Wow, hearing Louis’s vision of young Joe vs Joe’s own stories from his youth, you would think they’re talking about completely separate people. Sir Von... I would love to meet you one day and formally apologize to you. I don't know why because I've never wronged you... just never really liked you which started from your MTV days. It's been a while since I've grown to love you but for some reason.. I just felt the urge that I needed to apologize to you, I hope you see this. You're a genuine dude and I love you for who you are. Thank you for sharing your life with anyone who is willing to listen.

Both Louie and Joe identify as life-long learners. Even though neither of them went to college, they both continued to show curiosity and interest in what they do, even after numerous failures, controversies and tough moments. And they're both in their 50s, and still trying new shit in life.

When you consistently win tournaments as a martial artist it has a tendency to make you humble and not intimidated by anything. Joe didn't NEED comedy he loved doing it, but it wasn't life or death for him. He had options. To have options gives you an indifference that has power.

He also didn’t have options. He wasn’t a successful comic. So he tried to find another way to make a living out of talking. And he just stayed with it long enough to become successful because he had no other options.

@@JK-vc7ie He talks about his early martial arts days on his show all the time. He did win tournaments. These weren't huge national events. Most are small regionals with half a dozen dojos involved. Some would be county wide. With different divisions. If you've never practiced martial arts of course you wouldn't even know this level of competition even existed.

Joe was one of the only guys who didn’t publicly distance from or disavow Louis when he got canceled. People can say what they want about Rogan and some of his views or whatever but he’s clearly a good, grounded human being who isn’t opportunistic or driven by a hunger for fame or whatever… exactly the kind of guy you want in your corner who won’t throw you under the bus to further his own career.

3:18 I have learned that is the way you have to live life, it is the key to self-respect. Question and test your own beliefs ruthlessly and do your best to destroy them - and if a belief holds up anyway, live by it no matter where it takes you, good or bad, and don't look back. In the long run, you probably will come out fine anyway and more importantly you will have your integrity and the right amount of self-confidence.
