Sang lead in a frat-party band at Penn State from fall 1965 thru spring 1967 and this song was always requested. At the time, I didn't know what the actual lyrics were. I just sang what I understood and what I didn't, I just faked. No one cared. Everyone was having good, rowdy time. Clearly, the singer here is not singing anything risque. He is singing the original lyric written by Richard Berry. This is a super rockin' version. Fantabulous!

@@jesterpro Interesting on the original when Lynn was playing the drums and either dropped the stick or messed up a beat, he dropped the f-bomb, you can here it on the original release😏 Funny the censors were all over this song and never realized the f-bomb got thru. One of the greatest songs ever.
@jesterpro10 ай бұрын
@@drmyeyes5878 You are correct .. In the original cut there are two cuss words that were under the breath and barely audible .. When was from Lynn at the beginning of the guitar solo , (I think), and the other f-bomb was when Jack came in 1 measure too soon after the guitar solo... He gets out two syllables before he realizes he came in on the wrong beat .. Then he says "oh shit",, The cuss words were inaudible , So they were never censored for that however that glitch of coming in one beat too soon as we become part of this song that the people who truly copy the original add that glitch every time they play it ..

Mike played the solo every time the Kingsmen performed... The Kingsmen never had another lead guitar... I think You are talking about Barry with the red beard.. I think he is on the bass... This party went on for 15 takes on the song while I shot the party from every angle... I was on an extended 18 hour day pass from jail... I got caught with some pot... Jack was a really good friend of mine also... there is a movie being made about the story of Louie Louie... Somebody told me that Jack confessed to singing dirty lyrics but he swore the only bad words were when he came in 1 measure too early after the solo.. He said "Oh Shit"

Yeah, but what else did they play?! They didn't set up on stage to play just one 3 minute song!
@jesterpro7 ай бұрын
You are correct sir.. This was a party they threw just to make a video of Louie Louie .. I recorded 16 take's from the scaffolding they set up around the stage and from outside... They had three kegs of Heineken and they invited three sororities to come party.. The guys had to have an invitation from a lady to be there ... It was one heck of a party !!! Dick Peterson and I edited it together .. He was the drummer after Lynn Easton came out front to be the lead singer, when Jack Ely went into the army in 1962 ... After a couple of national tours after the song got banned by the governor of Indiana, Lynn Easton quit the band... They had a couple other front men for a few years, and then Dick Peterson came out from behind the drums and became the front man ... He also handled the business for the band ... I recorded this in 1983, and MTV had just started up... This was one of the most requested videos that year.. It's the national party song for college kids ..
@borisstarosta78237 ай бұрын
@@jesterpro Wow, thanks for that detailed reply, which, if I'm parsing it correctly, meant they played that song 16 times, so you could capture 16 different angles with your one camera! It's certainly a very fun song, but I have to wonder if people didn't tire of it after a dozen plays! On Wikipedia, it says the original Kingmen's song was recorded after the band had had a 90 minute marathon session of playing the song live to some teen club the night before... I suppose this music video taping was a reprise of that experience! I also read that Jack Ely is not the vocalist on this 1983 performance.
@jesterpro7 ай бұрын
@@borisstarosta7823 Again you are correct... There was a huge lawsuit between Jack and Dick about the use of the name "The Kingsmen" and the use of the original recording that was bootlegged 50,000,000 times in the first 10 years... Jack could not use the name "The Kingsmen" and Dick could not lipsync to the original recording.. Dick solved the problem by future recording's having such low quality that you could not tell it was not the original... Jack tried using several similar names such as "The Courtsmen" without any success... This version I produced in 1983 was a re-mix with Freddy as the vocalist..

Thank you for responding I really did not understand the dynamic of the Kingsmen when I wrote this comment Now I understand who Jack Ely was and who Lynn Easton is or was Maybe Mr.Easton the guy originally behind the scenes, understood the power of television that was surging and wanted to be the frontman I only wanted to acknowledge to myself and to others one of the greatest RocknRoll records of all time A group who did it in one take I think a group should work as a team but I understand how record companies took total control taking most of the profits for themselves. It is complicated and unfortunate how music was made a business a long time ago
