Julien talking about his confusion about why Abbey went after Joel- 2:23:20 I remember watching this game the first time when Negaoryx played and my initial reaction was anger, but it was also amazing to see that Julien is understanding that, to us, Joel is the hero, but he is a character in this world where he has lived a full life where somehow he angered those WLF people so bad they hunted him down. I just love the way the developers really made Part 2 and developed the world we came to know in the first game. Also, I kinda wish Julien took a little more time to explore areas (like Joel's house) because there are so many little things the devs put in there to develop context clues about missing time.

i haven't played this game since release and i completely forgot that joel saves abby, a complete stranger. in TLOU he would never stop for most strangers in need, often assuming the worst. the character growth, dude. i am Emotional.

It's so interesting seeing all the notes and stuff where people talk about the residents of Jackson actively helping and recruiting outsiders. Even in a conversation between Ellie and Dina, Dina talks about setting up traps for the infected and they discuss how to make it safe for humans who come across them, even people who never learned how to read. It's so cool seeing them be so considerate in such a dangerous world, and makes what happened to Joel all the more painful
@TQM Жыл бұрын
If Joel had continued on being that cold and jaded, he probably would've lived to an old age. But he would've been alone and bitter. It's because he met Ellie and grew to love her that he opened up and became more empathetic. More human. But that's also the reason why he died - taking care of Ellie meant he would sacrifice everything to keep her safe. Later in the game, Ellie finds an artifact that's supposed to be an excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit. I think this quote accurately captures Joel: "When you are Real, you don't mind being hurt". He became alive again thanks to Ellie, and he didn't mind sacrificing his life for hers.

ikr, (spoilers for those who haven’t played or seen the full play through yet) I was hoping he'd be the one to think of why Abby did it instead of shitting on her so much because in Abby's eyes, Joel is the bad guy but in our minds from previous games, he is the good guy. Now I'm not saying Joel deserved being killed like obviously not and when that scene happened I cried my eyes out and was angry at Abby like a lot of people. But then seeing that Joel killed Abby's father, we can sort of make that connection to how Ellie feels as she is going on her revenge mission against Abby for Joel. Abby may have wanted to find Joel and take her revenge against him - we don't know this because we never saw or heard what Abby had said or her thought process about who killed her father at the time. Maybe it was coincidence she ended up finding him and decided "hey, I actually still hold this grudge against Joel for killing my father so I'm going to kill him." I love to see people play this game and actually think why Abby took revenge against Joel. In our minds and Ellie's mind it is Joel = good, Abby = bad. In Abby's mind it is Joel=bad thus why she kills Joel. If it were to carry on and have Ellie kill Abby, this whole revenge thing would keep going on. It could've been Lev going for Ellie and then if he had succeeded maybe Dina going for Lev and by then Lev would have found people to be around and form a new faction and the revenge would never stop. In a post-apocalyptic world, people definitely need to unite and not be against each other, because this whole revenge thing would turn into the end of humanity or something lmao. Lol I totally went on a tangent but I appreciate that Julien actually looks deeper than "Abby killed Joel, I hate her forever, she had no reason to that stupid bitch"

Yeah, I might be in a very low percentage here but I never really empathized with everyone else when they were talking about their violent rage towards Abby and desire to see her dead-- I get it 100℅, it's kind of the point to put you in Ellie's shoes lol, but knowing that Abby was looking for someone specific and that she let Ellie and Tommy go, along with the fact that she was almost crying during that scene, I knew this wasn't some random act of violence. Even in the first game, Joel basically admitted to killing innocent people as a hunter for petty loot, so I never thought it undeserved despite how sad it made, and still makes, me. It's just an all-around dark world, and it's devastating watching them try to cope with it, but it's helped me a lot in regards to dealing with grief. It IS a difficult game to get through though, so if going forward Julien was more hesitant I'd get it, I think he'll still keep an open mind ;o

i'm a HUGE fan of the last of us series and i think a big part of that is identifying with ellie so much. i'm curious if others do too as people like me? It's really interesting from the perspective of a fan that grew up with ellie. I played the original game when i was her age and am now playing the second, once again, as her age in the current game now that it has come out. so wild that i can so easily put myself into her shoes in both games despite the time that it has taken for its release. i wonder if they realized this specific group who'd experiencing this when creating the series!
@dragonsrule202013 жыл бұрын
I'm the same! I didn't play the first game on its release, but I watched Let's Plays when I was about the same age as Ellie and fell in love. I related a lot to her, but she also had a lot of traits I admire, and to this day is my favorite character of all time. I even realized I was gay around that time, and Left Behind meant a lot to me. Then when part 2 was announced, I was on that like a starving dog, I was so excited and pre-ordered it and everything. It came out about two weeks after my 19th birthday actually, making me and Ellie the exact same age once more. Because I loved and projected on her in the past, Joel was definitely also like a father figure to me, so part 2 was perhaps a little /too/ immersive lmao, but man did I resonate a lot with it, and it's helped me deal with a lot. It's also very weird seeing Ellie all 'grown-up', because as someone her age I definitely don't feel like an adult yet, let alone equipped to deal with even a fraction of the things she goes through, and I don't think people who don't relate to her realize how hard all of this must be... It's definitely an interesting experience. I think you're right though, I was surprised after part 2 came out to see people saying that they didn't care about Ellie and wouldn't play the game without Joel. I'd always seen part 1 as being about Ellie at least as much as it was Joel. And as much as I love Joel, without Ellie he would've been another run of the mill edgy apocalypse dude, it was only through their relationship that he grew and revealed a lot of depth. But Ellie was only a kid then, so it makes sense to explore her growing up and the new challenges that come with that. It's honestly really interesting, and I know that there's still plenty of people outside of our demographic that empathize, but since I relate so deeply I think I'll be thinking about this game for my whole life :')

I don't know if I have it in me to watch this again, this game is so hard to watch. It's such a good story to take you along, but maaan is it rough.

the way that Julien says "I have a bad feeling about this dude, I don't thing they have good intentions with Joel." makes me laugh every time I watch it sounds like a dad worried about his daughter dating

I'd watched some game play of the second one without even knowing about the game. Watched through and saw the Joel scene and thought it was brutal. After watching Julien play through the first one, watching Joel the second time definitely made me die a little inside.

I wasn't trying to sit through all 6 1/2 hours of this first part in one day, but I don't think I can stop lol. Julien's reactions make me want to keep watching. I still have like four hours left too.

I'm sorry but if you didn't cry at Ellie singing take on me then you have no heart. I have that song on speed dial whenever I need a good cry. Ps it's hilarious that after Julien cried he smashed all the glasses to take the emotions out, relatable.

the game is honestly sorta a mess but i do rlly i love it, and watching julien play it has made me realize so many new little details i missed since ive only played it once , like joel’s death was obviously so awful but seeing the amount of letters and flowers people left around his house shows us that he was able to build a new life and so many people respected him which is cute
