Gorgeous! I love the cast shadow from the mane, well painted! You really do have to plan in advance in watercolour, thank you for sharing your thought process for your execution. Big fan of your tutorials!

Thanks Janice. You sure do. I do anyway. I find some subjects just aren't made for watercolour.

Thank you Louise for yet another wonderful tutorial. You are a natural and gifted teacher. I have been inspired to have a go at a couple of your skillshare classes and will keep working my way through them. My husband has offered to gift me a subscription to your patreon classes as well. Glad to hear you have survived the fires. I hope we don't get too many more smoke filled days. At least I get more time indoors painting😁.

Good morning Louise......beautiful zebra😊. I am at the planning stage of this tutorial....meaning that I view the first part of the tutorial.....sometime more than one time....I prepare my paper and make sure that I have the material needed. This video on the techniques used in painting the zebra will be very useful. 🙏 Have a Merry Sunday🎄🌸💗💕

Thank you Jacinthe. I think that's the best way to do them. Watch them first, maybe more than once and then get your paints out and try yourself.

So happy to find another video. I love to watch your techniques. When you did the shadow on the body my eyes bugged out! What a fantastic way to approach it. Dopey me would have been trying to do it in one swoop totally stressing the whole time. My brain is whirring and my fingers aching to run and paint a zebra now! You make it look easy , of course , and I know it is not, but your teaching style and ability are tops! Thanks for sharing, I think for Xmas I will give myself a patreon gift...

I adore everything about your work and tutorials. Do you use a purchased black or mix your blacks? I am starting to understand the power and importance of glazing thanks to you. Your channel should grow in leaps and bounds.
@LouiseDeMasi5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mary. Sometimes I'll mix a black and sometimes I'll use a pre mixed black (usually only on my Zebras and crows though). Pre-mixed black is a dull, lifeless colour that can be quite flat but when you use other colours under it and on it - it can be very striking.

@LouiseDeMasi4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much and thank you for your very kind messages. They are appreciated. You can sign up anytime. It's better for you to do so at the beginning of the month because Patreon charges you your pledge when you first join and then charges you again on the 1st day of every month after that. So if you join today you'll be charged today and then you won't be charged again until the 1st of October.

Gorgeous painting Louise. Is it just experience that helps you decide how your going paint a subject? For example, when would you paint onto dry paper etc? :-) Marion
@LouiseDeMasi5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marion. My decision to paint on wet or dry is always about paint edges (soft and hard). I usually paint on damp paper when I want soft paint edges or if I'm concerned that hard edges might form as I paint. I paint on dry paper when I want hard edges on my paint marks.

This is so beautiful! New subscriber here, would love to know how you transfer your image to paper. Do you draw free hand, use an opaque projector, or a camera lucinda app or tool? Maybe it's in another video that I have not found yet. Really love your content and style of watercolor painting. Your videos are very helpful and I am inspired to get back to painting again!

Hello from Laos. Great videos and engaging tutorials. Thank you. As Alana asks, I am also wondering about how you transfer those lovely images on to the paper. Your images are so clean and crisp.

This is a stupid aside... I love that flat file folder in the background. I know you are in Australia, but any idea if they are available in the US?

Hi Alison, I bought that plan cabinet from a used goods auction about 17 years ago. It was an architect's discarded plan cabinet and it cost about $15. It was an ugly chocolate brown colour and all the paint was chipping off. It has been sitting in my garage ever since gathering dust. My very clever husband dragged it out a few months ago and began doing it up. He grinded all the old paint off it, and repainted it white. He put a timber top on it and new handles and after about 6 weekends of work it now sits pride of place in my painting room.

Any way you can teach me your patience? I feel like I get half way through paintings and ruin them because of patience. 😞
@LouiseDeMasi5 жыл бұрын
Lol......I get that way sometimes too. That's when I walk away from the painting and do something else. 😝
