Okay, basically. 1. Grandma is weirdass cult queen 2. Grandma wanted his demon hubby to have human body 3. When Alex was born, Granny was very insistent to have Alex because of #2 4. Mom thought it was weird so Alex was kept from Granny 5. Granny was still insistent so when Charlie was born, Mom "gave" her to Granny 6. Whatever human soul was in Charlie's body was gone as an infant, already replaced by Paimon 7. Mom and Dad basically raised a demon king as their daughter 8. However, Charlie's body was not fit because it's of a girl's 9. When Charlie died, they had to have Alex experience all that shit so he would be "vulnerable" 10. Alex died from the jump and Paimon took over his body. Happy ending.

i assumed its was all a delusion and cult indoctrination the whole time because of how Annie mentioned her family’s history of schizophrenia and psychological issues 😭😭also since ants and bugs are a common hallucination, i thought Peter and Annie were going down into a cult the whole time.... i never even realised the demon was supposed to be real, i just assumed the old woman was predatory and manipulative. (she does several cult indoctrination tactics and tests the waters in the initial scene together outside the centre, which i assume is regular.. i thought Annie killed her husband)

Ari Aster is a genius horror film creator, his horror's have deep plots that immerse you and make for a better and actual story, unlike most 'jump scare' films. The moments just drive you to insanity as you watch them, the same way, and is far better than any monster reveal in, say, The Conjuring etc.
@Hulkzilla03 жыл бұрын
I don't think Aster's films should be compared to The Conjuring movies. The Conjuring movies, while horror movies, are ultimately all about good overcoming evil. There's a sense of hope that prevails through seemingly insurmountable evil. Aster's films are the opposite. They are made to break their audiences and leave nothing but despair.
@bobdiddlebock60183 жыл бұрын
Aster is a genius. He knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and make the audience involved. I had a hard time eating my popcorn during Midsommar because I felt like it wasn't the right time or place. All the plots seem plausible like it's insane, but it could happen. That's what's most unsettling. It's disturbing, it's horrific, and it's a rare sort of genius. But as crazy and interesting as the plots are, it's the characters that I love the most. They're all well-rounded and interesting. I could talk about his work for a long time. It's some of the best and yet worst horrors I've seen. Props to Aster.

I watched this movie with a friend of mine in the cinema of our university. We went in without even knowing it was a horror movie because a ticket to see a movie costs 2 euros so we go almost every tuesday. WE WERE LOOSING OUR MINDS! At one point I got so scared I abruptly grabbed his arm for comfort which scared him so much he screamed and slapped me across the face. I responded with a crying/laughing "Why???" which made the audience burst out into laughter. I hated the entire experience but I also loved it so much.
