That's how musical careers worked in Eastern Germany back then. To get acknowleged as a musician you had to go to a musical college and get a degree. That's what he says about much being about sports back then as every stateowned comany had its own sports compartment but music was hard to get in professionally. Also the lyrics were strictly watched by the government. Everything remotely not approved was banned and maybe even imprisoned as an enemy of the state. That's why Rock music from that time (known as 'Ostrock' / 'Eastern Rock') is known for its cryptic lyrics about freedom using many metaphors. So yeah, shame they didn't elaborate on that as it's quite an interesting and twisted subject.

I've been a journalist for 33 years. The interviewer, in this case, is not really listening - he's waiting for the next question. It's quite sad. An interview can last up to two hours and get cut down to 15-20 minutes. There is a depth of history here that should have been covered.

@@stevenzimmerman5751 it upset me how the interviewer moved past the mans experiences without regard.. to read what equates to shitposts, stupid questions that Kruspe answered in a way that raised the value of the otherwise worthless line of conversation, a segway to some experience, yet rather than taking the hand out and pulling the mans story our more elaborately by simply asking to know more, he would abruptly move on to the next shitpost. wasted opportunity. borderline insulting. I think people are afraid of trying to pronounce foreign stuff correctly because they're embarassed of doing it wrong. If you pronounce it totally differently then it's obvious that you're not even trying, so it's not a fail.

7:20 thats exactly that Rammstein spirit I love in this Band. Like they said in Haifisch: “...wenn einer nicht mithält, dann halten wir sofort“. Awesome Guys, honestly.

"It works" is a common message in default webpages on some popular web servers, notably Ubuntu's version of apache2. Therefore, the message that appeared on Rammstein's webpage was most likely caused by a temporary software misconfiguration, rather than having any deeper meaning. Explains why Mr. Kruspe was not aware of it.

Rammstein forever my favourite band! Can’t wait to see them live again. Always amazes me how well Richard can speak English!

Love this band. It's so weird being a person from Canada and America and seeing a literal whole new world of germany. Seeing that their whole country was purely sport rather then any kind of music. It's crazy
@praeceptor2 жыл бұрын
I'd like to specify that this was the case with East Germany. Music was extremely important in East Germany, but you couldn't just do it and evolve into business activities there. You needed a license and some sort of specific education. Productions had to be in German with some exceptions for internationally successful artists, but those were extremely rare. Basically you were trapped inside the German speaking part of the Soviet empire at its western rim. The music market of the free German-speaking world (West-Germany, Switzerland, Austria, South Tyrol (Italy), was dominated by the West German music industry with its international ties. After the crushing of the liberalisation attempts in Czechoslowakia in 1968 it became obvious to the West that the Eastern Block had to be outperformed in every aspect. And since the GDR could not shine (towards the West) with industrial production anymore, showing off with cultural production (TV, film, literature, theatre, music) and especially, sports became a thing for the regime. East German athletes were 'bred' to be high performers in their fields by any means. Several of them had to sacrifice their health for such state goals. In general it can be stated that the education in East Germany was on a high level, especially the academic one. Back to music. To be a successful artist in East Germany you needed to be in line with the regime. But even as such it was possible to be successful in the West. Some used the possibility to perform in Western Europe to stay there and became even more successful.

It's one of the attributes you can't really judge without seeing someone in person, and it's quite strange to think someone is a certain size, and realise they're different in person.

But also like with me I thought all these people were tall when I was little but then I grew up and 6' and still not quite done growing so now most of these people are short compared to me and it's just weird
