Hi from the U.S.! I just found your channel and yes! I'm binge watching your videos. I think your paintings are simply beautiful and your teaching style is wonderful! Thank you! My thoughts are with you and your countrymen during these horrible fires... I pray for early rain for you all!

For blacks, I usually go with Prussian Blue, Alizarin Crimson, and Burnt Sienna...if I want a cool black, I go heavier with the Prussian Blue, if I want a warm black I increase the Burnt Sienna. It also allows me to vary between warms and cools to avoid a flat-dull black.

A good choice of colours to make black. Thanks for sharing Steve. 😊👍🏻

I cannot get over how that Kookaburra is just sitting on your lap and allowed you to stroke him. BLISS! Your painting is so beautiful and I am currently working on a watercolour painting of 2 Indian Pitta birds based on your teachings. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I love watching them and learn so much from you. It is really helping me to not paint every detail I see:) I read on a comment to mix transparent pyrrole orange from Daniel Smith with Pthalo Blue red shade and it makes a fabulous black or gorgeous rich brown depending on how you mix it. I love that combination.

Love the video. I will definitely go to Patreon and follow the full tutorial. For black I sometimes use burnt umber and dioxazine violet or some purple.

Very nice presentation of a beautiful bird. I used to use Payne's Gray for black, but I ran out and someone suggested French Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna. I like it. You can add a bit more of one or the other to make a warmer or cooler gray.

OMG! That little video at the end!!! Perfect! I rarely mix black, but my watercolor teacher taught me to use Alizarin Crimson and Pthalo green.

Thanks Heidi. I don't think I've got a Phthalo Green so I used the Winsor Green instead. 💜

I never use many different colours. About four or five. And then to get some kind of black or grey, I mix some of them together until it looks fine.

Kookaburra! Is that an old friend?, how long have you known him/her? Here in Oregon we have Canada Geese we've known for years, they come back every spring and enjoy the cracked corn we provide, but they've never been relaxed enough to let us get close! Occasionally we've seen them trailing a little group of goslings.
