The smart move was keeping calm and still during this time - holding (not hiding) onto the tent pole helped me do this. It is a funny pic, haha. But trust me - its was not so easy to keep calm. I was shaking like a leaf after. Xx Louise

Growing up in SA with many bush experiences, I was always taught that when an elephant comes into your space it is best to just keep still and calm. Different story when YOU walk into an elephant;s space. In this case, they knew I was there and chose to come in and they were not aggressive. I was also not sure where the other elephant was, so I didn't want to make any sudden moves. I could smell him, see his eye-lashes and the dirt around his toe-nails. It was so cool.

I wish I could have gotten to be standing next to you at that moment. Really; I know it was terrifying but still I wish I could have been there. Do you view it as a very special moment or wish you could have skipped it?

Why is there so much laughter on these close encounters with elephant videos?
@hlouise057 жыл бұрын
Just nervous laughter from the family who returned to camp to find this scene. There was nothing for them to do except sit tight. Nervous giggles.

The tourist was fortunate as the elephants never displayed any aggressive behaviour.... But lesson learnt here to all tourists in a dangerous game enviroment dont take chances and stay in your tent or your vehicle if a situation like this arises... Honorary Ranger

Talk about a literal walking MOUNTAIN. That has to be the largest elephant I have seen yet with many close seconds across the internet. Both were absolute GIANTS within their own kind. Surely they have names but I'm sure I will never know.

I think it would be wise to not set your camp up under or near any fruit trees that are bearing fruit and especially when the fruit has ripened and is falling from the trees or already on the ground.

Fabulous experience. Special Congrats to Lulu for staying cool, calm and collected AND ignoring the idiot telling her to run ! What were they eating - tough to see from this video and my guess would be seedpods from the Winterthorn Tree aka Apple cores as they twist and shrivel as the dry and resemble apple cores. I might be wiring though. Thanks for posting/sharing you exciting adventure.
