@@LomuHabana Unlikely...However, since he's with the Jaguars and they place twice in London, I'd say there's a chance they bring him up for one of or both of those games to make appearances there. Maybe. But that's probably it for this year. He has a lot to learn. I watched his 3 games with the Chiefs and while he is a great athlete. He looked absolutely lost on the field...which is understandable because he's just starting a whole new game and the other guys have been playing for years.

Hmm… it simply doesn’t follow that LRZ not being on the Chiefs’ practice squad necessarily means that the Chiefs didn’t “see the potential for him in the NFL”. The Chiefs have an outstanding squad for the upcoming season. Brett Veach has set a very high bar. Yet he was full of praise for LRZ, pointing out his potential.

Rugby players HAVE made the transition. The most recent big success is Jordan Mailata. It took time but he's now a starter on one of the best offensive lines. I can see LRZ getting a chance down the line as long as he can stay on a roster, practice teams players often get an opportunity due to injuries. Another pathway is to gain experience through the UFL (formally XFL and USFL) which is a second tier competition (For UK viewers think of it as the difference between Premier League and League 1, so it's significantly lower but still professional)

The reality is he's dealing with a lot of competition in the USA. Rugby os a different game with 80 minutes of on field play vs NFL where you might only get a few minutes to show how good you are in a match. Different sport. An NFL player wouldn't last 2 seconds in top flight rugby. Kudos to him for giving his dream a go and good luck with the next team.

Rugby fan and Nfl here, rugby can be slowed down, set pieces, mauls and at times can be really slow that's why props exist for scrums(injured or tying laces before them), Us athletes would struggle with the grey laws of the game, if US took rugby seriously they would do just fine though they would relate more to rugby league which has more in common with American football

After the Jags dump him (if) he should sign with the UFL/ XFL They could use the exposure , especially to international fans and that league is a better match for where Rees-Zammit's skill set is at. A couple seasons there would be a good stepping stone for a future push into the NFL

They play with 12 men on each side instead of 11, bigger playing field, 3 downs instead of 4. It adds different variables on top of what he still has to learn fundamentally(How to block, running with the proper pad level, the way Football players cut and move are different from Rugby, etc).

LRZ has probably played 3 minutes of competitive American football. It's no surprise he hasn't learned how to apply his talents. I think he's a slot receiver who can do a stint as a returner and a gunner and can even kick. Look, i think he's going to make it. Eventually.... it won't be overnight and it depends on finding a team who'll give him the time. He really really wants it. I got the feeling some of the other rugby players made a bigger impact in preseason but then got bored of sitting on practice squads not playing. I don't think LRZ will do that tbh. I think he'll keep going as long and has the attitude he'll do whatever it takes.

@richardstuart3882 Nobody should doubt NFL players are absolutely elite. It's basically America's national sport. Millions of kids play it, cut down progressively through high school then college to just a couple hundred NFL draftees every year most of whom don't have long careers. I'm not going to disrespect them, especially a player like Mahomes. It's very difficult to play an elite sport if you haven't done it for a long time. Frankly, some less notable rugby players than LRZ like Nate Ebner and Stephen Paea have done better than other crossovers after switching codes in high school or college. For Rees-Zammit, or anyone else to do it in their 20s would be incredible. But he might do it through sheer determination.

@@robmcrob2091 elite, big sport 🤔 there are 79 thousand registered rugby players in Wales a country with less than 1% of the population of the USA, 340,000 players in England a country with about 12.5 % of the population of the usa, , 38.500 rugby players in Scotland with just over 1% of the population of America, 95,000 players in Ireland, a country with around 2% of the population of America that's 552,500 players of which only 37 made it to the last British and Irish lions tour of south africa something that only happens once every 4 years, so you tell me how elite do you need to be to be one of 37 out of 550,000 dreaming and playing for that opportunity since childhood and doing this by the age of 20 when most of your elite American football players are still in college and managed to score the opening try of the tour within 3 minutes 👍 oh and the numbers I've given are adults not kids that's a far greater number, there are 550,000 male adults playing rugby in just the tiny British isles that's a 1 in 3.4 million chance of achieving what lrz had achieved by the age of 20, that's elite👍 not to mention most of the chiefs fans are only chiefs fans due to Taylor swift 🤣 and there were as many people watching France in the quarter finals of the rugby world cup as there was watching "the biggest show on earth" mostly adverts and half time show 👌 American football is not an elite sport , it's the 3rd most watched of the most popular sports in America behind baseball and basketball, in fact field hockey, table tennis and volleyball have a bigger world wide audience 😬 American sports are big in America, other sports are big all over the world

With all the comments, it's clear a lot of people dont know anything about nfl lol i was hoping hed clear waivers so the chiefs could bring back to their practice squad to help him develop his game for a year before putting him on the roster. This lady doesnt know what shes talking about the chiefs organization had planmed to bring him back if he cleared waivers before another team picked him up thats the process for every team unless the have 4 or more years of experience in the nfl then they dont have to clear waiver and go into free agency where they can choose where they want to go at any time

Once he cleared waivers he became a free agent. He could then sign for ANY team that wanted him. If Chiefs wanted him (which I doubt) he could have signed for them if he wanted.

​@MooseUK he is using a loophole in the NFL allowing him to replace an injured IPP player on another team especially as the chiefs were never going to replace their existing IPP player with LRZ on their practice squad. It so happens the Jaguars IPP player Patrick Murtagh broke his ankle on day 8 of training camp so is out for the season. LRZ has only signed a 1 year contract with the Jaguars. If you watched the IPP from this year Murtagh the aussie guy and LRZ were good mates together. Ironic how things have worked out. Murtagh has had bad lack - he was with Detroit last year and got injured and released, went back to IPP for another bash, got picked up by Jaguars and out injured and released again, replaced as IPP player by his IPP team mate LRZ. If u listen to interview by general manager of chiefs Brett Veach they encouraged LRZ to consider other opportunities - polite way of saying we are not signing you to our practice squad.

I wonder if the Jaguars ties to Europe were better for him this year. They will play 2 games in London again this year, and also have international marketing rights in the U.K. Whereas the Chiefs, will not play outside of the USA this year, nor do they have marketing rights in the UK. As a Chiefs fan, I watched him play and wasn't surprised to see him let go. I didn't expect him to be able to stick. He's a great athlete but learning a whole new sport in just a few months? There's no way! Just like an NFL player here that had never played Rugby wouldn't stand a chance of playing professionally if they went to Europe and tried out with only a couple of months of action. I honestly felt that by the 3rd game, LRZ had a couple of decent carries, one he actually gained around 10yds...He also had a good kickoff return too. I feel as though LRZ probably learned about as much as a player could be expected to in 6 weeks. I don't think Veach and Reid in KC saw no longterm potential like what's said in the video...I just think the Chiefs and Jaguars are in different places as an organization. KC can't afford to have a long term project hanging around and Jacksonville can. Plus, the Jaguars play multiple times in London every year so this can help them sell jerseys. KC doesn't need any help selling jerseys.

It took JM a few years before he played any snaps even though his physical attributes and athleticism were exceptional. Now he’s dominant. Still very early days for LRZ - suspect like others that Andy Reid talked him up to his former number 2 and does see a future for him - he just didn’t have the space at Kansas while chasing a 3rd title.

Lawrence Dellaglio played tight end for Michigan state before being drafted to Cleveland Browns for two seasons as a special teams blocker. Rugby is more forgiving when you lack performance. NFL is highly competitive and performance based from the first snap. You better be perfect or play close to it. For LRZ as a RB, he needs to make 10 yards per attempt consistently.

Not good enough... And that's no disrespect to the player... It's a different sport and they should recognise that....Just like if Derreck Henry tried out for a Rugby Union or League team it would probably end up in failure.The only Rugby players who seem to prosper are forwards who try out at the likes of Offensive Tackle(Jason Mailata) Running Back and Wide Receiver are specialised positions that players need to have played from School age.
