I love your story. My brother was paralyzed in 1984 at the age of 19 in a diving accident on the Chattooga river. He was a level C5/6 with wrist extension and met his wife at Shepherd center in Atlanta Georgia. She was a case worker there and they were awesome together, they have a daughter who is now in college in Tennessee. He took it and went with it. Strongest person I have ever known. He went to college, then got his masters degree and was a rehab counselor. He drove his van with a ramp and hand controls and they went and did whatever they wanted to do.

@@mikesjunk00 with respect and kindness I write. We live life here on earth like a tapestry, unfortunately, most days we see the messed up side, God sees the finished piece. God doesn’t ever inflict harm nor pain, His perfect character can’t. He may allow things to happen to us, those are always inflicted by the enemy of old to always cause us pain and sorrow, somedays it feels like we can’t catch a break, “but” God will allow it, if it will make us into a better human, for our good. With that, my youngest passed from depression, I broke in a million pieces that night, I’ll never be whole here (we never will) but piece by piece, God is revealing His plan for me and my family, like in you. I had to read the story (Bible) again, that’s when all truths were revealing itself to me, that God is only love. I kept blaming the only innocent, the only kind one in all this. I’m in the middle of a battle (like each one of us here are) that this battle is not ours, nor ours to fight alone and that brighter days are coming for sure. God also allows these moments of joys in our lives (like these two couple) to happen to us to remind us that He’s not dead, but very much in control, plan A is still in motion, still stronger then ever and we win (as the last chapter in the Bible states). So Mike, I’m learning to put on my full armor daily (as the Bible calls it), and go into battle daily for all the good things in life worth fighting for; family, friends, people in general, work hard, etc. I hope that helps. One day, I will hold my son again, my table won’t have an empty chair. I live each day with the Hope. In closing, I’d like to leave you with this, “depression”: not a mind set or a choice, but a disease. No one is normal, normal is the dial on your dish washer, get help if you need it, life is tough, but life is precious, life is worth living. 💛

I adore you both. I am in a similar situation; my husband is a DV and I provide 24hour care to him also. I also advocate for him because the VA makes everything difficult. And I make sure to educate myself on all and any new health issues that come along. Life may seem hard for caregivers like us, but it's all worth it! we've been married for 15 years!

Yes! Agreed! Connect with Joni Erickson Tada and see how they've balanced care to allow for personal breaks and self care. Additionally, it will allow Hanna to stay strong for longer and not break down, needing care herself. Lastly, others will develop the care knowledge, too, and be able ro step in, in case something, God forbid, happens to Hanna. Even short term illness can wreak havoc on a necessary care program. 💝🙏 God bless you.

This is very very wise advice. More often than not the caregiver ends up getting sick. I know this from personal experience. It is very important for the caregiver to get breaks and practice self-care with regularity. I know the issue that a lot of us have is that we feel guilty if we are not the one caring for our loved one. We also believe that another person won't do it as well as us. We also understand that our loved one might not feel comfortable with a stranger caring for them so we do not want them to have to go through that. The problem is that eventually we burn out and as strong as we are, our bodies can get sick too. I learned about self care, taking breaks, and accepting help from others the hard way.

I think it might be helpful for them to connect with Cole and Charisma and also Shane and Hannah for tips on everything that folks seem to be worried about. Cole and Charisma (Roll with Cole and Charisma) do not have help and are doing just fine. Shane and Hannah (Squirmy and Grubs) are now preparing to hire help since they've started the IVF process. But prior to now, and they've been together over 5 years, Hannah has been Shane's only caregiver.

@@flimcomedy7667 As someone in a wheelchair I can tell you most people are incredibly shallow and only see the chair. It does not matter if your good looking, kind, smart or have a good sense of humor because what matters most to shallow people is convenience, in a world not designed for wheelchair users wheelchairs are inconvenient. The hardest part about being in a wheelchair is dealing with other people and overcoming all the social crap that comes with a disability, it is incredibly isolating on multiple levels. I have girls that wouldn't date me because they were afraid of what their friends or family would think, everyone is always telling them they can do better than being with someone disabled. So anyone who would be kind is dissuaded from doing so. Dating is a literal hellscape for most wheelchair users, as is most everything else. But we have to act happy about it all the time so all the shallow morons don't get perturbed and give us a lecture about how we should feel about our situation and treatment. The more love you need, the less you get.

This is such a heartwarming story of true genuine love, the best kind there could ever be. Back in the 70's I worked at an assisted living care center as an activities assistant. I met a man who broke his spine in a car accident and became a quadriplegic and was paralyzed in the same way as Jerod. He became so very special to me and I would take him out on day trips on my days off. It became very easy for me to transport him from his wheelchair into the car and out. I eventually had to leave and move to another city and he passed away six years later. He was just in his forties. Research into spinal injuries since the 70's has advanced and hopefully someday technology will advance as well to make it possible to help those who are paralyzed to walk again. Anything is possible and knowledge is power.

May God Bless you both. Your story is beautiful. My first husband had a car accident that left him c1-c2 quadriplegic and blind. Very tragic. This was 2004. He lived 6 months but never made it out of hospitals even though we tried. I am so happy for both of you to have each other. 💕❤️💕
