I got the privilege to met and talk with Louie Bellson one night when I was backstage at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas in 1979. Wayne Newton was the headliner and Louie Bellson was a guest in his show. WOW, what a drummer-I could not believe what I was seeing that night. What an amazing drummer! He is deeply missed. I still have the autographed drum sticks he gave me along with a signed photo of him on his drum set. What a night!

Many years ago, during an interview, Louie and Buddy agreed that Steve Gadd was one of the best up-and-coming drummers. This *superb* drum duo proves, beyond a doubt, that their appraisal of young Steve was right. ❤

so amazing...incredible players and readers!! I got to meet Louis and Vic both at PASIC 1983...bought my first Vic Firth sticks from the man's hand! Very classy gentleman! My girlfriend(later wife) and I were watching ,through the tiny ballroom door windows, Danny Gottlieb finishing up his clinic ...and this head pops up between us.."hey guys..who ya watching?.oh it's Danny Gottlieb...I always liked him!" It was Louis Bellson! He was the nicest guy and what an amazing drummer...His clinic was supreme...later that night her did a drum battle with Peter Erskine..wow!!

I loved it. Haven't seen Steve play hand drums before. Louie so loose, relaxed and graceful. No video drum lessons back in his early days. They didn't appear to be competing, just doin' their thing. Seems to be a lot of Gadd critics these days.. must be because he doesn't play continuous, blinding "white Noise" speed (YAWN). He's also 70 plus years old now.

I love ALL of these players here. I am a student of Russ Moy, Sam Ulano and Joe Morello. I am a drumming instructor, and have done drum exhibitions with Louie, Joe Morello, Ed Shauhnessy, and others. This was very musical. It is unfair to compare and say that one is better than the other, because they ALL offered something different to this piece. I didn't particularly like the sound of Steve's snare here, but he was still terrific, and I love his feel.

2 great drummers loving what they do and each other for doing it. You can't want more than that. Bellson is sadly often over looked by drummers for Jazz greats like Rich, Krupa, Jo Jones, etc. I too was guilty of that but, since then some years ago I took a deep look at Bellson's work, and now I'm starting to think that he may just have been the best but he was too humble to let you know it like Rich would..

I know buddy rich was something else! too exceptional!.A real goat! But I also loved Louie Bellson ! I NEVER followed drummers now regret it big time! But back in 80's ...I remember EVERYTIME Louie Bellson came on late night talk shows I didn't wanna miss any of it! AND he was the 1st drummer did that to me! He always looked nice & humble ! But like a magician !!! It was so fun to watch! Very entertaining!!! AND he was very handsome! Harvey Mason is/was the only drummer that I got his albums out of all drummers bands, or solo progects...Ginger Baker was the 1st I LOVED his style & sound! So they were my 1st favorite drummers.Jon Lee was the very 1st drummer really blew me away & moved me!!! Made me realised a drummer really could be the leading instrument & bring a band to another level...& reminded me of music abc...101....Anyways I miss Louie Bellson & jealous of everybody who saw him live...as well as Joe Morello! AND Buddy Rich .....very very jealous! Lol.Now I dig drummers!!!
