Worked solution for Question 2, Chapter 14 (available as free download at www.particles....) in Fundamentals of Particle Technology. How to design a simple Louvre system to collect particles flowing in a gas stream. In this instance the louvre is horizontal and particles simply sediment out of the gas stream onto a tray, and there are 8 trays in the chamber plus the base (acting also as a collection tray). Louvre collectors have very low pressure drop and can operate at high temperature, so they appear to be an effective device for particle capture. However, the mathematical analysis suggests otherwise. For the basis of the critical particle trajectory model see the Camp Hazen video, part of the videos for dilute systems, Chapter 5 in Fundamentals of Particle Technology.
