Wish I could have met Mr. Frid. I always have and always *will* love Dark Shadows!!! Have the complete collection, plus, "The Beginning," and, have watched them all at LEAST five times, over!!! Love the cast and the characters they all played!!! Only wish the modern movie with Johnny Depp wasn't such a farce and was truer to the original character's roles!!! But, I guess that movie just goes to show how NO PERSON could *ever* play the roles like the original people did in Dark Shadows!!! Wish also that the character of Victoria Winters was never "written out" of the original series, and, she could have come *back* to the program after she'd had her baby in real life. LOVE DARK SHADOWS AND ITS CHARACTERS/ACTORS/ACTRESSES, AND, ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!!! BTW - Great catch on the Wolf ,Cane, JF!!!

btw Alexandra Moltke was offered to return to her role as Vicky when she was ready, unfortunately she refused (she said she would only resume the role if she was allowed to be possessed by a demon and be evil for once, which they said no to), and thus the role was written out of the show.

Around the year 2000, there was a person in Yahoo Chat Rooms that had the name Barnabas Collins. He claimed to be Jonathan Frid. He spoke like a person with an eloquent vocabulary. He knew everything about the show and the current whereabouts of his fellow castmates. Of course, anybody could have access to such information. I chatted a number of times with him. I often wonder if it was actually Mr. Frid.
@thejupiter25744 жыл бұрын
Nope, sorry, it was not Frid. Jonathan was not technically inclined and was not on social media. He had no interest in message boards, nor chat rooms, nor Faecbook. He had someone running his website and that is what he concentrated on was his readings. However, I know a number of DS fans that are overly obsessed with the show and with Frid, some of them are on Facebook embarrassing themselves. Sad to say but there are some Barnabas fans who claim to be his son or wife or related when they are not. There are two guys who claim to be him and Barnabas. They dress up and role play and try to convince naive fans on facebook that they are related to Frid when they are not. One guy has a coffin in his apartment SMH One guy want to change his name to that of Frid's. Two guys changed their names to that of Barnabas. One lady wants to change her last name to Frid and then tell everyone that she is Frid's wife. It's very sad but there are overly passionate die hard fans in every fandom who loose touch with reality and long to be someone that they are not.

@@thejupiter2574 I don't believe Jonathan had any children. He never married from what I read. If there was a child seems he would have acknowledged this. He said he didn't want to marry because the life of an actor was not always secure. I think he was afraid he could not support a family.
@Historian2123 жыл бұрын
@@valerieaugustine8083 He was gay. So were many of the other actors on the show (Louis Edmonds, Joel Crothers, and others). Back in the late 60s/early 70s, they had to be closeted for the public, but people connected with the show knew. This is now pretty common knowledge, I'm not breaking any news.
@thejupiter25743 жыл бұрын
@@valerieaugustine8083 What you quoted was one of three 'stock answers' excuses that was given to the media and in interviews to explain why he never married. Personally, I am glad that Mr. Frid did not compromise, give-in to what society and religion expected of people back then by marrying 'straight' for appearances and for the sake of his image and career. Back then many Gay people were in what is called "Lavender Marriages." Where the Gay man or woman would marry a straight person either for appearances or it they wanted to create a family and have kids , like actors Robert Reed and Joel Grey did and so many other gay people who married for the sake of their image and career or to have a family.
