Anne the scriptures have been interpreted differently as they went through languages over years. The original text was different. The English language has changed over time. Also, I think you should pay attention to one of the things that John said. Whenever a heterosexual person does something horrible, we don’t think of it as reflecting on all heterosexual people, and it’s not fair to say your bad experiences with one gay person reflects on all of them. If someone’s a pervert, they’re going to be a pervert regardless of their sexual orientation. I don’t agree with straight people trying to make gay people straight just as I don’t approve of gay people trying to make straight people gay. And honestly this just drives home the point that we don’t chose our sexual orientation. If I can’t make you gay, then why is it fair to say you can make me straight? And just note that gay people aren’t attracted to everyone of the same gender. And if anything if they’re flirting with you you should be flattered that you’re attractive. The scriptures tell you to be kind to people, and that’s what’s important to me. I am not trying to be rude to you here either. If you’re offended by what I’m saying, then I apologize for that.
@annemac81754 жыл бұрын
@@danial804 \You need to go to the experts who teach the *grammer* of ancient languages and this is what I have done...you are twisting words in the scripture to suit your *sort of desires and ways* straight people also have the dilema of choosing whether or not to commit adultery or not and that sin is alongside the sodomy sin too, so it's not just your lot it's us too. Now regarding your interpretation of man and boy you need to provide us with the wording which states this , I will be waiting... Here is another information, why would a God make somebody gay then forbid them doing the pervert actions....NO God did not create Adam and Steve and as I say you can live your life as you please but just stay away from trying to say that God's OK with that, God loves everyone no matter but He hates sin and straight people won't be getting away with their sins either. I would give my blood to a gay to save his life, rescue him from a burning house fire, it's natural for us to help people in distress but ask me to go to a gay wedding...NO, the scripture says I would be as bad as the gay person's sin and appear to be supporting it. God gave you a conscience and a moral law written in your heart. If you feel guilt, or bad, there is a reason and it is to get away from this destructive behavior. Many homosexuals live a chaste life, because they went to hell in persisting in their ways. It is the guilt that makes homosexuals parade, give talks, the want to be accepted because everybody knows even he that is wrong. A child knows this. Many homosexuals say they knew from a very young age, their way was not normal. There is no way out of this but chastity.

It's been 5 years now since his passing, and I am still puzzled...and ANGRY. I'm angry that my dad allowed his gay sons to be so horrifically mistreated by our mother, knowing full good and well that he, too, had same-sex proclivities. He hooked up with many of my mom's friends, as well as some of their husbands, too. He also picked up hitchhikers and had sex with those guys, too. I actually remember one of those times, because after he picked up a hitchhiker one time, he left my brother and I in a cold car in the parking lot of a bar on a rainy, wet October afternoon while he went inside the bar with this guy and had a drink and oral sex in the restroom of that bar. I know this because he specifically mentioned that incident when he told her about his sexuality. So, yeah...I'm still a bit angry at being ostracized by my mother for being queer, and he stood by and allowed it.

No matter who they are, just knowing this kid is gay like me makes me fee like I am in some way a big brother. I'm sure when I'm a bit older I'll feel more like a father to them. I want to do everything I possibly can to protect gay kids, and this talk in some way helps me know why. Aside from how minorities are stuck together by their minority status, gay people as a group generally do not get to have their own kids. Our people can be born anywhere to anyone.

What is truly sad is that there are people in the comments who didn’t listen to a single word he said. They came here to bash on people who just want to be free to love, just because they don’t like the way we love. And if one of y’all replies to me with a bs religious argument, just know that I feel really sorry for you. You are in a belief system in which you will never allow yourself to question your holy book or your preacher (or to even use reasoning), because that would be a sin. I would like to say that when I realized that I am gay, I was disgusted and cried and prayed every night to become straight. Of course, it didn’t work, because a loving god would not create me to be this way just to condemn me for loving someone. I hope that you religious anti-gay people can find love and understanding in your hearts.

I do love how your arguments, like many's, are based off of ignorance and generalisations but disguise themselves as morality and fairness. They don't want to be "some sort of hero", they just want to be able to live without constantly fighting with themselves and living in self-hatred. Arguments like yours are a large reason as to why the suicide rates, hate crimes, discrimination etc. are so high even in a society where everyone deems themselves as having perfect moral judgement. People with strong opinions but don't have any facts or examples usually are just showing a lack of knowledge in regards to the topic at hand. Have a good day.

Brad It started as a riot. It continued as a protest. I’m sorry it’s not a family friendly, PG, fun day out. It’s about embracing who you are. Of course, people should be mindful there will be children, but at the end of the day it IS a protest. And people need to realise it’s not just a fun day out with glitter and rainbows, and they’re not suitable for children a lot of the time. Also that stuff isn’t absurdly common like people think, that’s on media distribution, but it’s not aimed at children and it won’t ruin society. People thought the internet would ruin society. People thought given women the vote would ruin society. What people should be doing is being less terrified and pessimistic. It’s a celebration of difference, and a protest. @sarcasticnotsad51554 жыл бұрын
@miri Homophobia isn’t always a direct hatred or exclusion of gay people. It’s a lot more subtle when you’re in a group of friends. It’s like, when a friend of yours who seems cool with you being gay will then make gay jokes and say “that’s so gay” when they really mean “that sucks”, or follow the idea of “hate the sin, not the sinner”. While they don’t really hate you as a person, they still believe that the way you are is inherently wrong. Do you know how many friends’ would introduce me as their “trans friend”, or would joke around by using the wrong name and pronouns, not realizing that it hurt and I _wasn’t_ laughing? I legit had a friend come up to me and say that her parents didn’t usually like trans people, but they were fine with me because I “didn’t talk about all the time”. And boy, that girl had moments all to herself, like asking why I needed to transition if I was just gonna be gay.
@BrightNeonBrilliancy4 жыл бұрын
My mother is transphobic and yet her sister's husband is fully transitioned. She went to their wedding. And then came home and joked about how she didn't know who to expect to be wearing the dress and how he's really just a 'gay woman' who likes pants instead of skirts. She's friendly with him and often uses him as a reason why she's 'not' transphobic. Fucked upworld, man.
@sarcasticnotsad51554 жыл бұрын
@BrightNeonBrilliancy Honestly, my mom would do the same thing. She _has_ said similar things, just maybe less... brash about it. Her whole thing was telling me that I didn’t look like a boy, I looked “like a butch”, so I should give up (even though I pass lol, as long as I say I’m 13 and not my actual age). She dropped that a while ago though, once it became apparent that I wasn’t just going to drop it. Also it hurt my feelings. Like a lot. The funny thing about her telling me that I “looked butch” and to “stop acting so butch”, is that one her friends _is a lesbian_ . As in, they’ve been friends since school. She got married this year, and we literally drive cross-country to go to the wedding (and then skipped bc my mom’s an asshole).

Religions have an issue about it because to them the bible says so, if you truly understand the bible it was written long after Jesus was walking the earth, it has been altered by human hand, it has been added to and passages removed, and the word homosexual was added to the bible in the 60's by a religion. Religion is man made, built on putting fear into people that a man in the sky is going to do something awful if you don't tow the line, in fact the truth is God is an energy/force of love which is present in all nature, (wild flowers, streams, rivers, trees, insects etc), the whole world and universe is made up of that force/energy. Religions/churches also make you believe Jesus had white skin with long blond hair, nothing could be further from the truth.

As a Catholic, it is because we believe God created man and women to become one flesh in marriage. God gave us our sexuality, God also condemned homosexuality. @@ryan20652 so where does the values at the very core of Catholicism stand with the prevalent proven homosexual child abuse by individuals that should be best placed to instill the the Catholic values. No matter what religion dictates to its followers being gay is NOT A CHOICE! So therefore one must ask is there something wrong with the genetics of the human species as homosexuality has been around forever, to coin a phrase. after all sex in reality is just about survival of the species. So yet again RELIGION, which is responsible for more trouble, deaths and hatred in the world is involved, Perhaps religions should focus on those issues, I mean you only have to look what's going on in the middle east...ALL IN THE NAME OF RELIGION! People are entitled to their beliefs if it provides them with what the need to be a fulfilled human being. I leave you with last thought....as I stated earlier, being gay is NOT A CHOICE, I certainly didn't chooses to be. @@ryan20652the complete void of moral and values that so many religious people have, makes your argument somewhat ludicrous.. it's like when a religious person do the things they complain, condemn and judge others for, they're even unfit candidates, but they still preach about stuff, and what others should or shouldn't do.. some say that judgement is God's work.. but if that was what they believed, why do they even think that they should (or be worthy to) take that role? the double standard adds even more, when they say you should love everyone and that it's wrong to pass judgement.. (i don't know if they don't realise it, or failing to recognise it, or if it's a brain worm of sort, that causes some "holier than" type of superiority complex.. but I know that I don't understand it..) even if that was your beliefs, what makes that into what's right or wrong? or that that even should be? when there's so much hypocrisy and double standards, that they even can trip themselves by it, it's mindboggling that they even think, that they are the ones that should be talking about moral and values, or what should be considered right and wrong .. and if the case actually was that they followed some godly teachings, they wouldn't pick and choose what that was.. but if you didn't understand what he said or talked about, well, you can always watch it again..

Never heard of this guy (I'm in the UK so perhaps understandable) but he said so much of what I've been thinking for years, although much better and more eloquent. I am not gay/lesbian, or anything like that, but I have worked with gay people and known plenty of gay people in the past. One woman I know has 4 daughters and 2 of them are gay, having children with their respective female partners - probably IVF but I've not asked, it's none of my business. My next door neighbour in 1971/72 was openly gay, at a guess in his 50s. My then husband (we were 19) often popped round to his house for a chat and he once remarked what a good looking guy my husband was. I hope John Corvino is still giving his lectures and in the same way as he does here, showing the absurdity of how some people think and contradict themselves.

@namelessrose38598 жыл бұрын
I have studied religions in the best Universities to tell you well enough "YOU" and most religious "FREAKS" don't know or have the slightest clue what "YOU" think you know. You read the bible in "Literal" form making "you" and people like you "very" dangerous religious/christian persons. The original scripts were not written in literal form which is why only the scribes, Rabbi's or priests read them. They were not made to the public because they were difficult to understand. They were written in poetic form. The bible was a very dangerous book then as it is even more dangerous today. Even more so today. In ancient times god was so subdivided by over 400 gods. Today-LMAO Christianity and other religions (non-Christians) have subdivided god even more. God is like an oak tree only with "NO" true name. Calling god -god is like calling a dog...... a dog. There are only 3 types of "Christians" in this world we live in today. 1) the "TRUE" Christian- found in every 1 out of 750,000 people. They "actually" live out their lives Christ like. And you don't need a bible to do that. Simple common sense instead of "STUPIDITY, GREED AND HATE"! In the bible when Christ spoke his last words on the cross or tree.. so many different stories: they were "LOVE EACH OTHER THE WAY I HAVE LOVED YOU"! There were "NO"exceptions or buts in the statement. Except for the KJV of the bible. Which is not even a bible It's a book of rules written by King James I and edited by Sir Francis Bacon. So technically Sir Francis Bacon wrote the KJV and also wrote and corrected Shakespeare's plays. King James, lousy man, lousy ruler like some of our US presidents who had to go to war who simply wanted nothing more than to leave a legacy behind. They left nothing more than chaos and corruption. Though I have to say the corruption began with the Egyptians which encouraged all religions thereafter. Every religion beginning with what you know "the Jewish Religion" was nothing more than a copy cat religion from the Egyptians. What people don't know is the Egyptians did not set religion itself. They also were a copy cat religion. Religion holds no grounds on homosexuality, morals, (especially morals) so don't go there with me. That indeed was a stupid remark. Man wrote the bible and it was most certainly "NOT" inspired by god. When you pick up your bible, also have a history book next to you and reference them against each other. You don't actually need a history book if you live say in America. Most people here have what are called "COMPUTERS" The Church (people and religion) have spilled more blood in the history of man kind than any other man known to man... In just a very short period of time. So the three types of Christians. 1) the TRUE Christian- found in every 1 out of 750,000 people. I've already explained that above. 2) Fundamentalists groups - (Terrorist groups) - Christians/Christianity and other forms of religious groups. Non the less, TERORISTS! They will kill at will, by the use of guns, or other forms of weaponry, burn you alive, drown you, drag you behind a truck for a few miles till your dead, etc. You don't need someone/terrorist from some other country to do your dirty work, it's all done by the hands of.. yes, people who claim to be Christians or very close to god. and 3) Conservative Christians/Christianity- and other form of Christian groups - also known as Christian TERRORISM. The conservative Christian will kill you very, very slowly. Not by they're own hands. They are a bit smarter. They are rarely caught or persecuted. They shame others (the one's they also do not care for, you know "HATE")into suicide. So both Christian and religious folk that fall under #'s2 and 3 both end up in the fiery pit they call or refer to as "HELL". Christians/Religious- all Terrorists/Cults. ( Christians preach that only GOD has the power to give life and to take it. Then tell me something smart ass.... What the fuck are Christians doing killing so fucking much? There are the 7 deadly sins according to the bible. Sins so dark that darken the soul there is no forgiveness for. Under the subdivision of one of those sins is: the killing/stripping/stealing of another person's soul that belongs to god. You fuckers do it all the time, everyday. After killing someone or shaming them into suicide, you may hide for a few days, then right back to your church buildings yelling, screaming your halleluiah's until you falsely fall into seizures on the floor. What fucking hypocrites. Worshiping and preying like the thieves you are. When someone takes a life by shaming them into suicide that is also a grave sin. god has no mercy on Christians or religious terrorist groups # 2-3. They are nothing more than Satan's hive workers. god has more mercy on the bullied and persecuted than the BULLY and the PERSECUTER!!!!!!! So, what type of Christian are you? Since you claim to know sooooooooooooooo much about religion and your bible?

Absolutely. It’s impossible. But, unfortunately that doesn’t seem to stop religious bigots from trying. And, because, for them, it’s dressed up as a faith issue, a “fear of a holy god” issue, they’re really not interested in the truth, or reasoning or even in morality in the genuine sense. It’s all about proving their kosher and authentic posture in relation to the doctrines and pronouncements of their religion. It’s a group identity game for them. This is why they become so I incensed when we present logical and moral arguments against them, because we are threatening their whole identity and worldview. To admit they’re wrong on this would feel like a kind of death. They defend their delusions with an irrational ferocity.

DericKE In what sense did you find it was great? I am suspicious when an audience such as this finds some of the speaker's quips hilarious and they laugh. Is it because he is telling them what they want to hear? Is it because it feels nice to be told that this sexual orientation is better than that one? Thus giving people a false sense of their own identity. It is all very well to go on about a sexual orientation being abhorrent but that is a superficial approach. As human being we all have to deal with our sexual urges and our orientation is irrelevant. Some might conclude that homosexual orientation is a recipe for misery while a heterosexual one is a recipe for happiness, fulfillment, etc. Yet, one could so easily turn that approach on its head. Mature people with no agenda would understand this. And maybe it is they who should be up their on the podium, saying what they have to say and without making people laugh every few minutes. Just incredible! I'm so lucky with my family and friends to be so understanding. Initially, my parents couldn't handle my sexuality. I found myself in an abusive relationship & that coloured their opinions even more. When that relationship finished they were so pleased for my safety Y freedom - then I met someone else and fell in love with him. When they realised how much in love we are their attitudes changed almost over night. My family adore my David. My Brother has another brother, my Mum loves him like another son, & my father loved him like nobody else. When Dad passed away, we took his ashes to scatter where he loved bird watching as a boy. On the way back down to where we were going to have lunch in a pub, Mum bumped into a group of her friends she hadn't seen for a while. They exchanged pleasantries then my Mum introduced us, my brother, then myself & then Dave. "This is Mark's partner, my other son". I will never forget that moment. Dave's family are the same with me. I don't think I could ever imagine how much love we're surrounded by! I just hope that younger people of our LGBTQ family are finding life easier than we did & their families are just as supportive of them as ours is.

As a 51 year old gay orphan, your words about our children not being born unto us, gave me a very different look at life in general. I'm at a point in my life, where I'm still questioning how and where I fit in, and what, if anything, am I going to leave behind? This has certainly given me a different focus. And, for that, I'm overwhelmingly grateful.
@elzoog Жыл бұрын
The issue of where you fit in is a real one. The only practical answer to that is, you fit in anywhere you are accepted. Go where you are treated best. As far as what you will leave behind, I wouldn't worry about it. Most people don't leave anything behind. Even if you have children, your children are likely to ignore whatever it is you want them to do or believe and then go on to do or believe whatever they want anyway. Probably most of your ancestors would be shocked by your lifestyle but the main question there is, do you really care about that? You have rejected their values, as you should! So what did they really "leave behind"?
@johnandrick64 Жыл бұрын
Your video title held me away for a few passes, John, as I'm in "the choir" and felt I knew the words to "the song". Just a year ago I had to say "adieu" to my loving partner of 54 years. We met in the seminary, destined to be Catholic missionary priests. Once we fell in love and knew that our vocations had to be outside the church, we felt that living as a couple in a residential neighbourhood would be our way of being the missionaries we hoped to be with a more subtle message of love for all, and an example to the "uninitiated"of love for one of the same sex.

How did I just find this. Absolutely beautiful. Not only did he systematically destroy every "argument" against how/why LGBT people are mistreated (I love his style of breaking apart words that are constantly thrown around but do we really even know what we mean or are saying?), and he provided a definition of "morality" that is truly wonderful -- Judge people -- but don't judge them for WHO they love, but WHETHER they love. I need to remember everything he said. *It's also quite comical to read comments from people who very obviously did not watch the video or take the time to evaluate anything he said, but just stick with their old, worn out fear of people who are a little different from them or that they don't understand.

God Allows UTurns to say we are anything but mistreated is pure ignorance. Clearly you haven’t heard that many countries in the world still have the death penalty for homosexuality. Or prison for life. Clearly you didn’t know that in over half of the 50 states in the U.S. gay people can be fired from their jobs, and the only reason needed would be because they are gay. A statistical study showed that around 1/3 of adults are mildly or very uncomfortable when seeing two men or two women out in public simply holding hands. There are still hate crimes against homosexuals expressing their affecting for each other in public. People call us freaks, they call us faggots, they tell us that we’re going to hell. They tell us no one will love us. That we won’t have a normal life. Kids are beaten for their sexual orientation. People don’t want transgender people to use the gender they identify with because people associate the lgbtq community with pedophilia (which is completely not true btw). Just because we are able to be who we are in some countries doesn’t mean we aren’t discriminated against because of that. Some doctors have refused to work on transgender patients. It’s harder for us to get insurance. There’s only one country in all of Asia that allows same sex marriage and that’s Taiwan. People are against children learning that gay people exist, even when it’s taught in very appropriate ways. As if me holding the hand of my partner is some inappropriate thing. Religious leaders have blamed gay people for Covid-19. Still think we’re anything but mistreated? I can give you more examples if you’re not convinced. If you only take away one thing from what I’ve just said then take away this: we are far from equality, and that’s what we will continue to fight for. Just because it’s legal for us to be ourselves doesn’t mean it’s accepted.
@danial8044 жыл бұрын
God Allows UTurns ok so you’re twisting what I said now to make me seem unreasonable. I don’t want to play that game with you. It won’t get anyone anywhere. Any type of protest can lead to anyone being killed, yes. But what I was talking about wasn’t protestors. I was talking about homosexuality in general in countries that have it where you can be put to death for it. Also I’m not sure what you mean by me promoting divisiveness. The definition of divisive is “tending to cause disagreement or hostility between people.” I understand some people disagree with equal rights which can cause conflict, but how is me acknowledging mistreatment causing that or even hostility? Ah yes, the agenda. You’ve got no idea what it even is I bet lol. You want to know what this ‘agenda’ you speak of is? Equal f*cking rights. How is that too much to ask for? How is that promoting hostility? It’s promoting tolerance. The opposite of what you described. I do agree that most of the countries do have other issues greater than just people being gay. But just because those countries have other problems doesn’t lessen the issue of people being murdered for their sexual orientation. Ok, so what I’m gathering from what you said at the end there is that you think sexual orientation is a choice. You think I want to be gay? False. I would love to be straight. I would love to be ‘normal.’ I would love to not have to deal with discrimination. I would love to have people accept me for me. I would love to not have to come out. So why don’t I just stay in the closet and marry a girl? Because I wouldn’t be able to love her. Because I wouldn’t be living my life to the fullest. Because I wouldn’t be able to be happy with a girl. Because I don’t want to deal with the weight of a huge lie on my chest all my life. I guess gay people can’t win with god. Lying is a sin. But so is being gay according to a book that has been mistranslated and changed many times. But if I suppress those feelings then I’d be lying to myself and everyone I know. So in the end, I’ll chose to be myself with the time I have on earth. And you’re right. Who I am is between me and god. Not you. Not anyone else. That’s why you should let me and anyone in the lgbtq community live their lives. Who they love doesn’t affect you in any way. If you think they’re going to hell, it isn’t your job to judge them. And yet so many people do. So many people try and discriminate against us. And that’s still legal in today’s world. And that is the issue. I don’t want to be gay. I didn’t chose to be gay. I didn’t ask for this. Yet here I am. I don’t want you to read this just to respond. I want you to read this to understand. Because discrimination is not ok. Hating someone for something they can’t control is not ok. Judging people you haven’t even met is not ok. Killing someone for who they love is not ok. And I’m not judging you here either. I hold nothing against you, except this one opinion you have.
@godallowsuturns6794 жыл бұрын
David Explorer you don’t have to live a lie and you shouldn’t have to sacrifice loving someone. God made it very simple: men and women, one for the other. You are complicating your own life by choosing to go with your feelings. You know you are sinning against God so I don’t have to convince you of anything. You already made your choice. God is so much more than you give Him credit for and it’s a shame you just follow the gay herd because it’s easier to go with your feelings, than it is to fight against them. If you think you can’t change, then you are underestimating the power of God. If you were meant to be gay, God would have provided a way for you to have intercourse without having to use a part of your body that is meant to excrete waste and He would’ve also provided a way for you to procreate. So, if you want to be gay is up to you. What I won’t allow you to do is to change the children’s school system by implementing new genders, pronouns and behavior. I don’t care how much support you get from Hollywood and the rest of society, at the core, you know you are not going about things the way you should. I don’t believe for a second you are hated or discriminated by the majority. Gay people are very common, treated well and live fine in my neighborhood. I don’t agree with their lifestyle but I don’t harass them either, however I will make my opinion known in any forum I choose to. You don’t have to like my opinion. Respect mine and I respect yours.

Only mortal, fallible and usually self-appointed men have been recorded making assertions that promote or abide by homophobia and misogyny. If you're talking about one of the prophets, including Mohammed, or one of the books of the Old Testament, New Testament or Quran, then you are quoting a judgmental blowhard from 1,400 to 4,400 years ago who does not have any divine or moral authority over anyone. More importantly, who in the world do you think YOU are, passing judgment, in a public venue, on the personhood I and millions of others were born into? Gay people exert no more control over innate desires that do heterosexuals. The arrogance of someone like you, I suppose presenting yourself as a Christian, to remark contemptuously on my non-volitional predilections is revolting and uncivil. If there is a god, I am created in that god's image. And since I grew up in a devoutly Catholic family, I will say confidently that your self-appointment here is unChristian, and an unwelcome invasion of a conversation to which you should have gracefully listened and learned from, not dared to correct or lecture into silence with some laughably corrupted version of morality. You have soiled the spirit of a town-hall conversation in a society that quite explicitly separates religion from government, and mandates religious parochial beliefs to refrain from using these platforms of freedom of expression, nurtured only in secular democracies, to evangelize. My father was a very religious Catholic man, and he despised attempts by any Catholic or self-anointed Christian to proselytize in secular fora, especially with an insolence that embarrasses all others of your faith. Maybe you should think about other things. Stop annoying people, get out of people's faces. Stop propagandizing. THAT is what's causing people to hate you: ACTIVISM. Leave the kids alone. Heteros have always been mum on sex to young children, (pervs excepted) My advise to you: Be MUM.
