Shane Gillis was the only other one, and it’s no surprise to me that Louis CK went on Shane’s podcast too. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. I agree, he says some things that are totally unique and creative. It’s not a matter of intelligence as much as a unique logic and it’s definitely interesting and funny to listen to. A lot of people here are being difficult but they would be hard pressed to beat Theo in some sort of objective “linguistic creativity” or “comedic creativity” competition.

Actually got a picture, autograph and $100 tip from Louie back when I was a mechanic at Sears. He had a blowout on the highway and pulled off to the closest shop. Real cool dude, we kept his privacy by doing business in the back away from the store front, but we chatted the whole time he was there. At the time he was driving a Ford Flex, which had 20 inch wheels so we didn't have a tire in stock. He was about to buy 4 rims and 4 tires if they were in stock, but I ended up putting his spare for him, but he was still super grateful. At the time, I told him I had a fiancée and that we were huge fans; he then took a pic with me, gave me his autograph, and $100 tip. On his way out and after giving me the tip, he told me to buy her something nice, instead I got the photo framed with his autograph and the $100 bill. The autograph said "thanks for almost fixing my fucking car" I was perfectly roasted.

He used to have an old bit where he would say something like: after you have children "fuck a dog", you couldn't care less about anything BUT your own family. I know it's just a bit but there are a lot of truths in his comedy. So for me to see him develop into a 100% focused dad, raising his children, letting them go to the world and come back to a house where now a dog is on the receiving end of this love and nourishment gives me hope, because I am still at the dog fase, pre children :D

1:27:00 - I can probably speak for a lot of us who have been following Theo for years and the relationship we have with him as fans when I say that Louis paying him such a genuinely high compliment about his comedy and his talent absolutely sent me over the moon. You could honestly argue that that's the *_highest_* possible accolade any comedian could ever receive to have one of the greatest comics of all time talk about how you made him laugh so hard and he doesn't even remember the last time someone made him do that. And as he goes on to tell Theo a little later in the episode how he still has so many years of his career ahead of him and will get even better at his craft, it was like Louis almost foreshadowing an eventual passing of the torch. We got to see the actual moment where the f**king GOAT basically told Theo to hold this bitch down when he's gone. And as a long time listener and huge fan of Theo's, that was just one of the greatest moments on this entire podcast. Theo has worked so hard for so many years and considering all the things he's been through and struggles with and yet still manages to be such a good person and always working on himself and trying to improve, it was just so awesome to see him receive such a deserved respect and admiration from an absolute TITAN in the comedy industry. Way to go, Theo. We f**king love you man, praise God baby! 😤

Louie seems to have really come a long way in the past few years. I used to think of him as a bit cynical, jaded, and wasn't afraid to tell people "that's just stupid, what the hells wrong with you?", lol. But now he seems to actually listen to and engage with people much more so than I remember him being. He just seems to really be much more present and in the moment or something. I guess all his therapy, psychedelic therapy, being canceled, etc, has really helped him sort of find himself.

Two of the funniest guys on the planet who somehow have perfectly contrasting senses of humor, with almost total opposite personalities, childhoods, current situations, reactions, responses, perspectives, etc etc.., yet they could not have mingled more seamlessly. They are both incredibly empathetic, and it’s just beautiful to watch CK immediately hone in on Theo’s heightened sensitivity, and subtly adjust his typical demeanor, like he knew Theo could benefit therapeutically to feel understood and appreciated a bit more for even this small amount of time. He was genuinely happy to provide it. He was so invested and interested and amused the entire time. He was almost fatherly here. It brought out the best in him and he fully embraced Theo’s magic. I had that same experience back in highschool, I am 34 now, where I fought another kid and we were taken to the principal's office. While waiting for the principal to call us, they made us sit next to each other which took like forever and I am not sure if they intended it just so we would have time to cool down and get bored and start talking to each other but it worked. By the time we were called to get to the principal's office we were already best mates. We continued being best friends until he died 13 years later. Never seen Louis this chill and pleasant. I usually find him funny but its a different energy. This is almost father-like, talking to a son.

This is my favourite Louis podcast he's done and my favourite Theo Von guest. Louis seems to really like Theo and understand his unique type of intelligence. I think Louis and Theo are both emotionally intelligent dudes.

1:51:45 Louis really nailed it here! When you change to make a situation work, then it's no longer you that is experiencing it, it's a false version of you. This creates a disconnect between who you are and who you're pretending to be. If you can't be yourself while you do something, it's not worth doing no matter what the potential rewards appear to be.

He really hit some solid stuff. For anybody keeping score on philosophy out there, he was, to my ear, really flying close to some David Velleman, Christine Korsgaard, Harry Frankfurt, and a lot of stuff in philosophy of agency and right action. I would pay a lot of money to hear Louis doing some kind of interview with David Velleman.

So cool to see Louis lean into Theos bits and stories rather than just killing them with logic, Burr needs to take notes. This is improv gold 🙌🏼
@goodfish4856
@goodfish4856 Жыл бұрын
The thing with Burr is that a notable part of his comedic approach is that super confrontational, dickish side of himself. That is a large part of what propelled his career. When Burr brings this into an interview/podcast that is not prepared for it, it can get awkward. Like that time on this podcast. That side of Burr obviously does not mesh with Theo's style, at least they did not find a middle ground. One the one hand, a show/podcast should service their guest. That is just how things work in entertainment. On the other hand, you'd think Burr would want to pivot when his style isn't working in a certain context.

The movie isn’t great at all. A neurotic Jewish person. Everybody has problems or addictions, but it’s hard to feel sorry for this typical crybaby. You’ll know what I mean. Think of the red headed Jewish guy that can’t get his hands dirty on Family Guy.
