This is exactly how actress Jane Mansfield was killed in the 60's. So they made in law since her death that semi-trailers must have a rear bumper to prevent the car from going underneath and getting sheared off thus decapitating the folks inside. All semi-trailers have the "Mansfield bumpers" today but it appears they have little or zero effect to prevent the car from getting sliced in half by going underneath the trailers because I have many YT videos of people getting killed this way.

There is lessons to be learned in these horrible videos. Sadly, too damn many people just don't learn. Where I live I see people(am sure most are good people) drive like they are going to live forever. They speed, run stop signs, don't use their turn signals, and tailgate. Not to mention driving and drinking. As a old stockcar racer I have seen some bad wrecks. But nothing compared to the wrecks I have seen on the highway. People seem to stop thinking as soon as they get behind the wheel. GOD BLESS to all the families who have lost a loved one in a Senseless highway accident.

@zzoinks Жыл бұрын
Even if the BMW was traveling the speed limit, it probably would've still gone under the trailer. The bumpers they put on the backs of trailers are notoriously weak. If you want you can search the crash tests, some even decapitated cars in a 35 mph crash. But it's been 10 years since that video so perhaps safety improvements have been made in newer trailers.

I fear for this happening at our McDonald's too. When they turn into our McDonald's it's at an awkward angle because the road they turn down also goes to two hotels. And they park in our drive thru, so half the time I expect a bad accident to happen with someone running into the tractor trailer, or the tractor trailer hitting them on the way out. We also have the same delivery company.
@gosportjamie4 жыл бұрын
The officers are checking out the damage to the left rear of the BMW during the footage. It has to be considered that that damage could be an indication that there was another vehicle to the left of the BMW that was stopping it moving out to pass the tractor-trailer and there was contact between them. If that is the case, then the paint transfer between the vehicles then becomes forensic evidence, and paint transfer samples can be as unique as DNA...

Mansfield bars aren't meant to stop someone doing 70/90 mph.
@gosportjamie4 жыл бұрын
They're only designed to deflect a vehicle at lower differences of speed. While they could be made strong enough to ward off a vehicle hitting them at high speed, it would significantly add to the empty weight of the trailer and, therefore, reduce payload, and it wouldn't change the likely outcome of a collision as anything strong enough to resist an impact of that nature is likely to inflict fatal injuries on occupants of the impacting vehicle anyway. Add in the fact that the under-run bars have to be hinged or flexible in some way to prevent them grounding out on steep driveways and the like and it becomes much more problematic. People driving around heavy traffic still need to think for themselves and conduct themselves appropriately, it is absolutely not anyone else's reasonable position to have to try and protect people from themselves...
@alexaltrichter15974 жыл бұрын
@@Roundpeg-Squarehole you are absolutely correct. I believe the lower bumpers on semi trailers are only required to withstand 45 mph from an automobile. That would be the differential speed of course.
@tonyfreeman50484 жыл бұрын
Why are they weighing the truck. So they can try to put the blame on him some how that's just wrong
@gosportjamie4 жыл бұрын
No, it's just standard procedure. It's useful to know the weight/mass of an object that a vehicle crashes into, if it's not something fixed to the ground, as the indications of how much it moved when impacted can help in calculations of the speed of the impacting vehicle at the moment of impact...
@oky_8904 жыл бұрын
It's weighed because they have to get the right size crane out there to lift the trailer so they can pull the car out from under it to minimize any excessive damage , the driver of the car may also be completely trapped underneath. They can't just yank the car out without lifting the trailer.

Route 22 West and East, are very dangerous roads. Drivers are not driving……they are FLYING DOWN! And the same goes to Route 78 West and East too……. It is ridiculous at speed these cars go. I have traveled 78 West and East without any problems or incidents but I keep myself at the NORMAL speed limit and ALWAYS keeping my distance from the car or cars in front of me. Route 78 East and West is another road that it is very dangerous too. You got to drive extremely careful. And the same goes to Route 22 West and East. They should have never allowed to have “commercial businesses” in the middle isle of Route 22 because cars are going inside these businesses as well as they are exiting them. So, that creates more traffic problems having cars coming from right and left at the same time while people drives on the road creating a total mess! I know this living in New Jersey all my life. But what can I say……. I am not in the transit authority nor I work there. But they and the governor should be aware of the many accidents that occurs frequently and should do something about them. My opinion.
