Best version EVER!! NOT for pure technical perfection - it's got plenty of buzzy, half-fretted or muted notes - but in this case, they don't detract - rather, they ADD to the authenticity, the realness, the rip-your-guts-out-and-make-you-bawl-cryin' bluesy feeling of this masterpiece. Beautiful weaving, par excellence. RIP, Charles Robert Watts - I'll be missing you in Charlotte, NC, 9/30/21.

Yes...especially when Paul McCartney just said that the Beatles were better than the Rolling Stones. In a million years the Beatles could never do this. George Harrison was no Ronnie Wood or Mick Taylor. John Lennon was no Keith Richards. Ringo Starr could never come close to Charlie Watts. McCartney was not in the same neighborhood as Bill Wyman. The Beatles never had a Mick Jagger. The Rolling Stones are still touring. The Beatles stopped in 1966. The "best" my ass...

During their last tour I took a younger friend of mine (we're both musicians in the same band) to see the Stones because my wife couldn't go. He was not a big Stones fan but was mildly interested in seeing them. I forgot what they opened with but my friend didn't have much to say. Then they did Only Rock and Roll where Ronnie definitely caught a wave during his solo and was doing things I've never heard him do. After the song my friend said "now I get it." I told him that there's a reason why the Rolling Stones are called the greatest rock and roll band--because they ARE.

@George Horner Oh fuck off. So sick of the Mick Taylor BS fanboys. Taylor is a virtuoso guitar God, no doubt. Ronnie is better for the Stones. Mick Taylor was a glittery guitar player, but he made no substantial musical contribution other than his wonderful stage solos. He added very little in terms of actual songwriting. (And I love the songs he did contribute to, but Ronnie has had far more influence there -- It's Only Rock and Roll being the biggest...he wrote that with Mick J before he was even a Stone!)
@local78235 жыл бұрын
