After I have just watched the video I can safely say that Kiko is the most overrated Megadeth guitarist of all time. He's not bad, but he missed some cool features that Marty's original solo had, which puts him in the league with Drover and Pitrelli. In comparison Broderick treated original solo with the most respect.
@vangildermichael1767 Жыл бұрын
@@stam1ska So true. What you are saying about Kiko. Kiko likes to "hang out" up in the "upper" octave. Marty and Broderick tease my ears with "deep" bends, and to lolly-gag around down in the "low" spaces. They both (Marty and Broderick) come up for air. With some catchy trills. But Kiko likes to take "root" up there. And Broderick found a way to take the solo, and make it his. To pour his "feels" in there. But, at the same time, he left enough of the original spirit so (a person) actually knows where they are. That is a very "fine line". And Broderick nailed it.

Marty. It’s a great solo, but what puts it on the next level is how marty makes it feel like it’s going off the rails. Great point about being yourself. Marty makes that very point in a number of interviews I've seen. When he started out as a guitarist he knew (at that time) he couldn't shred like many people in his local scene, so he focused on bringing something different by incorporating the eastern influences into his playing. For me, this really shows for me in the way Marty bends, as well as his phrasing, and some of the notes he chooses to emphasise. That feel is what makes his playing so great (I love his solo records, btw). IMO, Kiko is the only other player who sounds like he's locked-in to that feel. It's awesome that Marty plays on Kiko's latest solo record. One thing to consider when thinking about whether they play it like the record is social media. From the perspective of how exactly Marty plays the solo, everyone and their gran now has instant access to a million videos analysing the solo in minute detail. It feels like the solo has almost taken on a life of its own. While it's always been something that metal guitarists love, I don't think it was anything like the fervour of following that it has now. If Al or Glen were playing it now, maybe they would feel they had to be more true to the original.

Marty's version still sounded best to me... The next two were maybe a bit messy on a couple of parts, but Kiko's version sounded very effortless and kind of smooth. Like I'm sure he could play the same a lot faster than that. Unfortunately the sound quality was worst during his part. As far as writing goes, Marty is obviously the best. The others have written some good solos, but Marty's solos have have been legendary in his choice of modes and melodies. Even if Mustaine claimed that he always told Marty what to play. I guess the other players haven't been as good listeners as him! So that's 3-0 for Marty.

Yeah, Dave claimed that he sang the solos he wanted to Marty, but I find that extremely hard to believe. Assuming he isn't lying outright maybe he came up with the overall melody, but a lot of the runs that Marty plays are very unique and add a flavor that doesn't seem like Dave's style at all and seem 100% Marty. I've never heard Marty contradict Dave on this, but perhaps he's confident in knowing that the audience will use their ears and make up their own minds on that one.

I watched Marty play this front row at a club in Dallas, sat on his tour bus and also met Chargeee and watched him play this in his set still. And yep. Marty is king plain and simple. It elevated him from band member to 'the guy with the guitar that people are paying to just see him play' and that to me is true guitar god status.

Marty is the top one here. I mean, he wrote the solo and every live performance of that solo by him is amazing. About the others, I guess Al Pitrelli is the 'worst' one here, don't get me wrong, the guy is a very capable and amazing guitarrists but for that solo, he didn't show all his skills. Drover was very precise and it was a nice performance but some parts were a bit out of the feeling the solo has. Broderick is the most technical and precise here, but lacks the presence and feeling the solo has. I mean, the guy is a monster when doing fast lick, fast scales, sweetpicking, etc, etc, that man is awesome. Kiko has a realy amazing stage presence, and the guy has a really nice technique mixed with a really expressive way of play the guitar. He wasn't too precise but did a really awesome performance of that solo like closer to Marty. (Still I can't forgive him for changing the solo of Dread and Fugitive Mind everytime they play the song live).

Man, they really all did so well playing Marty's solo, loved this video, bravo. 👏 I have to say that Broderick's interpretation was very melodic and tasty, very technical and prescise, and I really enjoyed the way he ended it. Chris definitely played it closest to the album version, and he had my favorite take on the ending of the solo out of all of them except Marty. Kiko has a ton of feel and great stage presence, but he played a couple things that just went off the rails at the end of solo for me, but the fact he can do all that while having such a good time is ridiculous, I'm so glad he's in Megadeth. Not surprisingly though, the creator of the genius solo takes it for me. He really plays it with the most feel, and it's truly iconic watching Marty play it. He really wrote a legendary solo for this song. I really do think they all did a tremendous job playing the solo. Kiko is a killer musician but marty is incredible and I’ll always(!!!) have a soft spot for him

They all as good as each other . It’s definitely a fantastic guitar solo !

Broderick did it the best live. The album version that Marty put down can't ever be replicated.

To befair, even Marty doesn't play it like Marty anymore. And Kiko enjoys every second, it's delightful to watch and listen, everyone is so tense, ready for the moment, watching every note...and then kiko is worried about making it awesome for the fans.

As a former band mate of Chris Broderick, I'm a little biased. But, Marty invented it so he's the best. 2nd Kiko for playing it while showing great audience relationship. 3rd my man Chris. However any of these gentlemen playing this incredible solo should have everyone's respect. 🤘🔥🔥🔥🤘🙏💛

I give it to both Kiko and Marty. They are the only ones who get it all done. They are precise, complex, deliberate, controlled, and awesome... The other three are each lacking something... Buuuut, Kiko was a little more precise than Marty.... Buuuut*2, Marty looks cooler while doing it... and he wrote the song so his style jives better with the music (obviously).... Therefore, Marty AND Kiko... no one does Marty better than Marty, but Kiko does Marty pretty darn good....

kiko is literally a record playing, there is no mistake he is a robot, not just in the solo of tornado of souls, but in every song it's unbelievable

closest to Marty was Kiko in my opinion. I think he captured the spirit best.

Broderick from those clips. Best tone, and really gets the flow and timing right on for the breakout solo part coming after the last fugue part at 7:19.
Whatever someone’s opinion is, one thing is for sure that Dave Mustaine picks awesome guitarists.

I used to be an avid guitar player. The most difficult section by far us the part that comes after what Shred refers to as the really fast part. Chris and Marty were the only ones who could play that.
@uroboric2 жыл бұрын
Broderick and Kiko (and ofc marty) were the only ones playing it accurately. The other ones kinda improvised some parts. The sound of kikos clip wasn't the greatest but I think overall he wins because of his amazing stage presence and almost flawless playing

Kiko did not played exactly all of the notes however the sound was really bad on his version.

Marty and Chris for sure, but I have to say having that 7th string makes a difference.

Either Kiko or Marty. Marty plays it perfectly. Kiko does too but he has great stage presence.

Marty does it above all, because creativity to craft that solo is on another level. Kiko is close to second upon listening all those Angra albums, the way he crafts his solos are also melodic and nice.

My fave version its the Al Pitrelli one, I love how he put his style on the solo and didn't felt the necessity to play like the original just because the fans wanted. Ah ok, Glen also did the same thing but... Btw a thing that everybody's should know is that Marty magnificent solos on RIP was inspired on the solos by Chris Poland on the RIP demos, we just have 3 of these demos but Poland said on a interview that he recorded all the songs except for Hangar 18. I would love to see your analysis on Chris's solos on the demos and also a little comparison with Marty ones, I think that's very interesting.

Well let me think... Marty Friedman. But Kiko definately leaves everyone else eating dust (Period). I agree that Kiko has definately the best stage presence. P. S. Kiko is 50, but looks 40. Dave is 60 but looks dead... Probably, He finally woke Diana while arriving home drunk... Cheers! Beautiful your channel! I watch it all the time!

Marty is the best since he wrote it, but kiko has a great stage presence and soul in his playing.
@fabioforgione5282 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely prefer Chris...only in his performance you can hear every single note of the solo played with a terrific precision. He plays closest to the album version and that's great!
@Obi-WanKannabis Жыл бұрын
I prefer Marty because he plays it like a blues guitarist, really feeling all the notes he put there, and even if some timing or note is different it still fits just right cuz he plays it with feeling.

Mustaine said that Chris Poland wrote all the solos for Rust In Peace before he left and Freidman reinterpreted them on the record. He doesn't remember how much of the leads changed. It would be cool hear Poland's version too

I've known Broderick to be a robot. In terms of precision as you said for me it's hard to compare with anyone. I've been keeping track of him with Nevermore and this guy for me is on another level. I personally admire him a lot. However music is not only being precise. All solos were great but Marty and Kiko are simply delightful. I cannot distinguish which one I enjoyed more alongside with Chris's as well. Nice video!

Marty but Kiko was right there. They're all badasses though
@redwings0142 Жыл бұрын
Chris' rendition is my personal favorite. He probably has the least in terms of phrasing and playing with 'personality' but his technical skill and precision is so clean I'm willing to overlook it. Kiko and Marty would be a close 2nd and 3rd who make better use of phrasing.
