That's what he looked like in early 1971 when I met him. That's Billy Swan on bass and the great famous sideman and producer Donnie Fritz on keyboards. I am struck down hard at his passing this weekend, and I'll never forget how brilliant he was, and how kind he was to me when I was just a student wanna-be journalist.

Kris is the songwriter and original recording artist. His version along with Waylon and the Glaser Brothers are my 3 favorite versions.
