Hi Adi It is a nice looking locomotive in a smart livery and a metal body is a good quality design. I do wonder how much is a new tool though because of the old loco to tender connection, have they just put new bodies on the old B17 chassis which is fair enough as that is pretty much how the prototype was upgraded. Because of that though the mechanism would have been already tooled so the high price is not so justified especially when compared to other manufacturers who also make similar sized loco's with diecast bodies at a much lower price. Good review as always, all the best Rob.

Hi I converted a Hornby tender drive B 17 to a B17 same name the transfers and name plate came from fox transfers . streamline using a kit I purchased on eBay. I can’t remember the companies name you have to do a lot of work cleaning up attend a body in the local body. It was like a plastic material on completion. It looks okay runs okay baying the B17 of eBay cost me £40 then the body kit cost me £50 plus paint possibly £130 pound and your time doing it was it worth it I think so because he’s locos for a one off there LNER this new model from Hornby looks great. Thanks for sharing this. Many thanks, Colin.

Oh wow, thanks mate for this review, ive been intrigued ever since I saw hornby announce them! I tell you what, that livery is stunning on this loco - the shrunken a4 look is slightly strange but Ive warmed to it! Bit steeping terms of price, but a lovely loco nonetheless

It looks like an A4 with the back end sawed off! That aside, it reminds me of what the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad did in the 1930's. First, they received a class of four beautiful, streamlined 4-4-2 class A-1 passenger locomotives. The railroad then took a bunch of old 4-6-0 locomotives and put a streamlined shroud over them that looked like the ones on the A-1 class. Later the railroad received a class of streamlined 4-6-4 class F-7 passenger locomotives, and the same thing with a bunch of old 4-6-2 locomotives.

Hi Stuart I hope you are well Yes i know what you mean Lner w1 streamlined looks like a a4 on steroids Ive read that gresley had idea or plans to streamlined a gnr Atlantic (4-4-2) which would be odd Thank you for the information Thank you for the kind words and watching and commenting Keep safe ARP

Hi Adi. I much appreciated this review. Being an admirer of all things Gresely and now that I live in East Anglia, I found this very interesting. The LNER livered version includes the side balances, so rally does look like a squashed A4. Very eyecatching. I think the price is a but steep, and since they're niche market models, I'm sure they won't be left on the shelves long enough to be discounted significantly, which means I'll probably miss out. So I'll just have to watch your review regularly from time to time instead!

The streamline B17 was a fun loco - the cash strapped LNER wanted all the publicity it could get for its services - They wanted to use the A4s on the former Great Eastern Main line but the Turntables were too small so two B17s were selected to cosplay as A4s - the service was no faster and they were interchangeable with standard B17s for timetabling. I liked this loco so much that 30 years ago I did a cut and shut job on a Hornby B17 with an A4 body - I was quite proud of it even if no one else could work out what it was meant to be.

Hi Adi, I have been wondering if you have ever considered using a track underlay like cork or foam ? This would reduce the amount of sound/ noise and also improve your running performance, i have used the cork underlay for both my gauges and found that it makes a great difference in the running performance of my locomotives. Regards from Ron ✔️😃👍🚂

Hi Adi, Nice objective review of this - for me - rather strange looking steam locomotive. Looks a bit like a Bull dog with the short chassis compared to more balanced streamline of the 'Mallard'. But that's just me... Succes & greetings, Filip

Hi Adi, I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciate your review of this new Hornby locomotive. Many thanks for your reply. Your review was excellent. I just don't like the rubbish value gear hornby now produced, they make an excellent job of new 9f, black 5 and BR class 2. Shame they can not do with all model's. I purchased the new P2 Lord President beautiful model apart from eccentric rod doesn't move at all...expensive model for none moving parts. Keep up good work.
