I do a lot of bicycle touring. Needless to say I do my best to avoid the big cities, and hit the small towns. Nanci sings to the salt of the earth, the girls that make the counter shine, the girls that wink at the boys that build the infrastructure. When people get over themselves, they will realize that we need each other, and we will realize just how much we lost when Nanci passed.

I love when singers get older. The men like Kris and Cash get what I call Dustyer, and the ladies voiced are honest and realistic. I’m almost 62 and this video was top notch!?

Pretty sure Nanci was tongue-in-cheek with that first comment. That said, she never broke through to big country success and was probably always wondering why it took someone else to make her song a hit…..

What's up with the petty comment about the swimming pool?
@ericaking6299 Жыл бұрын
Not everyone wants a swimming pool. Lol. i was like 'sting' & 'ouch' Comment seems out of character for her, hmm wonder who were those other writers at that workshop.
@SteveSmith-kc8rn4 жыл бұрын
I’m sure the label execs who came up with the line “this is why I have a swimming pool and you don’t” were pleased as punch with themselves but it goes over like a lead balloon as you can plainly see. She was all about authenticity and that line simply fails to deliver.

Steve, maybe because I'm Italian and my English is not Ok, but I didn't understand the joke of Nanci's swimming pool, can you explain it to me? thanks
@Fordham19693 жыл бұрын
@@FrancoS59 This song was a big hit for her and so it earned her a lot of money. Having your own swimming pool is thought of as a symbol of affluence, a luxury item. I don't imagine she literally bought a swimming pool with her royalties, I think she's jokingly suggesting that if those other writers did what they were supposed to do by writing new songs, those songs may have been hits also and so they could have afforded their own swimming pools in the same way she could.
@FrancoS593 жыл бұрын
Fordham, Mrs Nanci Griffith certainly is rich and famous but I think she is much less so compared to the greatness of her art (especially when compared to that even less talented colleagues than her). However, I think there was also irony in Nanci's words...
@paulreider83212 жыл бұрын
Steve thanks for saying what I was thinking...when I heard her say that I was surprised because she had such a reputation of kind generosity which is the opposite of how she came across...maybe she was having a hard time in her life, either way we all deserve a mulligan every once and while...I'll give her that courtesy here, RIP Nanci

I like the song, Nanci. Always have. But the comment about the other songwriters you beat was bullying. So you got a swimming pool? Did you made a deal with the Devil? Are you enjoying the money & fame now that you're dead?
