On one hand I get it because some of this is her story but on the other hand scenes like her sister on the carousel a moment where you could tell she was embarrassed is weird. Also if Rue hadn’t taken the play well imagine what could have happened ? It’s literally the story of how she lost her dad and spiraled and she’s in the middle of relapse from a relapse she had days ago. She even included maddy crying and talking about her parents fighting all of those moments are so personal. Part of me gets it but the other part is like wow a lot of people could have reacted to that so wrong

Imo season 2 was more focused on showing the affects of rues drug use on the people around her. Her relationship with lexi fell apart and that led to lexi making her play which in a full circle way was the only way for rue to see herself in a different light and give her the hope she didn't have before. We also saw a ton more of what rues mom goes through, Gia as well. And I think Cassies storyline this season was also very interesting. She said in one episode that rue shouldn't get a pass because Cassie and lexi went through similar things that rue did yet Cassie has chosen to see herself as some kind of victim and refuses to face the consequences or see any consequences at all for her actions while lexi feels like an outcast/observer and rue has chosen to punish herself

@@gloomy.y So... Someone said Elliot was just a dumb teen, I responded saying you can be dumb and still do awful things to get what your dumb mind wants, and you responded with "He's a drug addict". Do you not see the problem with your speech? Having a reason for doing awful things doesn't excuse you from having done them, it just explains them. I'm judging Elliot based on what he did with the information he had. He uses drugs with Rue, but he is not high enough all the time to be incapable of taking care of Rue when she goes into cardiac arrest next to him and asks for help. He's not some helpless addict being controlled by his addiction, he's just a normal addict. And that was explained in the show. He knows Rue is lying to her girlfriend because her girlfriend doesn't wanna be involved with drugs or addicts, so the moment he realizes he has a chance of f*cking Jules, he *blows away the drugs* right after Rue used them. He told Jules the truth because *he* would feel guilty about f*cking someone he was actively lying to. All those things are awful, and they were also conscious decisions made by him while not high as a kite, just functionally high. Maybe you just want people to excuse him because you want people to excuse YOU. Just forgive yourself. What's done is done, what's gone is gone. You now know how you can get on drugs, so you have the motivation to not use them if you don't like how you get with them. If you regret what you did while on drugs, apologize (which was something Elliot didn't do at any point, might I add) and if someone does not forgive you, that's their call. You did your part.

I really don't understand the "ash sacrificed himself for fez " theory because in what world did him getting into a shoot out with the police and getting himself shot makes things better for fez? They still saw the knife in Fez's hand, fez is still going to jail, probably for even longer now because he killed an officer and even though it was ashtray who did it, they can definitely charge fez with being an accessory to that. Fez also grew up in the same lifestyle that ash did and you don't see him going around killing people all willy nilly. If anything, you would think growing up in that lifestyle would mean that he knows how stupid and pointless it would be to get into a shoot out with the police, and that he would be smarter and LESS impulsive (like fez). I think the honest truth is Sam didn't know how to end things, and he went for shock value rather than something that made sense. We shouldn't have to come up with these theories and assume things like "oh ash probably over heard fez and lexi and that's why he did it", which is something they never showed us, to make up for Sam's shitting writing.

I remember seeing a tweet about why Ash did what he did. In most if not all episodes Ash is in, he's not saying anything, he's just observing and listening. Which means the entire time Lexi and Fez are getting to know eachother, talking on the phone, talking about what they want in the future. And he decides he can't let Fez let that go after all he'd done for him. So Ash had the shoot out to try and save Fez from having a life sentence and losing the future he wanted.

I think he did it to prove to police he was CAPABLE of committing 3+ counts murder(as there were 5 cops and 3 previous victims)by shooting at them, so that when they saw what he did, they would realize how blood thirsty he was and wouldn't even consider Fez and Faye.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with Euphoria has been all of the Maddy stans. Don't get me wrong, I felt for her a fair amount last season and towards the end of this season. However, the overwhelming hate for Cassie when Maddy was literally okay with lying and putting someone in jail for something is unbelievable to me. Sure, Cassie's behavior isn't justified but she's a high schooler who fell for someone who gave her attention (important edit: her friend's abuser, which is inexcusable but I also don't recall how aware of it she was). Meanwhile, Maddy was a right out beech and conniving af until her sudden clarity. I don't think either of them should be idolized, but my god the hate has been vile.

This is the one. The first season was way more reality grounded. It had lots of metaphors, but kept them fewer and far between as well as they were shorter maybe? Ok so i liked this season but season 1 still better, i feel like the *each ep is about a character* is sooo much better cause you really get to understand more of why and how each character got there. Even tho they did like 2 or 3 eps like that in this season there was still room for many more, cause kat 4 exemple, had such a big arc last season and in this one she never got any screen time, and she is probably one of the most interesting characters we have so that kind of threw me off a bit. Another thing is i feel like the plot made way more sence how the storys came together... But one thing i'll say it was so mych better this season was rue's arc it was so good how they portraid addiction in ep 5, i loved lexi's arc as well but the rest just seamed so boring in a way. The astheric in S1 was so much better too i feel like the colours in S1 was so good and now when you think of euphoria you think purple nor yellow so yeah... loved the video as always and i love how you say more ur opinions now about how a scene is portraint and everything love you byee

I feel like the INSANE hype of season 1 euphoria put a lot of pressure on the creators. I can't help but assume Sam Levinson has a huge ego, there's no way to explain how they could go through with all the decisions they made for season 2. I don't get why they thought they should ruin a good thing by changing from digital to film, changing the formula of the characters and flow of dialogue, choosing shock value moments instead of choices that would be true to the character, etc. You have to think as the viewers of the show, and what they want to see. It just bothers me because if there were a writing team, I am sure they could have CONTINUED the story from season 1, and make Laurie the main plot line, with the dark edge it seems Sam wanted, without losing the special essence of the show. I have never felt so disappointed, more because this show was so well made. I didn't see it coming.

Okay, I have two thoughts, one about Lexi and one about Ashtray. I know you all love Lexi and I like her as a person for the most part but she had such an incredible God complex putting on this play. It is absolutely fine for her to share her traumatic experiences but she put in 4 unnecessary scenes that tell me she was hurt and unconsciously wanted to be petty and "hurt" others. 1. Exposing Maddy's family drama/ turmoil, 2. Nate's "coming out" scene (which I mostly have an issue with because to me, it seems like she would do this to anybody, Nate just happened to be the person because there hasn't been much proof that she really knows how abusive he is). 3. Cassie's carousel (Yes, she is responsible but what development did that add to her play besides to embarrass Cassie?) 4. Rue's speech at her dad's funeral. Honestly, it just seemed like Lexi was hurt and wanted to be petty by doing this play. And I know not to take it so seriously, it's just a show. I just wanted to say from another perspective for those praising her play. Because, be honest, if someone did this to you, being so invasive in your personal business and showing your whole school, would you be praising them? Now, as for Ashtray. I see why it's hard to understand him making this decision as he has been the "smart one" but think about his environment. He's grown up around dealing and violence. And granted, Fezco didn't end up that way but that shows how an unstable, toxic environment can lead to multiple different outcomes. Ash didn't see another logical way out of his situation and he did what he believed was best while also being in a high energy situation, therefore his judgment was heavily clouded. What it seems like is Ash's worst fear is losing Fezco, his older brother and he did whatever it took to protect him. Unfortunately, he slipped up and ended his life but I can understand where he was at. One of the best things about this show is that no one is 100% good or bad....except for Nate Jacobs. But seriously, they make the choices they do based on their environment. I don't think Lexi is a bad person but I think she made a questionable choice being invasive and displaying everyone's privacy. And I wonder if her hatred for Cassie not only comes with her relationship with her but also her relationship with her mother. From season 1, Suze always seemed to pay more attention to Cassie, everyone did. And maybe Lexi felt neglected and her feelings are 100% valid. I'm just unsure if airing everyone out in this way was the best idea. I'm glad Rue took from it what she did but I personally would be very upset if my best friend shared my dad's funeral speech in her play. I probably would never talk to her again.

It wasn't Nate's coming out scene it literally was a show on toxic masculinty in world and her school, it literally could have represented anyone at the school and their behavior. It makes no sense honesty and doesn’t make sense for lexis character either. She’s not careless or inconsiderate that she’d overlook the play’s effects. What have you are to remember is that lexis trauma is valid and she’s allowed to retell it. All she did was tell it and the things that happened. The carousel scene was completely unnecessary but aside from that she’s allowed to tell it since that’s how it happened, it’s literally her life, and if someone had a hand in how certain things went down it’s not demonizing them, just showing what they did. This is from her perspective, if Cassie seems bad is because that’s how she saw it.

Lexi is a character in a show that talks about people's relationships, their dynamics and the way their wrong life choices affect it all. Lexi isn't supposed to be flawless and perfect. The play came for her as a way to deal with the stuff that happened to her, show how her own relationships transformed through the years and obviously, write about her own feelings, which include envy, anxiety, sadness and yes, immaturity. She is still a teenager, so she is going to feel a mess of things and she has spent years on the backseat for Cassie and her accomplishments so that is also going to show in the play. I'm 25 but I've done and said plenty of things about my own sister and mother, two of the people who I love more than anything in the world, that I am ashamed and sorry for. That said, the way each character reacts to her play also says a lot. Rue finds healing because she sees someone being empathic towards her and seeing her more kindly than she sees herself, Maddy feels avenged because the play shows a bunch of toxic dynamics in her previous relationship with Nate and, like Trin said, Cassie can only focus on the bad or embarrassing sides because she has a lot of insecurity and is constantly worried about the love and acceptance of others.

I'm not a Cassie apologist but I kinda feel like she was a bit in her right to be mad about the play. Lexi didn't portray on any moment the good qualities about Cassie, maybe just when she let Martha stay on her house and sleep with her. And also when Lexi said that about being smart and also hot she was referring to herself if puberty did the same to her as to Cassie lol. And that carousel scene was definitely unnecessary and if something it could have made people recognize Cassie and realize who that character was if they hadn't realized before. Was Cassie being mean to Lexi when she got on that stage? Yes, but so was Lexi with her play.

Yess i also feel like if she is this nice inteligent character she would have wrote a play that is not the direct replay of her and other's lives but more so that it has similar themes and motive and that wouldn't be so obvious to make correlations with her life (like sam levison is making a show about addiction that he suffered from but not actualy the show being from his life)

cassie is the only person she exposed. the carousel was all that rlly took it too far. and to be fair, cassie literally left her family for nate, and called lexi a lot of fucked up shit before practically disowning her and suze. cassie doesnt really love lexi and hasnt the last couple episodes. why pull punches when your sister doesnt want to be in your life or your moms life anymore? cassie didnt even treat lexi like a person, she doesn't deserve to have her role in the play censored. maybe if she treated lex like a person lex would have run stuff by cass like she did to rue. but cass is not a friend, so fuck her feelings IMO. i like that lexi can vent somehow

I think when Fez told Ash he’d take the blame and go to jail, Ash’s fight or flight instincts activated, because he would be all alone without Fez and he didn’t want to go through that. I think that’s why he did why he did. I loved episode 5 the most, followed by the last two episodes of the season. There were some beautiful, artistic shots but I feel like plot-wise the series was a bit of a mess. I love your commentaries so thank you for covering Euphoria!

I think a lot of people watched this season because of the pandemic... not everyone had HBO max when season 1 was released, I feel like season 2 had a lot of high expectations, that's why it failed in a lot of aspects, what I mean is that the show was trying to be something different because of the target audience, it didn't showed many character development, just magicaly Rue get herself better, and the other characters were just having a little drama around them, also why incorporate a new character like Elliot? He was only a drama creator between Rue and Jewel, besides that he doesn't had any storyline. Everything was rushed and it didn't had any meaning whatsoever, for me Season 1 was very coherent, this season had many plotholes and the storylines didn't connect with eachother like in season 1. Other thing that I would like to add is that there were 2 love triangles 🥴 how annoying was that? Jewel-Rue-Elliot vs Cassie-Maddy-Nate, it felt really empty without those two storylines, Rue having a complete meltdown was the most boring thing until the plot made me belive that Rue was getting a real life lesson, honestly... Rue getting better without any consecuences for her actions was the least credible scene, she hurt many people along the way and everyone forgave her??? And Jules was like a bystander??? She didn't react as expected. Finally... I hope season 3 gets better, and show less nudity, even Jacob Elordi was annoyed by that. Sam Levinson doesn't have writting skills because this show is a lot darker in the original version
@beyzamellis2 жыл бұрын
Season 1 and Season 2 not really being connected was everyone's criticism and tbh I agree too. So many storylines, charachter arcs have been uncomplete but I'm trying to think positive thinking that maybe doing a superbowl in S3? Like all the arcs and storylines connecting and leading to a massive finale? Idk I would really enjoy it.

i think his screen time was justified in s1 bc he was involved in so many of the characters plots, like his relationship with maddy, catfishing jules and just generally making everyone miserable but he was in s2 wayyyyy too much for basically nothing. the only substantial things he did this season was get his dad arrested and make cassie insane

When you spoke about Antonin Artaud's book I was about to f*cking claw my eyes out, lmao, last year I wrote an essay on contemporary theatre and I used it A LOT. Anyway, my thoughts : Elliot's song was way too long as everyone said 😐 Lexi's play was really good, and I think it's beautiful how a lot of it was actually about her friendship with Rue. I loved how everyone but Nate and Cassie was having a wonderful time, it felt relaxing in a way. Ash's death broke me especially because he's a little brother and I can't imagine Fez's pain (+ the actor is such a cute kid, it's really difficult imagining him dead). Nate and his dad's interaction got me SO STRESSED omg, but tbh I thought it was good of Nate (and for him too) to tell the police, I think it's fair, and it will allow him to perhaps heal better (also my suspicions were confirmed with that weird scene from ep7, he indeed was afraid his dad would do to him what he saw on the tapes).
@addangel2 жыл бұрын
Lexi's play was entertaining, but she was wrong for it. It's one thing to portray you own experiences, and quite another to show your sister pleasuring herself on a carousel because she was on drugs, or your bff's letter to her dad that she read at his funeral (especially given that Rue to this day ONLY talks about her dad when she's high). Cassie is right when she says that Lexi hasn't lived and that's why she can afford to sit on her high horse and judge everyone else. The sad thing is that I don't think one is the hero and the other the villain. They are the reverse of the same coin, both affected by their dad leaving and their mother not caring much, only Cassie went out to seek love and affection wherever she could and Lexi became overly cautious and afraid of taking chances. Lexi saw Cassie constantly getting praised for her looks, and felt like she was living in her shadow, but we've seen how much all that conditioning has affected every single one of Cassie's relationships: from her nudes being spread throughout the school to every guy seeing her either as a trophy or an easy conquest. But what I hated about this season is that we're not allowed to feel bad for Cassie at all. She's suddenly the evil, completely irrational "slut" who went after her bff's ex. She's 2 dimensional. A caricature who suddenly has 0 internal life and 0 redeeming qualities.Even fucking Cal and Nate are portrayed more empathetically than her, and I blame that on having a male writer, incapable of seeing her humanity behind all the hurt. Because where's Cassie's nuance? Where is all that vulnerability we saw last season? Where is she dealing with her abortion, or showing any kind of emotion that isn't played for laughs? Suddenly she's only good for nude scenes and looking unhinged? Sam Levinson is wrong for this.

My first thought when Rue said to Lexi, "I don't know how to do that" was that I don't think she's talking about making something "pretty" or "great" out of pain/trauma but just "how do I feel again, how do I face it, how can I face feelings" and what Lexi did was kind of like, what it worked for her, writing about it, re-playing the experiences in the play, which is itself therapeutic. Compared to Rue who found "care" in drugs.

Please do a whole season wrap up !! I agreed with everything that you said. the fact that many people were disappointed with this finale because it didn’t have any shock values and moved kind of slow proves what you’ve said - a lot of people are not drawn to this series because of the deeper messages but rather because of the wtf moments aka Cassie and Maddie scenes . I actually LOVED this finale, it had many meaningful moments and left the door open for season 3 but also did kind of wrapped up the most important storyline in my opinion - rue’s. it sparked so much hope for her character and also the friendship of her and lexi - you couldn’t be more right about the things you said about them. I would love to hear more of your thoughts, you became my favorite reactor to this series ❤️

Loved your commentary on the Maddy and Cassie situation and how you didn't just cheer for the cat fight. It's been sad seeing how their story progressed and is definitely such a disservice to season one. Not only to Cassie's character, but the fact that, once again, there were zero repercussions for Nate the abuser. Of course Cassie deserved that shove just for treating Maddie that way, but what the fuck man. Nobody in the show cared about Nate physically assaulting Maddie as much as they cared about Cassie betraying her and that doesn't sit right with me at all.

I think many people are forgetting that a lot of writing isn't always done entirely by the writers of a show. A lot of the times writers would have their plan set and sometimes days before having to film, the network would make major changes that the writers have to figure their way through. It happens in MANY shows and unfortunately is usually the reason behind their downfall. I'm not going to put all the blame on Sam since I know this happens a lot and the patterns behind everything seems like another case of the network company jumping in to make changes. I do hope that next season is much smoother and is handled with grace in comparison to what this season was.

i really like the parallels & contrasts in the maddy/cassie on-stage fight and the scene at the carnival in season 1 when they were standing together in the maze of mirrors, looking at 100 reflections and dedicating to be the best versions of themselves. going from that mirrors scene at the carnival, all the way to the similar looking set design on the stage, the contrast in where they were in their friendship couldn't be more stark. the season 2 scene even has circus music going on in the background. kinda like they're the entertaining circus next to the deeper, darker rue-centric stuff. (not to say their issues aren't serious, etc.)

I fr hated season 2, it felt like a whole different show 🙄 anyways….. #1, I’ll always love cassie because of season 1. Almost every single character acted completely different in season 2, so nothing that happened this season even matters to me 💀 it’s like they’re in an alternate reality and I DON’T like it. #2, lexi’s play was NASTY. Like I get she wanted to share her story, but including the carousel scene into that story……. that was just a jab at cassie, and she did that purely to make her angry. Like there is no reason anyone can tell me for why she would’ve included that into the play, except to embarrass cassie and piss her off 🤷🏻 in conclusion: fuck season 2, season 1 is all that matters to me 😌

The writers also pushed a lot of characters to the side in season 2. In season 1, every character felt special and important. They each had enough screen time for the audience to understand their actions and motives throughout the season. But in season 2, it almost felt as though everything was too centered around one thing or another. Cassie and Nate were the center of attention far too often, and it got to a certain point where scenes between them sometimes felt redundant. While all of this was happening, Kat would appear on the screen once in a while and just be like, “oh wow, Ethan sucks.” and then disappear again. She’s just one example of a tucked away character, too. There overall wasn’t much balance, which most certainly lowered the quality of season 2.

Everything else Cassie has done ha been really shitty, but I really don't get people acting like she was fully wrong for being pissed about the way she was portrayed in the play and calling Lexi out on it? Like, yeah she embarrassed Lexi by calling her out on stage but... Lexi also literally did exactly that with her play? She literally wrote a scene with her own sister on the merry-go-round horse saying "I just like to fuck everything" or whatever. Like, I'm sorry? Whether you think Cassie deserves to have her feelings hurt or not (she does) I definitely don't think that was the way to do it and I don't think she was wrong for being pissed. If my sister wrote shit like that about me and put it on in front of the entire school, I'd never fucking forgive her. That is such a break of trust. Lexi was literally worried about this happening and she did it anyway. Like she also essentially outed Nate, which as much as I FUCKING HATE HIM, it's never okay to out someone.
@vivianaflowers54762 жыл бұрын
Sam levinson mentioned that a lot of the episode is also the audience’s Interpretations of the play, I doubt she actually put “I just love fucking everything“ especially if she was so adamant about not making Cassie mad. Lexi’s character isn’t stupid, I think that’s how Cassie interpreted it in a state of anger and mania, it’s still an embarrassing scene but I don’t think the specific lines “I just love fucking everything” was actually put in the play. But I agree, it was irrelevant for her to put, and it’s still very fucked up
