool is its simplicity. If you got to go through a big complicated rigmarole to silence the thing then me personally I would just live with it rather than do that.
@scrappy7571
@scrappy7571 3 жыл бұрын
Much better. Maybe some foam padding around the pump would help. Also be sure the fuel lines are not touching the body anywhere, that would transmit noise too. I recall you used rubber lined mounting clamps. As for a Db level meter, you can get free apps for the phone. I use one and works well. At least it would be a relative measurement to compare sound level.

Heres an idea - take a thin sheet of aluminum or gavinized sheet metal and cut it out to fit the shape of that open hole where the back rest of the seat use to be and spray the back side with 3m adhesive and buy a roll of alumium bubble rape from a home improvement store and lay it on the back of the cut out sheet metal then pop rivet it to the V frame and sheet metal lips around the open space and floor and where you cut it out to fit around the fender well you us a thick strip of weather stripping folded around the edge of the sheet metal . I did that to my dart and it looks cool and deadens the sounds . wish I could send you a pic of what I did ? its not perfect and I plan on redoing it since I didn't get the angles cut just right .

Several possible issues ... Bigger feed wire no less than 10 gauge .. A real BOSCH 044 yes very expensive or an fuel pump speed controller it will cut down the voltage at idle.. it won't run full tilt at idle

Definitely sounded better after the rubber isolators. Now it just sounds like a GM PS pump and not a jet engine. :)

Disconnect the fuel line from the tank and put it directly in a gas can. If it is much quieter you should consider tank mods for a bigger pickup. Try this on the return side also by dumping the pump outlet into a bucket, then reconnect and dump the return from the motor into a bucket. Restrictions can make it noisy by starving the pump and/or heating and aerating the fuel. I'm thinking the tank pickup probably needs work.

@@TheGasTap Nice pickup! Hard to find sae 30R10 submersible hose in 1/2 inch but then the remote sock seller must have it. If it were the wrong hose type it could pinch completely or partially flat under suction. Hopefully what they gave you was more like hydraulic hose than heater.

I bought the hose from a local industrial supply shop. I explained the usage and that’s what he gave me. It’s made for heavy machinery

@@TheGasTap That may be fine and I hope that works. I'd also look at the hose between the pickup and pump to resist pinching from suction. I use semi-rigid nylon for straight sections or preflared/assembled steel trans lines (ignore or split off fittings) for bends with just enough rubber hose to make connections so it can't pinch and to keep the cost down since good rubber hose is so expensive now, plus there is a limit to how much rubber hose you are allowed. For hoses and lines, check out Mcmaster-carr or aircraft spruce for addel /cushion clamps and 1/4-20 x 3/4 self tapers for blind holes in the unibody or machine screws with nylocks for thru-hole in the pan. For the brake line running all the way through both sides of the sub connector, to prevent rubbing, I'd split length-wise a piece of low pressure fuel hose that will stick out a half inch from each side.

If the brushes in the pump motor are pitching noise like that they aren't healthy. There is a noise/heat paint insulator called Lizardskin that would help a little. I will google around and find a high flow fuel pump that is noiseless.
