Since Philippines is an agricultural country, we make food products depending on what is abundant in certain provinces. Ube (purple yam) and cassava are root crops, "saba" a type of banana are very popular produce across the country. We commonly use banana leaves for most of Filipino dessert aside of being good in holding up the rice or cassava together. It gives that very nice taste and fragrance. There are a lot of signature Filipino dishes that Jasmine is yet to try. But it very nice that she liked most of what you have her tasted. British accent but very Filipino 😍

a lot of people do not know how to eat suman....it is very easy and will not make you messy....just tear the banana leaf cover from top (halfing the top portion) down to the topmost part of the suman so that the leaf still holds it and the remaining part of the suman still covered with leaf. You can have the bite with it still covered by the leaf until to the last part..so there it won't be messy....take it from a bulakenyo...home of great suman and kakanin :)

The suman made from Cassava, which is a root crop, like yams. It's doesn't contain any rice in it ☺️ Ube is also a root crop like yams but much bigger and have different texture. It's called purple yam. Turon is best with Lanka or jackfruit, how it is traditionally made. Putting ube is just a modern twist on this dish.. 🤓
