Sriya Lenka is recognized as the first Indian K-pop idol Sriya was announced as a member of BLACKSWAN in 2022, and this introduction was widely covered by both Korean and Indian media, highlighting her as an Indian K-pop idol. She had significant activities including performances at major events (like the Belgium concert and Hockey World Cup) and a Google ad, contributed to her visibility and recognition as an idol. To be the first k-pop idol: 1) Official Membership in a K-pop Group (Sriya got it in 2022) 2) Promotional Activities and Media Presence (Sriya performed as a k-pop idol in Belgium, In India, had fanmeets, more than a dozen articles published about her in 2022 itself, she had a Google ad promoting her as first Indian k-pop idol (heavy marketing in 2022), the company marketed her as Indian k-pop idol, and there were none before her in 2022), collaboration with Sports minister of Odisha in 2022 again, receiving an honorary statement as first Indian k-pop idol, brand endorsement (sky bags, Google etc), media coverage of her and her interviews. All this happened before Aria was even introduced. 3. Training and Development in the K-pop Industry (did that in 2022 before being announced as a member of Blackswan) Debut: first public appearance and performance as an Idol instead of a trainee Trainee: If an individual is in training and has not yet been officially announced as part of a group, they are referred to as a trainee. Idol: A member of a K-pop group, engages in group activities like performances, fan meets, concerts and other events. Difference between Aria and Sriya: Sriya became a k-pop idol in 2022 while Aria was announced as a member of xin in 2023 While both Sriya and Aria are groundbreaking as Indian K-pop idols, Sriya is recognized as the first because she was the earliest to debut in a South Korean group. Aria’s debut adds to the representation of Indian artists in K-pop but does not change the fact that Sriya was the first to achieve this milestone. Asian Community News (ACN): wrote an article about Sriya as first Indian k-pop idol is born (may, 2022 release) Korea Net: many interviews of sriya, highlighting her as first Indian k-pop idol. Many international news have also covered this and ofcourse Indian media has largely covered it since her selection as trainee and finally as first Indian k-pop idol
