What do you have inside your PVC ? When I looked at your pictures it looks like you added something inside the couplings of the two 4x6” pvc couplings. Is that to help reduce noise?
@sega448111 ай бұрын
Do you recommend to add anything to the top of the PCV pipe on the roof to prevent rodents, leaves, weather, etc?

Do you have a problem with squirrels or have trees above your radon system’s exhaust discharge?
@sega448111 ай бұрын
Mostly Squirrels and mice, live in and area with alot of trees so leaves can be an issue

I really like this idea! We have a system in our garage and there is just a slight hum essentially throughout the house but more evident in the 2 bedrooms bordering the garage wall. Are we most likely hearing exhaust noise or would it be the actual fan/blower mounted in the rafters in the garage? Have you noticed a quieter inside after installing this suppressor?
@AmericanRadonMitigation8 ай бұрын
It could be the leading fan’s vibration transferring noise to your home’s framing. I would check that first. The noise suppressor will help with the exhaust noise but not a vibration-transferring noise. You could also add suction points and use a smaller quieter fan.

@@AmericanRadonMitigation Is vibration noise through the house a typical complaint? If so, do you have any videos discussing remedies?

Do the noise suppressors impact performance?
@AmericanRadonMitigation2 ай бұрын
@@lance752 We measured this type of noise suppressor a few years ago and were surprised to find that it has a negligible impact on airflow and pressure drop.

Can it be installed next to the roof vent? (pvc pipe)

Yes, it can.

How would these (Medium Suppressor, specifically) affect CFM?
@AmericanRadonMitigation2 ай бұрын
When we tested the noise suppressor in this video at a radon conference several years ago, its effect on CFM and pressure drop was negligible.

Hi , thanks for your video , I have a question , I want to evacuate my radon on the roof of the house , my pipe exhaust will be near the edge of the roof 2 feet above the roof, but I have a window on that side that is 3 feet below the exhausts pipe is this a problem ? will the radon come back down and re-enter the house ? Radon gas is heavier then the air I presume ?

@AmericanRadonMitigation This noise suppressor seems to work just like a car muffler, muffling the sound exiting the pipe. My problem is that the external fan itself makes a low droning noise that is coming directly into the adjacent living room, and I also hear it in the upstairs bedroom. So it seems my solution involves encasing the fan in some sort of noise reducing box. Do you have any suggestions?
@AmericanRadonMitigation5 ай бұрын
It sounds like the piping above or below the fan is making direct contact with your home’s framing, allowing the vibration of the fan to transfer to the lumber, which can cause the noise you speak of. We often see this with high-suction fans and when the piping below the fan is in direct contact with the rim joist. If that's the case, you may try switching to a smaller fan or enlarging the hole through the rim joist so the piping doesn't touch it. You can fill the gap with backer rod, expanding foam, or rubber. If that's not the case, you can also try loosening the clamp directly above the fan.

What is your opinion on condensate bypassing fir outdoor systems? Can a suppressor like this be combined with a condensate bypass?
@AmericanRadonMitigation8 ай бұрын
We install them on most of our exterior systems. Yes, you can install a noise suppressor with a condensate bypass as well. You'd want the outdoor version. americanradonmitigation.com/product/outdoor-noise-suppressor/

Does it matter where I add the suppressor? I have the fan outside with the pipe going up my wall and around and above the gutter. It seems easier to install this at the fan, but will it suppress the exhaust noise if the suppressor is at the fan and there's 10 ft of pipe above that? On the other hand, I'm concerned about it being a bit top-heavy if I install it at the top.
@AmericanRadonMitigation Жыл бұрын
On an exterior system like yours, we install the outdoor noise suppressor directly above the radon fan. The piping would then go from the top of the noise suppressor to the wall of the house and up. You will likely have to adjust some of the piping. Here’s a link to the noise suppressor I would recommend. americanradonmitigation.com/product/outdoor-noise-suppressor/

Hi , does it make a difference in the noise level if you connect the silencer right after the fan compare to connect it on the roof at the end of the pipe ?
@AmericanRadonMitigation7 ай бұрын
We always connect the noise suppressor directly above the radon fan. I'm not sure it would make a difference in noise levels if you added the noise suppressor on top like we did at the beginning of this video. However, the fiberglass insulation inside the noise suppressor will likely be more protected from the sun if it's not mounted at the top of the system.

@AmericanRadonMitigation if we are hearing the fan from a bathroom and bedroom below the attic fan, would a suppressor help? I was considering more batt insulation between the fan and ceiling. You can hear the fan from the rooms directly below?
@AmericanRadonMitigation6 ай бұрын
It may help some. However, it seems to help most with the exhaust noise outside the house. It sounds like your fan may be oversized, though.
