Sounds like this whole family was trash. Parents with no jobs slept all day. Mother who got pregnant by a different man every few years. Making a teenager take care of a baby and share a room with the baby so that he would be responsible when the baby woke up in the night. Then Covid happened and your stuck in this house. Being with Buster was his only escape and then they stopped that from happening. He should have ran away but the guilt of worrying who would care for his little brother probably kept him there. This kid was destined to fail. Even if he hadn't let the hate and stress take him over and did what he had done if he made it to 18 (if he didnt stay 15 more years because of his little brother) and went off on his own or with Rebecca he still would have had so many issues with his emotions unable to keep a job and make friends and so many other basic skills that parents are suppose to teach there kids but instead he got stuck with a mom whose priority was whatever guy warmed her bed. I am definitely victim shaming but this kid was a victim too his world was so small and dark he had no idea of the big real world out there didn't know that if he had just kept playing baby sitter and never touched the loaded easy to access gun in the house that this all could have been just a memory of a bad childhood in the past. Rant over.

True. A lot of people are disrespectful to their family members and would never treat strangers as bad as they treat their family. I have a cousin who was verbally abusive towards me and I asked her one day why she talked to me so mean and she said because I'm family and she can. She said I just have to deal with it because that's what family does. I say "was verbally abusive" because I finally had to go No Contact with her because the relationship became very toxic. I’ve been in law enforcement for 25 years and a retired military police officer before that. Suffice to say I’ve seen things I can never unsee…things that give me nightmares and things that will stay with me through my last breath. But that being said, the magnitude of this crime and the details of it are so far beyond anything I’ve ever seen. What is also glaringly apparent to me is that this kid has some serious issues, both emotionally and mentally. While he belongs behind bars or in a mental facility for the remainder of his life I think its also fair to say that someone dropped the ball with this kid. Somewhere…somehow…someone didn’t get him the help he so desperately needed. Because of that innocent lives we’re needlessly taken. His own included.

Your lengthy law enforcement and military police service career are impressive, Congratulations! 😊 My son is currently in the police academy but since being there, he's not sure if he wants to stay. The horrifying police scenes he's hearing from officers are making him doubt that this is really what he wants to do with his life. He says he doesn't think he can be empathetic over sympathetic and doesn't want to have to make a split second decision on someone's life. I love my son and do support whatever he decides to do but at the same time I'm disappointed because of all the time and money he put into this as well as the police department into him. I've been trying to talk him into seeing it through but he just says I don't understand. He says as soon as he can find a regular job he wants, he's out.

A side note regarding his development: I am a Special Education teacher for 5th and 6th graders, and can say with certainty that when children have a speech disorder (in his case Rhotacism) it reduces their intelligibility and they are often seen as less mature than their classmates. They are often bullied relentlessly, develop severe insecurities and anxiety, and many try to avoid speaking at all. It can even cause far-reaching impacts later in life. Of course there is no excuse in the world for what he did, but his speech disorder could very well have been more fuel for the fire. Please friends, if your child has any type of speech difficulty, get them in speech therapy. It is free in public school. Therapy does wonders for a child’s confidence, and it increases academic performance and social interactions.

Yeah, it bugs me that people ignore the life monsters lead before crossing lines. Truly unhinged people who are _born_ with no remorse are vanishingly rare... instead more people become corrupted under the social pressure of not fitting in and feeling like a failure. Thinking crimes like these don't come at the end of years of psychological trauma is akin to thinking a tornado could strike without a supercell being present... yeah it could happen, but it _doesn't_ happen. I don't think society at large necessarily is reaping just deserts, but we don't pay enough attention to the needs of bullied children. All anyone ever does is pay lip service and say "this is bad" instead of saying, "you're creating a school shooter dude, fucking cool it."

I’m thankful for anyone doing interrogations that includes captions. Sometimes I’m able to pick up on things that were (inaudible) to the poster. In cases like this, where someone has a speech issue, or a seriously thick accent, it’s very helpful. It keeps you from the frustration of backing it up 3 times to try to figure it out. I just hope that kids like him receive speech therapy. My son needs speech and a little behavioral therapy because he’s autistic.
@WildWombats Жыл бұрын
I had a speech impediment with R's my entire life until high school. I was regularly going to speech class from the moment I could speak essentially and stayed in there, all my issues over time got corrected except the R's, which took me until high school to finally correct. I imagine I probably pronounced my words similarly to how the suspect does, but his comes across as even worse than mine was. Keep at it! Even when you feel frustrated and like it's going nowhere. Hang in there! I didn't fully conquer my R's until the first year of high school, with basically daily help since I could speak.

Rebecca got off too easy. She didn't just egg him on to kill, she WATCHED him do it. Then she was his somewhat defense. Hid him for days like nothing happened. Lied to police. 10 years is far too lenient. I get her testimony helped piece it together, but she seems like a danger to society!
@swingeasy987 Жыл бұрын
She is no doubt a sinister player in this crime, a true femme fatale despite her young age. Her manipulations of Smith were chilling, almost casting her as the mastermind of the crime and him as an impressionable, feckless, and confused young man who acted out the crime in the manner she convinced him to. That she egged him on and then WATCHED it on a live stream further backs up your assertions. The only thing I can say though is that in America, due process is understood to be a God given right, and with the key component of due process, Presumed Innocence, along with a minor being charged with multiple homicide, there are plenty of tools available to skilled defense attorneys which could derail a proper conviction for the one who pulled the trigger. The plea deal she accepted turned her against Smith, and her testimony was what the prosecutor clearly felt was needed to ensure that clearly sick, homicidal kook Smith would never be able to walk free. They clearly felt that Smith locked up for life and Rebecca for 10 years was a better end result than both locked up for 20 years, each with the possibility of parole thereafter (or, something to that effect, I'm not sure what it would have been, but it was clearly less desirable for society than what they ended up with). But yeah, I agree, Rebecca is one sinister little bitch. Kids these days!

I will say that I have a horrifically abused childhood that DID just change VERY quickly. My mom went from a sweet person that I trusted completely to a nightmare person right about the time I turned 12. It was a complete change that just started one day and hasn’t ever stopped. I’m in my 40’s now, and she is still a crazy person that treats me worse than dirt. I only tolerate it for the sake of my brother. It absolutely can just start one day out of the blue, because it did for me.

Sorry for your experience. Maybe it had something to do with you starting puberty or a comment a guy made about you (innocent or otherwise, such as how you were blossoming or becoming pretty) that she was told/overheard that triggered envy? Or maybe it was just an unfortunate mental health break that has since not been adequately addressed? Either way, it's a shame. The content creator mentions sudden abuse is not typical (he didn't say it doesn't happen) so it must have been particularly jarring for you. I truly hope you are doing much better now.

Something about the parents sleeping all day and staying up all night completely tracks with me. I know a lot of people who switched to this schedule during lockdown, mainly due to depression. Ironically less daytime sun hours Leeds to more depression. I do believe that the care taking of the baby fell on him. Especially when the eldest child shared a room with him and the middle child has his own room, that’s not typical. None of that is obviously an excuse for murder at all but it sounds like there was disfunction happening. I doubt the abuse but neglect is definitely possible. My mother would lie to her entire family about how great my brother was doing. Meanwhile he was deep into a meth and LSD addiction, lost his wife, house, had been arrested for indecent exposure and then a month later tried to burn my parents alive in there own house. I didn’t find out until they called me to come get the pets and I pulled up on the scene.

These detectives are top tier. Just great at their job. They built rapport so flawlessly, shared a meal with him. Breaking bread with someone makes you feel more connected to them. They're also doing a great job of establishing a baseline for him. When hes going through his first 15 minutes of questions, those are answers that are easy to give & be honest about. They're seeing his body language when hes being honest, so when he starts straying from the truth, they can pick up on the shift immediately. Then the tactic they used with telling him calmly, your girlfriends already flipped on you, you watch crime shows so you know a little bit about our process as well as what we're capable of when it comes to evidence collection, saying we have evidence that this went a certain way & we know you weren't honest. Honestly just A+ for these two. Ive seen so many awful investigations, ive listened to Derrick Lavasseur go into depth on interview process as well as tactics & these guys hit every nail on the head so calmly & really made him feel safe with them. Its really telling that when asked his Snapchat name, he pretended not to know it then said oh its something like demon child. I would say that assessment of himself when he made that account was correct. It takes a demon to do what he did & have no remorse. He also showed signs he was lying when talking about Facebook, trying to establish a narrative that he had been hacked & someone attempted to blackmail him. I love it when suspects think they have it all figured out, yet we get to watch their house of cards crumble & see their energy shift knowing they're being closed in on. This case is sickening. This person is sickening. He deserves the death penalty & his girlfriend deserved life. You can't change my mind about that.

Edit: I feel like y'all are missing the point of my comment. And maybe I just worded it poorly. I do not, in any way, support his behavior. He is 10000% guilty, that is for certain and he can rot in prison. My issue was with the narrator (I enjoy his videos, so again, do not misconstrue this). He said there were no reports to CPS, so they automatically were like, "There is no merit to his statement"...I was kidnapped at 10 by my father, abused for 5 years by his and my stepmonsters hands, came to school covered in bruises and in dirty clothes and filthy myself. Despite all this, there was no report to CPS until I was 15. Lack of reports does not mean lack of abuse. This kid is a guilty SOB, no doubt about it. My issue was not with that, it was with the "assumption" of lies by the narrator and/or police. I hope this clears this up for the people who assume what they want from my message, just like the narrator assumed with the "lack of abuse". It always bugs me when people say "there were no reports to CPS regarding abuse" like...I was abused for YEARS and you want to know how many reports there were? One. Sure, he's killed them. But CPS is a broken system, and gaslighting abusers will convince you that all CPS will do is separate siblings. Lack of reports does not mean lack of abuse.

I think in this case it wasn't just that there were no reports, there was nothing from school, friends, no pictures of bruises, etc; it's very suspicious when the girlfriend comes in with that first thing, it really looks like an excuse. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't; but that's the job unfortunately. In the end they found no evidence of abuse whatsoever, so it's a far stretch to say they should have believed him in the first place. That being said, I'm sorry for the experiences you had to go through.

Same. I was emotionally and sexually abused growing up. They normalized the mental/emotional abuse so I know it hurt but thought I was just being sensitive and those sexually abusing me put so much fear into me that I couldn't turn anywhere without fear. There were never any reports from anyone and bruises/physical damage was treated as sports injuries. Since I refused to let the doctors or anyone exam "down there" it was only thought that I had frequent UTIs and Crohns. People only found out about some things when I broke down and tried to kill myself at home at 17 but the self-harm behavior up until then was chalked up to my sister dying when I was 11. No reports or concerns from the school/people around/church/coaches/friends doesn't mean it didn't happen. Some people are good at hiding things, I was a pro at it and I never tried to get help because I was abused from so young for so long it felt hopeless to try and reach out "No one will ever believe you. This is discipline for YOUR behavior. Why are you so sensitive, what are you a baby?" And so many more ways it was ingrained in me that it was all my fault....

I think you may be my favorite reporter now. I love the fact you linked the unedited, unnarrated video to this one. It helps to let people form their own opnion or see things they may not neccessarily see while there is a person speaking over it. Don't get me wrong, your reporting is grade A! But usually after these videos I always go looking for the original anyway and you made it so I didn't have to go searching. That's super helpful. Thank you!

I had a friend in Middle School whose both parents abused him horribly something he talked about occasionally. My family had moved away over the summer to a different school system and I hadn't heard from him in several months. My grandmother at the time worked in a legal office and their office was handling a case concerning my friend and his family which turned out to be that my friend had shot both of his parents systematically in the head. Grandma had never met Chuck but she was aware of him and passed the story on to me along with a message from him through his lawyer who my grandmother worked for. Some of the details I found out later from a newspaper article or from talking to his brother who was older and lived out of town and had also been abused. His dad was sitting in his office with his back to the door when Chuck walked in on him and shot him in the back of the head. His mom heard the gunshot and ran for the garage which he chased her down and shot her in the back of the head to as she was trying to get into their station wagon and flea. The difference here is that Chuck sat down on the porch steps waiting for the cops and put his hands up when they pulled up and he's the one that called 911. He turned himself in and got tried as an adult at age 15 but he ended up in juvie and then later transferred to an adult facility. I think he got 15 years but I stopped keeping track as to how many actual years he ended up serving. During the trial or not long after, I found out from his brother that his dad was involved with the Mafia and had been in prison himself for shooting somebody. The funny thing is they lived in an upper-middle-class home and seemed completely nice and at least in front of me treated Chuck real well. Anyway I listen to this guy and can't understand how you can be so full of s*** and remorseless. His story would have held together had he not decided to fluff the details or slices baby brother's throat. I think Society was lucky to get this one off the streets as early as they did because clearly there's some kind of sociopathy or psychopathy going on. Because of the experience with my friend Chuck I would have completely bought his story about blacking out and shooting them in a rage had it not been for slicing the baby brother's throat. My friend wasn't a psychopath he truly was abused and snapped but then he sat down and took the penalty because of remorse and guilt which obviously this kid has none. I truly believe my friend Chuck loves his parents and that kind of cognitive dissonance and somebody just wanting it to stop and not knowing how to not being able to get away from it and an unlocked cabinet of guns in the house ended up being a really bad formula for disaster. One of the main differences here is that when Chuck and his brother were a lot younger they had spent some time in a foster home because of abuse. The authorities knew this and I think that's why they were somewhat easy on him in court and he might have actually gotten less time had he not been so adamant that he wanted to take full responsibility and was ashamed he wasn't able to kill himself after doing it.

@@JustInterrogations I just found this video/your channel. Typically I'd prefer skipping through a creator's commentary, but yours was well done. I'm hard of hearing & rely heavily on reading lips; which you can't do with most interrogation vids as they're usually blurry. I really appreciate your consideration for those like myself. Normally after rewinding so many times, I just close the app & go to a different streaming service with accurate subtitles. Thank you for you dedication to inclusivity. How can a young man this age have such a severe speech impediment when speech therapy is available in public schools? What sort of family does not attempt to help him correct it? This is neglect over a long period of time, necessarily at least since he was a toddler. Suggestive of severe dysfunction in this family over time.
@Molly-km8jq Жыл бұрын
(This is my personal opinion)I think he was definitely telling the truth when he said Mom and Dan would sleep during the day and they stay up all night... And not to mention he states continuously throughout the interview that he was the one who took care of Jameson. That Jameson even called him "daddy" ...I believe this. I think the parents were neglectful toward the kids and that built up a lot of anger in Gavin and he resented the fact that he was basically raising Jameson when both mom and Dan were home not working. I think he slit the babies throat possibly taking his frustration at his parents out on him in that moment. Very possible the baby was a huge burden to him, especially at his age....more than likely he wanted to spend most of his time away from home with his girlfriend (as teens do) and he was not getting the freedom to do so with him always being needed as the family babysitter. There was no physical abuse or sexual abuse...just a neglected teenager who was bitter with his parents. It's absolutely disgusting and inexcusable what he chose to do....I'm so glad these officers could see right through all his lies.💯

call me red pilled, but you really only hear about school shooting/mass shootings as they are the hot topic. especially with this president its seemingly the only thing hes been actively pursuing his whole term. anyways, it doesnt fit the narrative and probably only gets reported on once or twice in the same day unlike every school shooting which is talked about on every station for atleast a week. Which is really just a "oh this so tragic, see shouldn't we ban guns". Trump had his own gripes about guns so you cant say im just a trump supporter. Im a supporter of whoever upholds the constitution and serves the people, yanno, like, their job, when they aren't funneling tax dollars into their account of course. which, fun fact, has been no one. for a very long time.
