I think you’re incorrect in the references in the game are actually referring to. This episode is pretty clearly based off of the video game Starcraft. The music, characters, aliens, etc... Starcraft did get inspiration from the movie Alien and even copied some lines from the movies and used them in the game. Anyway, I can see why you thought the aliens were referencing the xenomorphs, but they were actually more like Zerglings. I could go into more detail but you get the idea.

@@MrDapotpie -- The episode also reminded me of the "Hero Defense" genre of StarCraft custom maps. You start with one general-purpose hero and then level up and add specialized heroes to your team as the levels go on, building to a big boss fight or air attack every 4th or 5th wave. There's also elements of "leaks" potentially leading to losing "lives" if not "the entire map" and other players being tied down fighting in other "lanes". You could even realistically see elements of tower defense games and "mazes" working it's way into potential future episodes. The best part for me is the fact that the characters unironically LIVE in one of those maps and I totally BUY INTO IT. I'd watch whole episodes about school dances and town hall meetings just to see how the mechs, bugs and the wider universe outside the dome figure into their daily lives.

Ok this gave me an idea for a game. Think stardew Valley mixed with Mechs. Your daily routine is fix your farm, grow crops, mingle with the locals, oh and defend your farm and the community from the breaches and swarms. Customize your farm as well as your mechs.

Planets with arable soil and plenty of water are EXTREMELY rare dude. Any planet that can support human farming of fresh produce is probably priceless. Go find out how much sailors used to pay for fresh fruit. Then there's the fact that at least two of the three pilots are ex-military. This is probably a lot less combat than they USED to deal with. (Also, the game is called StarCraft II Custom Hero Defense. You can get it for free on Battlenet)

Anyone else get very much a Titanfall vibe from it? Especially 2 where one titan, Northstar I believe, has a laser over its shoulder like Jake's mech. Jake's mech also looks a little similar to this Northstar in shape. Finally, in the opening of Titanfall 2 there's a small clip where titans are actually being used on a farm

The episode was taken from the Starcraft Universe. The two main characters are based on Tychus and Sgt. Hammer (Hank and Crazy Mel). They use the same weapons, are voiced by the same voice actors and use the exact same catch phrases that they use in the Blizzard game Heroes of the Storm. The aliens are zerglings from Starcraft. The big one is an Ultralisk.

first off i have to ask how many would love to see some of the episodes get turn into full series? as for the for the idea of the humans invading doesn't quiet feel right for how it's set up, the "Bugs" seem more like swarm of locusts looking to eat everything that is made of meat, or that how it looked to me.

You mentioned the fact that it's not taking place on Earth as some sort of a secondary detail, while that was the whole point of the episode. It's very carefully crafted to make absolutely sure you are rooting for the "defenders of the Earth" only to show you at the end that the moral side of the situation is actually totally unclear. Also, all those references to cheesy Hollywood sci-fi, the overall primitivity of the heroic plot that clearly stands out compared to other episodes, all serve the same purpose - to make fun of viewers, to show that propaganda can be effective while using even the most unsophisticated tools. The whole episode is a masterfully made demonstration and critique of the power of propaganda.

Definitely some nods to Wildstar with the low tech space farmers vibe, mixed with that country twang, the planet at the end nails it looking like Nexus too, along with the whole art style. The bots themselves remind me of Into the Breach, possibly some inspiration there.

Just to add to this, this whole episode seems heavily inspired in one of last years most successful indie games, Into the Breach! The monsters are incredibly similar to one of the types of foes in the game, and it's a turn-based strategy game where you control 3 pilots in their mechas to fight off hordes of these monsters who are breaching into your planets.

Like the Xenomorphs, those fiends strike me to be mindless, living weapons that travel planet to planet, an artificially created species that's bred to annihilate entire biospheres. This planet may be one that humans colonized before it fell to these monsters, how else could they live on such a barren and dead world? For me, it makes the most sense that Hank, Jake, and Mel are one of several vanguards for a Reconquista, who are descendants of the humans who originally owned the planet before the aliens they fight forced the last survivors to flee for their lives. These people seem to be most drawn from the heartland of the U.S. in culture, I believe the territory was initially owned by humans before being lost to the creatures, resulting in the entirety of the native biosphere being annihilated, these aliens do not strike me as natural creatures, but living weapons that either broke free and rampaged everywhere or were sent by an alien race that declared war and tried to exterminate humanity but lost after a few generations of bloody violence(explaining why these people waited to return).

Another interpretation of the ending could be that its a human planet, the farmers don't have communication with the rest of the world and are unaware of the extent that the aliens have overun their planet. That would explain why earlier on they were shocked at the number of aliens coming through.

Mining? Farming yeah that makes sense since that requires the right type of rock around a star for that, but if you have the ability to make bio domes, you could just mine astronauts. Richer in mineral we need with less monsters to kill. Though if that is the case they are doing wrong, as industrial farming we do today with crops and livestock is far more effective than what they show. It look to me more like a group of people setting up their own world away from earth and this was the first world they found. Note that just because a place terrible to live does not mean that they would not move there if it meant more freedoms and opportunities, like the greek colonies through out the Mediterranean or the mormon church to deserts of Utah.

Hank looks a lot like Mel Gibson in Signs, creatures are clearly designed after warhammer 40k tyranids. Tyranids are designed after xenomorphs in Aliens so that forms a nice circle. And of course the starship troopers from Verhoeven's movie. Book is totally different.

The music sounds very similar to StarCraft 2's music the metal country twang type. Even the character was familiar to the main SC2 marine Jim Raynor mixed with Arcane's Vander. Even the voices felt familiar to SC2 -- the siege tank. The creatures are like the Zerg and their classic Zerg Rush. There were even some audio clips I swore were actually from the game's samples lol. Like the, "holly shit", "sorry sweetheart, play time's over" from the gal in the mech suit -- which she resembles the siege tank from SC2 a lot because of their masculinity, and I swear they're the same voice actor too.

I love the series and I would like to Jake in other episodes as seeing one of the most improved mechs and helpful one this might be a harder fight for them and seeing multiple green domes I actually thought that that was saturn and maybe since there were multiple domes one day the people might actually come together Although that is only a theory there's a high chance there's multiple giant creatures so they might not survive another giant breach with their cows gone they will have nothing to eat

This episode existing is why I hated Secret War. Secret War seemed to just be an episode leading up to the final battle where a bunch of alien-like monsters attack in a horde and an important character has to hit the self-destruct button. All of that happened in this episode. The differences between them is The Secret War had a lame creepypasta backstory to the creatures, and this one had an amazing concept giving farmers mechs, adding a secret story with the planet, and glossing it all over with a colorful and appealing to look at art style (not to mention the proud scare crow at the end). And with Secret War being the last episode I saw in the series, I felt completely underwhelmed.

I've been playing allot of Titanfall 2 recently and I just finished watching the suits episode. The art style/animation reminds me allot of the Apex legends promotional advertising and the mechs also remind me of Titanfall. Since they are in the same universe (confirmed with the intro of Valkyrie) I wanna say that respawn may have worked on this episode. I don't know who worked on this ep, nor do I want to find out so I'm only thinking of this as a cute nod to the Titanfall universe
