Vivian’s contribution to Dio is absolutely legendary! His respect for Steve Clarke is immensely admirable!
@peytonbrezski4 жыл бұрын
wildcatter63 I’d hesitate to say Phil and Viv are better guitarists. If we’re talking about shredding then obviously either of them are better than Steve. But that’s not Steve’s style. If he wanted to be a shredder he would have practiced shreddier stuff and he could have become one but like I said it’s not his style. Your right about his riff writing. Steve wrote so many awesome riffs and came up with a lot of cool licks. Their first two albums in particular really showcase that. Didn’t mean to write an essay here but yea I wouldn’t say phil or Vic are simply better guitarists

A extremely humble man. In this way Vivian is very much like the genius he filled the shoes of, the iconic real engine room, and genius Steve' The Riffmaster' Clark. Two very different players.Steve created magic, his way of constructing guitar chord construction, melodies, riffs, hooks, bends, was simply way ahead of the curve. Mutt mined the gold but you had to have the gold, Steve was the gold. And of course he was also a genuine rock star who oozed cool, strapped low, thin as Sid was, he owned the stage. There is no doubt Steve and Pete played beautifully together, while Steve also had a special chemistry with Phil, best mates, Collen to this day has said there is not a single day he does not think of Steve. This insight about the brilliant genius from Vivian for me, and I'll bet hundreds of millions, is a delight and again it shows just how humble he is, and his deep respect for a man who Viv has said "every night we play 90 per cent of what Steve created". Vivian's playing of Leppard's songs, Steve's parts is obviously very different, I love the sharpness, the crispness and bite Vivian gets when he does 'The Riffmasters' parts and if you watch Vivian playing GOW, TL4L but two examples, one can see him bleeding through with emotion. My subjective opinion is Viv plays Collen, technical as he is, off a short break. 'Rainbow in the dark' which I put the link below shows just what a young tear away fucking beast Viv was back then, sadly for me Collen has taken Steve's parts, many of them in the set list, the opening to 'Photograph' I greedily have always been of the view should be Viv's opening and ride out, although no Kahler Vivian could play these parts, but it is what is is. To see he is cancer free now is also great, and I hope he has at least another decade in front of him. 20:20 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp62pWSleq6mnqc

To be honest, Vivian's stuck to what was, and still is, a pretty thankless task in coming in as Steve's replacement. He's still regarded by many Def Leppard nuts, including myself if I'm honest, as a session guitarist. It's a psychological thing amongst Leppard fans who loved Steve Clark. Clarky was my reason for taking up the guitar. The fact that Vivian's stuck with it for so long and just got on with the job speaks volumes for the guy.

I was stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in 1984 . I was twenty and newlywed. Took my wife to her first concert. Dio and Dokken. Got to see two of my favorite vocalists, especially Ronnie, and two of my favorite guitarists. Not only that Jimmy Bain, Jeff Pilson, Mick Brown and Vinnie Appice. Somebody invent a time machine now.

Vivian inspires me to want to play the guitar 🎸 unfortunately I’m 54, a woman and my Son says I’m too old to learn now. However, Vivian sends a shiver down my spine. ❤

@@seanhunty9304 # same here. Actually talking to and listening to Vinny during his drum clinic he had (1 week after Ronnie's passing) some real interesting but just sad insights on Ronnie and being in the band especially towards the end ... Vinnie though brings just a heavy set of luggage that guy's massive I love him He can drop the SAMSONITE 💪💪💖

Stand Up And SHOUT!!! YEAH!!! Vivian's a ripping player! happy to do a reunion of our band in '05. After the practiced disc tunes were slayed, it was open jam time. me "whats that?' them "Rainbow In The Dark'. man, i'd practice before going to work, just songs i liked and this was one. Grateful for the chance to jam in a band setting for this.
