"I hope I get the half that eats..." Sleeper, Love and Death, Take the Money and Run - Woody Allen's early comedies were insanely funny and highly therapeutic, reminding me that I was not the only person wondering if the world was crazy.

Woody and Diane always just worked so well together they were always so enjoyable. Allen’s philosophical writing mixed with comedy is brilliant

You have TOTALLY Missed the BRILLIANCE of Woody Allen by fooloshly admiring the lame supporting cast. You obviously can do no better.

Woody is a comic genius! I feel blessed to be of an age to have seen him perform live stand-up on television, and to have seen his movies upon release in movie theaters. His modern interpretations of slapstick comedy are pure brilliance. The opening sequence of Play It Again Sam, with a close up of Woody's face, had me rolling in the aisle laughing before the movie had begun. Bravo Maestro!

I've never thought much of Diane Keaton's roles in non-Woody films but she for me she was at her best in Sleeper, Annie Hall, and here in Love and Death. She gets the jokes and plays her role with just the right amount of mock seriousness. She is entirely committed, quick and works well with Woody.

When I watch this movie, I laugh at almost every line-even from my first viewing. I once watched it on a date -- she didn't laugh once-except for the line where Diane made food out of snow and said, "For dessert, I have a nice bowl of sleet." We weren't a match.

When Diane Keaton is giving her speech she sounds exactly like Nigel Hawthorne, Sir Humphrey in the British 70's/80's sitcom "Yes, Minister". It is a stream of big words that to almost everyone mean nothing. Included is "epistemological", a word used by Sir Humphrey in one of his speeches to the Prime Minister. It occurs to me that these are the only times I have ever heard this arcane Churchillian word used. Epistemology is a branch of philosophy referring to the acquisition of knowledge. It derives from the Latin "epistola" a written note or letter.

I used to have that memorized. Philosophy majors would be extremely impressed with me rattling all that off, for a moment, until they realized a moment later it was a joke. :) Then they would be amused and annoyed...mostly annoyed.

A Jewish friend of mne was a speech therapist in the province of Quebed. Decades ago, when the mother of one of her clients found out she was a Jew, she asked "Where are your horns?" (One source of this were the apparent "horns" on Michaelangelo's Moses. This appears to originate in mistranslation of a word in the OT, which could Moses's face was shining, not "horned".

? Not quite perhaps ….obviously Wikipedia didn’t exist when young Woody was reading these texts - read his early stories as they’re not just funny but full of allusions to Tolstoy , Dostoevsky and Kafka as well…

@@phillipoos I'm just saying you don't need to have some great knowledge of the Russian classics. A short Wikipedia article would give you enough information to appreciate the jokes, which you'd pretty much get anyway. Woody Allen is very funny but there was never anything particularly intellectual about his humor.
