One thing to recommend here is when using the Level Meter in R128 mode you also want to make sure you click the box named EBU+18 (as Gregor did here). If you don't the visual graphic, short term and momentary readings cap at -14LUFS so you wont get a fully accurate reading for these measures. The Integrated reading is still accurate though. By default this box is unticked so it's another good reason to create a Preset with the box selected.

Thanks, Gregor. Your videos go at a nice pace: you get is the info we need quickly and clearly! Speaking of LUFS settings for streaming services, though, there is a lot of talk that you shouldn't be too focused on hitting the suggested numbers.

Yow that macro was awesome! I thought the drag and drop workflow in Ableton is the best I've ever experienced but this game changer for me especially I always insert low cut EQ on my tracks. Tying out presonus sphere and Im on month 1 and so far im liking it.

Thank you Gregor. Please add "Auto Loudness Match" on the Meter! I measure the voltage of my sounds using LUFS and match the energy of my sounds. Auto setting my Kick and Bass energy with a preset would be a game changer. I can see myself setting up an "Automatic Mixing System" or an "Auto Balance" with one click of a button and have my mix ready for finishing touches...

There are 3 different types of LUFS measurements, ie. Integrated, Short Term and Momentary. All streaming platform utilize Intergraded as it provides an average of the overall song or source material. Short Term and Momentary are snap shots in time of the LUFS measurements. And besides the LUFS-Integrated value, one must also monitor the Max True Peak value if submitting content to a streaming platform.

Hi Gregor, thank you for this video. For a new song I'm creating, it's only 8 bars of drums so far as the intro to the song. I created that in the Grid Editor of EZ Drummer 3. I then dragged the clip from there into Studio One to create an event for the drums track. Then I duplicated the track (complete) 6 times, renaming them as Kick, Snare, Ride, Crash A2, Crash D5, Tom G1 and deleted midi notes from each track except for what pertained to each of the 6 tracks. I then followed your loudness monitoring steps by inserting the Level Meter as the last insert on the Main channel, set all 6 drums channels to -13.3 and the Main level to -13.4. I selected R128 and LUFS and EBU +18 in the Level Meter. When playing these 8 bars in, the Level Meter is reporting INT -31 LUFS and LRA 1.3 LU. After resetting the Level Meter, it still reports similar results. I'm wondering why this would be the case. There are no other tracks in this song so far. Cheers, Kevin

Do that and you can be sure your songs will be more quiet then others on Spotify. People always show these meterings requirements where it says also about the dynamic range requirement and then just forget about it and show only LUFS metering..and .not even saying about momentary, short or integrated LUFS. You still have not explained what is happening on the mixdown when you tick the loudness box. How exaclty does it work? Its for absolute amateurs to use that option and pray it will not screw up your mix by autolimiting and maximizing.

I don’t really understand why, when I master all my tracks to around -10 LUFS then get them all exported in Studio One at -14 LUFS some can vary in volume so much that I have to adjust the playback volume slightly? Great video as always. It’s surising the amount of things I forget then after watching one of these videos I’m inspired to load Studio One and get stuck in. Keyboard shortcuts for most used presets here I come!

Gregor I can't get the LUFS below about 24. I follow your recommended settings. Even with loudness set to max (max cc011 and max cc001 and max master volume and max channel volumes). I am writing all instrument tracks for orchestral music. Might that be why?

Can you please clarify one thing for me. After setting gain levels on my AVE FX6 Line Level Mixer which is connected to my Studio 26c (XLR out of mixer to balance TRS into interface), do I use the gain knobs on my interface to increase the signal, and if so, does it create noise if I increase the gain past a certain point? Videos suggest to keep the gain on my interface to zero, but the signal barely registers on the graph when recording and is only visible after I normalize the audio.

Can I PLEASÈEEEEEEEEE have a favourite folder so I can put wavs in there for other projects? I always find stuff when not looking that I want for other tunes, but never find them again..... Reason has 1.
@citipunk7840 Жыл бұрын
hi there 😀 open studio one's browser on the right side (F5 normally), open "Files" (between "Loops" and "Cloud"), create your private favourite folder with a marcable name. There it is. want direct access from the desktop, too ? search the folder (you remember ? "marcable name" 😉), right click-on it, send its link to desktop ... ready to go. push any wav you are allowed to use onto the link, use it inside S1 via "Files" and your new folder. peace 👽

Do the best mix you can and let someone else deal with the LUFS - the streaming channel will do it anyway. So this is probably a function that could cause confusion.

Great info Gregor, I am getting ready to do all this stuff you are covering here so thank you. On a humorous note, I think the example music you played in this video could also be repurposed to play at extreme LUFS levels directly at criminals in an interrogation room to make them talk (no, please, turn it off, I'll talk!)
@f-unfairstudiotime2 жыл бұрын
S1 offers excellent metering options, both in the song and project mastering/compiling pages. Speaking of LUFS and levels, unfortunately, these "streaming standards" are everything BUT standards: they are all over the place, way too different between eachother, often changed without warning, poorly explained by the streaming services, almost never followed by any of the major label releases and hits. Honestly, practically no professional mastering studio in the world that i know of will work to those "standards" of target loudness shown in those charts, if anything, a -1dB True Peak 24 bit master is delivered for streaming and video use. Until some sort of serious standard and proper, unified agreement is reached on this, it will never be realistic to deliver masters tailor made for the streaming platforms. Just check out a dozen current major hits in different musical genres and see - no rule, loudness wars still on, just not happening strictly at or around 0dBFSD anymore.
