The whole "hate the sin, love the sinner" phrase is one example of what I believe is a "pretty" way to treat people with less dignity. To look me in the eyes and tell me glibly that you hate what I do but are willing to still love me comes off patronizing and does not in any way feel like an act of love. I'm not suggesting everyone must like all people's behaviors, but that phrase has an arrogant superiority to it that I believe is hurtful.

TRUTH from a Christian. Jesus doesn't tell us how to feel towards anyone, EXCEPT LOVE. Which he says to do for everyone. Any and all judgement belongs to God, and how anyone feels/reacts to/acknowledges that judgement is between the individual and God. No Christian who claims to follow Jesus Christ can ever pass judgement on anyone, for ANYTHING. Love is the only permitted Christian attitude towards another human, whether they be your mother, a gay neighbor, or Adolf Hitler.

Those who say that homosexuality is a man made belief, I say Supernatural beings are a man made belief and just because there are opposites of certain things does not mean some one created them with a design in mind. That is a man made belief as well. It assumes that gay people made the a choice, as if people in general make a conscious choice to be gay or straight a one point in their lives, people are attracted to what their biology tells them, why would they go against it? just because? for the heck of it? ridiculous, it also says that because "god" created man and woman for reproduction purposes and "god" is infallible there is no possible way he created homosexuals but since god does not exist there must be a different explanation.

It isnt that someone completely stops sinning when they become a Christian, but rather we move from practicing and enjoying sin to a place where we feel great conviction when we sin that causes us to want not to sin and therefore we begin to practice not sinning. That which we can never succeed in doing completely. PAUL said. I do the thing that I dont want to do and the thing that I want to do, I dont do. This is the struggle with our flesh( our self desires) that each of us as Christians face daily. But though we may fail, and we all still fall short, the Lord assures us that his grace is sufficient for us. It's the heart (the inner most desires) that change when we become true followers of Jesus Christ. And obedience to Him is key. That obedience is to Love the Lord God with all our heart, mind, spirit and strength, and to love one another as if they were us. We are commanded to esteem all others above our own selves. But to esteem God and His word above anything and anyone including ourselves.

A wise minister brought up this fact to me. One cannot judge another a sinner without acknowledging that the other has committed the sin. Thus it is impossible to love the sinner and hate the sin. Elissa Jordan No. God loves us.. even though we are sinners. (Romans 5:8). We may feel lust, greed, pride, revenge, or be liers.. But God still loves us and wants to save us.. But these feeling or actions are not good and we must fight against them, and ask for God's grace. Feeling attracted to people of the same sex is not in itself something sinful, since it may not be something a person chooses. But acting upon this feeling is wrong since our bodies were not created for same sex sex . Whatever our struggle, we need to take up our cross and trust in God's grace and love for us, even when it is hard.

Galatians 5:22-24 lists fruits of the spirit, among them love(Greek agape love specifically) and says “against such things there is no law”. This follows Galatians 3:28 which states “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Essentially negating the spiritual importance of gender. There are more or less six clobber passages in scripture(passages commonly cited to condemn Queer people) each of which have significant problems like the fact that none of them describe female homoeroticism and none ever address Queer relationships or love or how the story of Sodom is used to condemn Queer people because an attempted rape occurs in which the would be victims and perpetrators appear to be male. The major problem being that rape being bad is nota gender specific problem and the fact that the would-be victims were angels and had no human gender to speak of. Most anti-gay interpretations are based on little flaws in logic like that.

I have also found the "lifestyle" thing super cringy, it is either just about sex, or a blanket term to cover all the negative stereotypes they want without actually saying them. And the sinner vs sin debate is pointless. Can an action occur without the person/people doing them? Does sex or murder happen without the people doing them? Assuming their side to even be tenable, which I don't see, do actions get judged on judgement day, or people? Do actions go to heaven or hell for eternity, or do people?
@lynnbaker23367 ай бұрын
The description of homosexuality as a lifestyle is a blatant oversimplification of human sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. Such indoctrination of the collective societal psyche is paramount to both the formation and maintenence of the self validating delusion of heterosexuality possessing moral validity. The reason that we never hear the term " heterosexual lifestyle " is because there is no need to categorize heterosexuality with such descriptively inherent connotative oversimplification in order to subconsciously justify contempt and hatred through subjective ( and, therefore, contextually unfair and invalid) comparison. While such complex reality is certain to come with a threat to the subjectively comparative sense of moral superiority of many, such is the cost of growth demanded by truth.

Luke 6:37 - Judge not and ye shall not be judged. In your discussion of hating sin, you are really referring to hating the sin of other people. But it is not the sin of other people that we should be concerned with. We all must be concerned first and foremost with our own sin. Again in Luke 6:42 Jesus says, "(H)ow canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. If a person focuses on the sins of another person, he is really only putting off his own obligation to rid himself of his own sin. As we look around us, the world is filled up overflowing with sin and we are all saturated up to our ears in it. And this goes both for straight people and for homosexuals, for persecutors and persecuted of all types, the back and forth pointing fingers at the other, judging their sin, it is a big putting off of our own responsibility to ourselves. Jesus says in Mark 7:20 - "That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man." - And this goes for judgements we make upon other people. We are defiled by our own ignorance and it perpetuates our sin. So let us all look within and cast out our own sin before we say any word against another person.

The Bible clearly says to love what God loves, AND to HATE what God hates. And God does NOT love everyone. A couple (but not all) verses referring to this: Psalm 5:5 says God HATES all workers of iniquity. Psalm 11:5 says God’s soul HATES the wicked, and those that love violence. To hate with your soul is a pretty deep hatred. Numerous other verses speak of God abhorring nations, or cities. The definition of abhor is to regard with disgust or hatred. It doesn’t take a mastermind to see that God has hated people. Like when He drowned every single person on the earth, except 8. And when He burned up Sodom and Gomorrah. He only spared Lot and his family. And what about what He is going to do during the great tribulation? Does that sound like “ unconditional love”?

I don't think it's a good thing to tie your identity to what you do. I very much enjoy woodworking, and arranging flowers, and cooking a delicious breakfast. That doesn't mean that my person is defined as a cook or a woodworker or a florist at heart. It would be more accurate to say that I am a creative person, and those are examples of outlets of my creativity. How this might apply to this argument is that it's probably not especially helpful to say that you are gay in identity. Rather, you are a sexual being, and as a man, having sex with another man is simply an outlet you choose for that sexuality. In either case, what you do has nothing to do with identity, because that's simply not what identity is. Identity all about who you are on the inside. That identity then projects itself into what you do. Basically, identity isn't about what you do. It's about why you do those things.

I for one am not equivocal about the "Love the sinner, hate the sin" mantra. It is a scarcely concealed attempt to justify prejudice, plain and simple, so the attempt to drag "love" into it is patently dishonest. Homosexuality......the clue is in the name. Remove the sex and you have homouality, which I guess what the religiously inspired would prefer it to be. Not that it is any of their business anyway.

Well in this world people are free to do as they choose- nobody is disagreeing with that. The issue is this chap is trying to enter into the Christian world by badly debating points that he does not even understand

except for the part that the word "homosexual" is less than 200 years old, aka any Bible (a book written > 200 years ago) that contains that word (homosexual) is a sure bet inaccurate. Are you reading an inaccurate translation of the Bible? I'm not saying the Bible doesn't comment on Man on Man action, I'm saying that the inclusion of the word "homosexual" in any text claiming to be older than 200 years is both very deliberate (suggesting malignant intentions) and very shady to say the least.

The problem isnt anything but that you deny that the bible is the infallible word of God. You dont realize that someone is trying to save you (through the truth of the gospel) because they love you enough to tell you that truth rather than to say what you prefer to hear.

You say that people deny that the Bible is infallible but what you mean is that they deny that you and your interpretation are infallible.

John, you have philosophically convinced yourself that your immoral lifestyle is OK. And I admit you are very good at it. But it will not change anything when you stand in front of the Lord. There is no tricking God. I'm certain you will pick apart my statement as well but that still will not make your choices right. If you continue to live like this you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. You like simple explanations, I can see from listening to you. So there you are.

*you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.* I'd also have a hard time entering North Korea, so it's a good thing that I don't want to. :-)

While such complex reality is certain to come with a threat to the subjectively comparative sense of moral superiority of many, such is the cost of growth demanded by truth.

cont 1... man must leave his father and mother and must stay with his wife. The two of them will be LIKE ONE PERSON.” 6 So they are not two people any more, but THEY ARE ONE PERSON. Man must NOT separate what God has joined together”. We marry to resemble God. God is the union of masculinity and femininity in perfect harmony. He is our Heavenly Parent (Father and Mother). Homosexuality is not part of God. It is one of many consequences of the human fall and part of our fallen nature. (more...
