Ben Lewis and Anna, best Phantom and Christine EVER
@CaptainIchabodRainy913 жыл бұрын
I never found it to ruin the end of the orignal because I think of them as TWO DIFFERENT shows. People REALLLY DO change A LOT in 10 YEARS!! I look back at myself just two years ago and how much I've changed. So people need to get over the fact that the Phantom, Christine, Raoul, Meg have changed! I don't find it all that shocking that what happened to Meg did. She was always in the shadows and I think it makes perfect sense. I argee with Provenzal.

I'm totally in love with Anna's performance in this.

@NutmegGiry Actually, she's a full lyric soprano. Christine's role has been written for a light lyric voice and it can be sang by full lyrics in the original- Sierra Boggess is a coloratura, though, so a coloratura would sing it better. Soubrettes are usually young sopranos- before their voices have matured a lot.

@NutmegGiry I think you might just be one of those people that enjoys fighting back at opposing people even if it isn't what you think. I think Anna is beautiful, maybe a bit young, but she is a lovely well-trained singer. And Ben has that eery quality in his voice that the Phantom needs. He comes from a very talented family of singers who are all well trained. He is very talented and will make a beautiful Phantom.

I like Ben Lewis's phantom much more in love never dies, despite being a huge fan of Ramin. in the Australian production, Ben as Phantom portrays emotions so well, especially the sad ones, which really sold it for me, I could totally relate everytime time Ben shed tears during the show, its really showmanship at its finest, I uds how he may not seem amazing here, but I assure you he will blow you away watching him live. this video does Ben no justice at all!

@NutmegGiry You do realise Australian audiences are DIFFERENT to Londoners and New Yorkers. Many Broadway hits have flopped here because we do not get them, same as many Australian hits do not translate to Broadway because New Yorkers do not get them (same with several Australian films - hits here, flops internationally) I don't think you could possibly gauge what the feelings are towards this show in Melbourne. Ticket sales are already beating expectations, and expectations were it wud be a hit

bullshit... Go watch his performance on stage... It's outstanding! I love the way he portraits the agony the phantom feels.

@animelover13579 I don't know about the London show, but in case you didn't realise NOTHING lasts 23 years in Australia. For a start we have the ability to move on and find new shows put on, and also collectively between all our major cities, we do not have even 30 Broadway theatres, let alone the critical mass to support a show that long. a population of 20 odd million people and 10 million annual tourists is not big enough to keep one show going for 20 years.

She sounds better than Sierra.

This show is more than likely going to be a hit here. Melbourne LOVES Phantom, it has played here 3 times. The first run was from 1990-3 (roughly 2 and a half years) and it had over 99% sell out - a record still not broken. less than 4 years later it returned to another sell out season, and then just in 2007 it ran for a sell out season again. This show is already selling tickets beyond (the high) expectations. This shwo may become a flop in Westend, but is well poised to be a sellout in OZ
@animelover1357913 жыл бұрын
@fatheranthony4pope I don't really follow Australian theatre so was unaware about that. But I was leaning more towards the London and New York shows. Sure, it may be a hit in Australia but as you say it will only be a few years at best. I doubt it will run very long on Broadway or West End. Not long enough to be a hit anyway
@nunderst13 жыл бұрын
I only think Ben isn't as good yet coz he hasn't had as much training and rehearsal time as Ramin did when we first heard him sing it, Ben will probably be great when LND opens.
@Zarenamena13 жыл бұрын
@hearmyfury I went to see LND in London and I think it is a production that deserves to go to Broadway. It is definitely not comparable to The Phantom of the Opera, but it is a great piece of theater, it has very good songs and the scenaries are great. I definitely think it deserves a chance.

@CommentingPhantomess It may be coming to Australia before Broadway but that isnt something new. Many shows (I am not saying all) have come to Australia before Broadway. There is a reason for this. Australian productions (although their own in their own right) are quite often used to tweak a show or Broadway - Mamma Mia I am pretty sure came here first - Billy Elliot DID come to Australia first. It came here because the talent is here

it's supposed to be 10 years after the original... (even though realistically it is 26)... They both look too young to play these developed characters... I feel bad for Australia To the poster who said "there a reduced number of the original fanatics obsessed about ruining everyone elses expectations about the show," we are allowed to have our opinions. the 'campy' original just celebrated its 23rd birthday on broadway. I doubt either the australian or london productions will make it that far.

@nunderst I agree. This seems to be their first [public] performance- of course they're gonna be a little overwhelmed. I'm sure they will grow into their roles :) People need to get off their high horses and stop comparing performers.

all you hater best shut your mouths! i saw this show today, the video doesn't even compare to the experience in the theatre. Ben and Anna's performances were amazingly perfect. Better then i have ever heard Sierra or Ramin sing. please remember that they aren't in context here they are not acting they aren't in costume and remember this is a video you can't judge until you see it live which only about a quarter of you have seen so stop hating, you probbly couldn't do this so just stop hating

Compare this song to Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, which actually plays a dual role about singing about Christine's father, and Phantom, and actually adheres to the plot and keeps the story moving... you get nothing. This girl sounds flat. The Phantom has an okay voice. They practically don't need a Raoul in this because, well, nobody cares about him.

@NutMegGiry Jesus, could you be any more harsh? Okay, you don't like the sequel. Okay, you don't like the performers. I don't either, but you don't see me lambasting them. I think they're both doing beautiful jobs, despite what they have to work with.

I like the girl playing Christine. However, I am not a fan of him as Phantom. He just...he isn't Ramin. Ramin's voice was exactly what I imagine the Phantom to sound like. And it was beautiful. I'm sure Ben's acting is great though, after all, he did get the part. I just feel like I can't enjoy him as much because I was spoiled with hearing Ramin as Phantom first. It could never be as good as Ramin.

I feel that although she has a lovely voice, you cant go from having an amazing soprano such as Sierra to having her, which frankly sounds like she hasnt had any sort of training and is underqualified for the role of Christine! She has a very beautiful voice, but I dont think she can pull off the singing aspect of the role. He has an amazing voice as well! but again .. underqualified.
