Shenandoah is extremely high on the list of Great American Songs. Match it with the talent of Ernie Ford and you have a classic that lasts thru the ages.

If you adore kids at all, I suggest that you react to a clip from a TV show that he did, in the 50s and 60s. During every episode of his show, he invited all of the kids in the audience, up on stage, He always sat down with them, and sang a song. This particular one is Children, Go Where I Send Thee. It's kind of a blooper, but it was live tv, so it went on just the way it happened. It'll put a smile on your face.

This song makes me so homesick. I think I'll take a run down to Virginia and see that beautiful Shenandoah River again

This is an example of the "American Songbook" category of music. You can't go wrong with any of them. Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, performed by almost every singer ever.

He had a very popular TV show in the fifties. He ended each show with a hymn. The network and sponsor didn't want him to, but it was a much loved part of the show. You might enjoy the video from his show of Noah Found Grace.

Shenandoah was written about a young man going to war, leaving home, and the woman he loved, knowing he would never see either again.

SHAWN and MEL, you should do a MOVIE reaction to the 1965 movie "SHENANDOAH" starring JAMES STEWART, it takes place during the American CIVIL WAR. It is a great movie, but sad. The song "Shenandoah" is a folk song whose origin is not really known but today it is associated with the Civil War, and was probably NOT written any time AFTER the Civil War.

Before I realized I was MrWondrous, I tried on many hats and gloves, and since Tennessee Ernie Ford was so famous amongst the young whippersnappers, I figured I would try "North Carolina Ernest Chevrolet" as a stage name, but somehow it never caught on. Maybe if I had used "North Carolina Ernest General Motors". [Twilight Zone theme] Gonna go check out 16 Tons now... Peace.
