She doesn't pretend to be a know-it-all Filipino unlike most of our Kababayan who have gone abroad and and has become so pretentious. Trying to hide their past and where they come from. I just love listening to your mom's stories of the hard times she had in the Philippines. Its just so inspiring. I hope you can continue to teach Tom about our culture. All the best to you. I had a wonderful time watching you guys eating all those delicious authentic filipino food, while your mom talk about her childhood memories growing up back in her hometown in bisaya... especially where she used to sell merienda treats to her neighbors, yelling loud so everyone could hear her... I totally could relate to her story... Listening to your conversation, brings back so many wonderful childhood memories while growing up in my hometown of Zambales, Subic Bay in the Philippines. I also experienced bringing my own food in school for recess 'cause i don't have cash/money and i can't afford to buy anything in our canteen, my nanay/mom always prepared my baon... steamed rice and paksiw na isda wrapped in banana leaf, i also have nilagang itlog to go with it, or nilagang saging na saba or kamote... boiled banana or boiled sweet yam. I also learned how to do house chores such as cooking, cleaning the house early on through mom and my aunts, as well as from my lola/grandma/abuela... The hardest house chores for me back then was scrubbing the whole floors in our house using bunot or coconut husk and floor wax to scrub those floors... Then use walis tambo after to sweep the floor too. I also help nanay or tita to sell food... viands and snacks/merienda around town and diff. streets or kalye in our hometwon or the neighboring towns, walking all afternoon under the scorching heat of the sun wearing sombrero... a hat made out of coconut leaves... I was carrying the basket while my nanay hold the bilao over her head while shouting: "Bili na kayo mga suki!"... I love my 17 years living back in the Philippines before i migrated over here in the United States of America after i finished my high school back in Subic, Zambales, Philippines... It's a hard life due to poverty but rich in love and wonderful childhood memories... I wouldn't have it any other way... It's priceless!. Btw: I admired how you and the guy beside you could converse in tagalog, and you understanding your mom's native dialect which is "Visaya/Bisayan dialect".... That's super cool!..... My mom is also born and raised in a Visayan Town in the Philippines which called CATBALOGAN, SAMAR... their dialect there is: WARAY... and i could write and speak it too, my grandma and mom taught me how... and I am so grateful for it 'cause whenever i meet Bisayan People i can understand them and could converse with them in Waray, Cebuano and a little bit in Ilonggo too... I'm also mixed/ Bi-racial kid... My mom is Filipina/Visayan & my father is American Native Cherokee Indian. ..... Thank you for sharing this cool fun video with all of us, so much fun to watch it... I truly enjoyed ot very much!. Keep 'em coming now.... Much love... James :)

I can relate to mommy. Because I used to do that when I was a little kid. Wrapping my rice with ginamos if we don't have ulam then we ate it in top of the mango tree. So I would rather choose the banana wrapped rice with any kid of ulam with it rather than having a sandwich bun with katsup and ham. By the way I love your Nanay Kim. Katulad mo din sya na hindi maarte.
