Everyone should test. I live in a low radon area and my basement is tightly sealed. I shouldn't have a radon problem...correct? Wrong! 18 pCi/L in the basement. Under 1.5 pCi/L in the main floor, probably because we have an ERV. Radon easily permeates through 5" of concrete slab. If I turn off the radon fan, In just 24 hours, it's back at 18 pCi/L. We don't spend much time down there so hopefully, no damage was done, but I have a woodworking and metalworking shop down there and I may spend 8 hours a day for a month a year working on projects. At least I can work down there now and not have to be concerned about it since my numbers are now 0.4 pCi/L in the basement. Since I personally sealed every crack and gap when I built the house, it's very tightly sealed so I'm a little lower on the CFMs than I wan to be. I could get the readings even lower by adding air inlet ports at the far end of the basement to bring outside air in under the slab to help with air flow but 0.4 pCi/L is probably not worth the time to bore holes and run pipe.
