Love Your RV & Boat!

Part 5 of our journey from Sidney, BC, to Campbell River, takes us from Secret Cove on the Sunshine Coast up Malaspina Strait before we tuck in at a sheltered anchorage called Ballet Bay.
We liked the place so much that we spent an extra day hanging out, exploring by dinghy, and swimming in the ocean. Stay tuned for Part 6 as we journey up to Lund, BC.

Try to stop by the Texada Boat Club wharf in Van Anda sometime. ("Yacht Club" was a bit too uppity for them) The town has a very interesting feel, and still looks pretty much as I remember it from visiting there as a kid in the early 60's. Great place to wander around or bike across the island to the park/beach at Harwood Point.

I checked it out in 2018, took the truck across from Powell River, and drove around the town down to the marina and over to Shelter Point to see the campground.

It's really great to see you two doing something new together. Adventures like this can be hard to embark on due to fear of the unknown. We love our RV and have considered a boat. There are so many things to know about boating as far as, "Where is it legal to stay?" "How do marinas work?" So glad you are teaching us old dogs some new tricks.

Those of us who live in the area tend all too often to take the stunning beauty for granted. Its nice to be shown the vistas from another set of eyes, thank you. Now, I must get moving, we are going to meet my adult son for some kayaking on Spider Lake. Life is good.

Anne looks right smart at the Helm. Oh how I love these videos. You guys are moving at my pace. The area is so beautiful. I could use a cool dip in the water today as it is warm enough, but next week will be even warmer in Seattle. It looks much cooler north on the water. Ah, the life I am living through you guys. lol!

Hard to say so far having had so little time on the boat. But I can tell already that fresh fruits and veggies will be more of a challenge to have or at least much more expensive since we won't be as close to larger grocery stores. Weather will be of an even greater concern.

Driving a boat rattles my nerves. Sleeping on one at anchor however I am at peace. I think my biggest fear is docking to be honest. Smashing the dock to bits..... Yeah. Nerves.

This looks fantastic! After taking a break from your rv videos we were really surprised (and happy) to see that you have added the boating lifestyle to your mix now as well! You guys seem to handle the boat very well. Did you have a lot of previous experience in boating? Have you both also have done your Power Squadron as well? We retired 4 years ago to Mexico and return once per year to BC to visit our family and friends. Were now kicking around the idea of purchasing a boat there (trawler also, our last one was an express cruiser) or a small RV to spend the summers in.

Anne is the boater, she has boated for the last 25-30 years in BC waters around the Gulf Islands and Discovery Islands, mostly with a 18 foot Arima power boat. She belonged to the Sidney Power Squadron for many years and has a commercial SVOP - Small Vehicle Operator Proficiency Certificate as she, at one point, kicked around the idea of doing photo tours using her boat. I've never boated other than going out with her occasionally and fishing with friends but she can teach me and I got my Boating License (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) as a backup in case she can't pilot the boat for some reason. Here is Anne's tour of the boat kzbin.info/www/bejne/jajGp5iEpdeGrM0

Thanks Ray! Excited to see more of your boating videos this year. Do you guys keep the boat docked on the island or dry storage while your away? I'm trying to think of alternatives as moorage in Vancouver seems to be a bit difficult and expensive.

Hey, Ray. R/V Footprints here. Great to see you anchoring out. I'm sure you two have talked about a watermaker so that you can stay places longer. What are your thoughts?

Gonna wait and see how it goes. From what I can see, the boat has a newer installation 3 stacked 20-gallon plastic freshwater tanks on one side of the lazarette and the same size of maybe a bigger stainless tank on the other connected together. There is plenty of deck space to carry more, like the 60-gallon bladder I use for RVing. Also, the boat has saltwater toilets. I'm thinking I won't have too much of an issue.

@@LoveYourRV Good plan. We have several tanks that are plumed together through a manifold that total about 160 gallons. That lasts us about nine days, and includes showers and dish washing. We have two heads, but usually only use the one in our aft cabin. Nine days is our absolute limit with two people.
