Black Winter is my favorite pickup. With a tone knob, you can go from very clean to straight death metal. And still maintain that organic passive sound. It’s gorgeous clean though, but no one plays them clean.

@@louistorres I've yet to try an A8 since they're on the uncommon side. The only bad I've heard is that some have described them to be "clangy" at times which I take it from your praise hasn't been the case for you. I've also heard that they sound really "big" with thick low mids which sounds dreamy to me. Thanks for the video by the way!

Excellent. Example the Seymour Duncan 'SLUG' is 40K ohms. Does that mean it puts out 1200 millivolts? Possibly close. There is some relation to Resistance in K Ohms. However it does not necessarily mean that the output is the highest for a given amount of resistance. You can achieve lower resistance coupled with greater millivolt output and greater signal to the amp and greater inductance in the pickup produced based on the sciences of pickup design. Although 'Output' is the millivolts not the resistance that are the K Ohms. Output is your peak volume. Resistance versus your millivolts output is your headroom. Larry DiMarzio is the only one that has it all correct on their website. Seymour duncan is a million miles far behind on their website. However they also make great pickups. DiMarzio specifications are awesome to reference like this= Bass, Low midrange, High midrange, Treble,. Millivolts, Resistance, magnet type. And the only thing left to check at home IS the INDUCTANCE. This shall tell you almost everything you need to know about a pickup and better for reference and sound referencing. If Larry told about the inductance on the website then there would not be a better pickup selecting tooL, than the website itself and Dimarzio is only one single input step away from achieving this, with listing the inductance with what is up on website already. Based on this, i must choose DiMarzio for sound searching what i am want to use for what purpose or instrument. The reason being i am can match pickups from different brands or the same with different pickups! In this way, you can mix and match for a pallete of your choosing to do what you want it to. Thanks to DiMarzio for this great insight and impeccable work and exquisite detail that is DiMarzio. Of course we know what duncans sound like. And there are must have duncans that you need in your recording studio, and there is a reason. So in every tool box i am recommend pickups from many different manufacturers and custom builders as well. Voodoo pickups, Bareknuckle pickups, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, and Lundgren to name a few. Legendary pickups as well. Some Gibson pickups also. It goes on forever. However there are very specific pickups that are must have. Like the SUHR thornbucker Pete Thorn signature model.

Your Nazgul is going to have more highs bled off it with a tone control pot in the circuit, even dialed all the way down it still bleeds some off unless you run a no-load tone pot which would completely bypass it when set to up all the way. The Black Winter you have no tone pot so it is completely bypassed...you'll hear all of it. Its hard for me to tell any difference going through your recorder, compressed, put on yourtube, and replayed back on my tv.... but if you hear that high tinny on the Black Winters try a tone pot and cap. or a different tone cap.

Thats weird.. I coulda swore the Nazgul was advertised as being for lower tunings/extended range. Maybe my perspective is skewed since some of the black winter demos I watched played some black metal trem-picked high chords and stuff. I bought my 2018 Solar E1.6 evertune used off Reverb (from back when Ola used to QC them in person) specifically to let me thrash away and keep drop A# in tune- but the duncan solars just seem muddy to me. Theyre not terrible, but for my purposes I want something with more bite, since Im going pretty low. Im trying to decide what pickups I wanna put in it. Something full and crushing, without shrill high-end/attack. Im debating between lundgren, fishman and seymour duncan currently. I just have so many demos to listen to in-depth..

The Nazgul is great for lower or standard tunings. I use it in a PRS for standard tunings most of the time and it sounds great. It has incredible ceramic low-end clarity and screams for leads, has great sustain. It's lower output than a Black Winter but you'd never know that playing one.

@@angusorvid8840 sounds like it’ll probably be good for C standard/drop A# then. Good lows and enough bite.

@@edgyswordsmanmusic6769 Yes. The Naz can do it very well. I rarely tune below D, but the Naz can handle it. It's designed to keep clarity and cut while piling on the gain. Sounds great in standard tuning as well. It's like a Duncan Distortion and Duncan Custom combined. It does have lower output than a Distortion, but you would not notice this playing one. It's just very well designed. An outstanding shred pickup as well. Love it.

Nazgul is fine, the issue is with the Sentient.
@mathias6423 Жыл бұрын
What issue might that be ? The little I have heard the Sentient sounded good in the neck position and seemed like a good addition to the Nazgul bridge.

Great demo. I love both pups but have the Nazgul on my PRS. Sounds incredible. I rarely down tune, stay mostly in E standard, and it works great. I tune to D occasionally and this pup can definitely handle lower tunings. I will be putting one on my Schecter as well.

Great video brother! I'd love to see the dimebucker comparison. Have you ever checked out motor city pickups nuke? That would be awesome to see you do a video on.

Like them both but you should do a comparison of the dimebucker vs the nazgul I’m getting a new dean ml with one but as you said I already tune down alot great video
