The line “whispers of are you sure, never have I ever before”, I take that to mean they are making out and he’s asking her if she’s sure she wants to do the deed and this is her first time. I might be wrong but that’s what I thought when I heard it. Love your Taylor reactions!

It is my strong opinion that the solution to the “does Betty take James back” are in the 4th song on Folklore, Exile. I think that’s Betty and James talking in Exile.

Some guy pointed out that there's a point in all 3 songs, @ 2 mins 46 seconds I think it was, where the lyric in each song relates to each other. Wish I could remember what he said, but he was correct. So not only is she brilliant enough to write a love trilogy, she implanted lyrics that tie into each other at 2:46 exactly. I could be out a little with the exact times. But I did look into it at the time.

Cardigan, August, Betty [correct order]... those songs are a trilogy, about young love. Augustine, Betty and James are all in High School, Betty and James are sweethearts. The song Cardigan is sung by Betty...looking back after many years have passed. She remembers everything, but still lives how James makes her feel special, like his favorite "cardigan". Except when he chose 2, lost the one. The song, August is sung by Augustine. She has a crush on James. James spend the summer with her, but he still loves Betty. Austine's lyrics "you were never mine to lose" are sad, as she realizes he never loved her. The song, Betty, is sung by James. His asking Betty to forgave him for spending the summer with Augustine, asmthe rumors Betty heard from Inez are true. But, James is only 17, and he doesn't know anything, except he still loves Betty. I assumed she eventually forgave James, so many years later, as Betty sings Cardigan, they are still together!
