Louis Edmonds Sings Lullaby for his Dark Shadows Fans

Louis Edmonds, actor on "Dark Shadows" and "All My Children", sang a cute little song for the attendees of the 1998 DS Festival which was held in Las Vegas that year. Louis was unable to attend so he allowed me to record the song at his Setauket, NY home (the Rookery) and it was played at the Festival. Because of Louis' illness, his doctors discouraged him from singing. For anyone who knew or heard Louis speak, it was always obvious that he constantly had a song in his heart that was always ready to burst out. So, occasionally, when his doctors weren't around, he would be a bit naughty and sing a song for his friends. The picture behind Louis is of him as a tow-headed toddler, sitting on his porch in Baton Rouge, LA , along with his beloved grandfather, who was a kindly country doctor.

I’ll never forget … I was talking with Louis and Bob Cobert. Louis gave him a hug and pinched his ass and said, “nothing personal” we all cracked up!!!🤣 Memory Eternal! You are both missed!

Hi this is Scott Denny from The Spectrum in Philly.I have to tell you a little story about Louis.My friend Linda and I were in Grammer School and cut school that day and got the bus to New York and stayed outside the studio where Dark Shadows was filmed.About noon time Louis came out apparently to go to lunch and we asked him to pose for pictures with us which he did.Louis then said you are pretty young do you live around here,it was then we told him we lived in Runnemede N.J. in South Jersey.Louis was shocked and said how did you get here and we said we cut school and took a bus.Louis said you two be very careful and left.Some time later Louis Returned and had two sandwiches and two sodas which he gave to Linda and I,but he went one step further he invited us in and made a point to call Dan Curtis over and tell him where we were from and I can remember Dan in that Blustery voice saying You Got To Be Kidding. Louis made sure we got pictures with everyone that day that was shooting and when we had to go he called a can to take us to the bus station and paid for the cab.Years later when I was older and knew some people at Channel 6 in Philly the ABC affiliate I was able to go up to New York and see All My Children being taped raped and met Louis again.When I said to him you probably won't remember me his,response was I bought you and your friend a sandwich and soda how could I forget you to.Louis then went on to tell Susan Lucci the whole story.I will always cherish my meeting Louis and can't forget his kindness to us.What a nice man and dad he's not here to approach him today to just possibly here him say You Again.

Thank you, Scott, for this great story! Like Louis, I am blown away that you and your friend did something so daring at such a young age! You are so lucky to have met Dan Curtis and to have gotten inside the studio! Did you guys get punished when you got home? BTW, until recently, my Mom lived in South Jersey, in West Berlin and later in Sicklerville. My brother is still in Clementon and my nephew is in Atco. Great area to grow up in!

Thank you so much for posting this lovely video. Back in the 1980s, my dad worked for a soap opera magazine in NYC and he used to visit the various TV studios in the area to take photographs of many of the soap stars. One day I went to work with him, and he took me to ABC studios where they were filming "All My Children," and I met Louis Edmonds. I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time. Louis was without a doubt - to this day - the nicest person I have ever met in my life. He was so kind and such a gentleman and he told my dad that I was a "fine young man." Many years later, I had heard that he passed away and I was heartbroken. I made it a point to start watching Dark Shadows on the Sci-Fi channel when it was being shown daily, and it was always a joy to see any episodes where Louis made an appearance. I also started going to the DS Festivals, and found his biography "Big Lou," and got it autographed by the author, Craig Hamrick. I have such fondness for Louis - he was the greatest :-)

Though Roger was such an aloof character, what a sweet person Louis was. He used that quality late in the series when he awkwardly tried to make amends with son David and was basically rebuffed as David had other things on his mind. That stuck with me as one of the most heartbreaking of the series. So sorry he had to suffer later in life. Glad that he made such a mark in his career to still be in the spotlight half a century after his signature role.

What treat to find this! Thanks for posting. I loved Louis Edmonds in Dark Shadows and followed him over to All My Children, where he was just as wonderful. I vaguely recall one of the West Coast fests, where he was supposed to have a panel. I think what happened was that he showed up on Friday (before I got there) but was too ill to have the panel or Q&A. Maybe that was 1996? I thought it was '98, but I might be mistaken. After awhile, all the fests just sort of run together in my memory. He must have died just a couple of years after this was recorded.

+Blippie Vert Hi Blippie, The LA Festival you're thinking of was 1991. He became ill and had to leave before the Festival started. He thought that he only had a flu bug but it turned out to be throat cancer. The above was recorded in June 1998. He passed in March 2001. He was a wonderful man. Glad you enjoyed this!

Uncle Roger was my fave on Dark Shadows. His wit was so funny. Don't know if he tried to be funny or if it just came out that way, but he was HILARIOUS. He was so nonchalant about everything 😀. Rest in Peace Mr. Edmonds or should I say Uncle Roger.

+Crystal Grose Thanks for your comments. Yes, Roger was a great character and could be very droll and funny. Louis once said at a Festival that his favorite DS character that he portrayed was Joshua. He was great at making each of his characters unique! But, like you, I love Uncle Roger. PS If you had met Louis and called him "Uncle Roger" he would have responded by calling you "Kitten"!

I loved him as Joshua Collins too! That era and clothes from the 1700/1800 periods just suited him perfectly, he was in absolute character for those roles and gave commanding performances in everything he did. Gone but never forgotten. 🕊️ 🌹 ✨
