We can see that Miyako is not as introverted as some people say and that she knows how to smile, laugh and have fun. We can also see the obvious complicity with Midori.

Because Japanese and English are so different and highly idiomatic , when translating in either direction it can be very difficult to accurately capture the nuance of a speaker. MIDORI’s comment that in SYNYSTER GATES’s playing, 「ヤラシさがない」 (“yarashisa ga nai”), made Rolly blush. “Yarashii,” means “naughty,” but it typically carries a sexual connotation, which I think is why we are presented with the translation “vulgarity.” “Yarashisa ga nai” literally means “not naughty,” but here, in the context of MIDORI’s praise that GATE’s playing is highly technical, but its impact is to make you feel the music is very melodious, rather than impressing you with his chops, I would take it to mean, “he’s not showing off.” (Which is an idiomatic expression.)

The word in Japanese Midori uses that's rendered as "vulgarity" has various nuances. Here it has the sense of "inelegant" or "unpolished". Btw, Midori has said that her two favorite Japanese guitarists are Syu of Galneryus and Leda of Babymetal's Kami Band.

agreed. I think she is also referring to gratuitous displays of skill without musical direction. That fits with your point about "elegance".

Listening to MIDORI, MIYAO, and ASAMI speak, you can tell that they all are intelligent.

Hey RC, i believe the vulgarity comment was about his technique. Saying that when he plays live his technique is great and not vulgar, that being sloppy playing. Love these kind of videos, the one with Miyako is really cool too!

I think the "vulgarity" comment refers to guitarists who shred aimlessly without supporting the song, as opposed to those who play well-chosen lines that add to the song. It's about musical choices rather than sloppiness per se. So it's actually a more subtle point than simply being about attitude or technique. For me, two of the greatest technical guitarists in the world, Vai and Malmsteen, indulge in pointless displays of shredding that perfectly fit the term "vulgar". They can't seem to help themselves 🤣🤣

This is just my personal opinion - what Midori meant by "vulgarity" was perhaps shredding just for the sake of shredding without any coherence with the song being played.
