I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that's laughs at my lovebirds when they fall like that. They're pretty graceful so it hardly happens but it's pretty funny when a bird is hanging out on your shoulder and they fall because they are sleepy and tumble down my chest and down my belly on my lap....that only happened once though he was like a feather wheel. His chirps said oh s**t, f**k I can't stop!

All I have is my tame budgies. A lovebird just randomly appeared in my yard today and seemed really tame, nearly let me touch him. I opened the window near the budgie's cage and it flew right in. The cage is huge and has a divider, so I put him in one of the divisions. It seems really chill and didn't even mind my hands in the cage when I was changing things to make it more comfortable for it. Now I am watching these videos to avoid making mistakes. (Wasn't planning on having more birds but he is such a cute little birb and there was no way I'd let it starve outside so I guess now I have one more bird)

I applaud your decision to keep him and to inform yourself on the particularities of this species. Lovebirds are quite different from budgies. I guess you might already know, but I would like to add that they can be very aggressive towards budgies, so they shouldn't be near each other unsupervized. That's what I would suggest.

I am pretty sure that the one with a redder forehead is the male lovebird, however that is the same bird that love to chew paper since about day 1, whereas the other one remains scared. The birds are SUPER close to one another, so I’m really hesitant on deeming one bird to be the female one and I need to know so I can feed her more from the cuttle bone before egg laying. Your video is great and enlightening! I have a doubt, two years ago a Hybrid Lovebird (green and orange) showed up at my house, he entered the Cockatiels cage and started to eat (he was hungry). Since then he has stayed with us and we love him, but unfortunately he is terrified of hands. He comes with us, climbs on our shoulders, loves to be around us, but is very scared of hands and fingers and always attacks when he has the opportunity. With great effort, we manage to slowly get him used to our skin, climbing shoulders and arms, but never in the hand and if you want to "catch" him, don't even think about it because he becomes an attacking machine. Is there any way to educate him so that he gets used to our hands? Thanks.

my peachface was hand raised by a local lady so she was very tame when I got her. Her momma thought he was a boy and so did I for a couple years. But the shredding was always there in hindsight. Then one day there was something in the cage, an egg, my boy was a girl! You have to be gentle with lovebirds even though they will bite you. My girl has her timeframe of coming out of cage every night between 7:30-8:30 and she comes to me, lays down on the crook of my arm, lays on warm computer and bites keys, takes a nap. They generally need a quiet home nobody yelling at their cages and making them stressed. Open the door and let them come to you to develop a relationship, and don't get mad when you get laid into and bitten because that WILL happen until you learn to better read their body language, and then even for no apparent reason at all. Introduce them to baths, they are habitual and also defend their cage as their territory but you can work around that. My girl is 16 1/2 years old and still in good shape although she can't fly as good as she used to and I just have to be in tune with that and return her to her cage if she is tired. Big personalities in little packages if you are observant and tolerant of bites no matter what, and enjoy animal's quirks and what they bring to your life. Otherwise you shouldn't have one.
