I feel sorry for both Chrissy and Jim because she genuinely loved him and all but his mother had already sunk her claws in psychologically into him from a young age and Jim is just a grown man on the outside but a little boy on the inside cuz the messed up shit his mom did to him and he didn't get therapy for it is part of the reason y he couldn't move on with Chrissy.
