Hello Doc, I think this is one of the best videos out there on low back pain. I think your tone and word choice make the information easily digestible to most people who will then be helped. 100% true- exercise, movement, and avoiding being sedentary are mandatory for chronic pain not related to 'disease', as you said. Unfortunately, when you have pain, it is really difficult to make yourself move so people just don't. Plus, chronic pain often causes a depressed mood or even depression, which makes it even harder to keep moving. As someone with chronic pain due to multiple injuries, I hope that people will take your advice and keep moving! It always makes me feel better!

I like the positive spin Doc Evans puts on this awful problem. Also pointing out that one's attitude about the matter is critical. A point to remember about life in general really. Informative video, great well spoken commentary - easier to follow with the simple/uncluttered animations. Many thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video available for all to see Doctor Evans!

Another excellent video, Dr. Mike. Thanks! This is a area I have worked extensively on in the last 21 years. I have come to realize that a great deal of back and other MSK pain can be linked back to poor core strength and poor pelvic stability. With the pelvic alignment being lost, pain starts locally in the lower back and gluteals and then expands to all over the body, including headache, jaw claudication and clicking, etc. I align my patients ( I am a family physician) give my patients instructions to be active, work on stretching and then focus on the core with a weighted hullahoop and a sit on a wobble cushion (passive core strengthening). I also give them a handout on pain management including hot and cold water therapy, massage, stretch and exercise. Happy to talk more about this. Dr. Bryan

I was with you until mid-way through. So I've had chronic back pain since 2015 and discomfort since about 2013/2014. I put it off as simply me being unfit, but gradually got worse, and worse and worse. This was to the point of being in agony from walking maybe a few hundred meters. So I go to my doctor, she recommends anti-inflammatories and physiotherapy. She believes it's simply a pulled muscle, so I go through the treatments. The anti-inflammatories work reasonably well, but they keep me awake at night, due to my chronic acid reflux (I've had it since I was 12 - burping causes stomach acid to burn my throat). So she puts me on mild pain killers. They work reasonably well without the upset stomach, but they give me headaches/dizziness. I stick with them until they lose their effect and I become reluctant to leave the house. My body has learnt that physical activity = pain. But I keep trying to soldier on, until the pain starts really affecting my life. In my desperation, I ask for a CT scan. I want to know what's wrong. It turns out that the pulled muscle was really a whole lot of disc bulges and herniations that's caused spinal stenosis. I'm a young guy, and I'm feeling the effects of stenosis now. Anyway, my doctor notices this, and gives me stronger painkillers, but is reluctant to consider surgery. That day, I feel pain relief that I've never felt before. But it's short lived. The pain eventually comes back. So I'm at a point where I'm not wanting to be on these painkillers that give you a taste of normal life, and then yank it away. I'm wanting to at least consider surgery. This pain is ruling my life. Bottomline, you don't understand chronic pain, until you've lived it.
@bxvideony8 жыл бұрын
This video is the truth and I'm living proof. I had herniated disc and bulging disc in lumbar area ( L4 L5 - L5 S1) . All doctors would tell me is surgery since it was a huge tear and even recommend shots for the pain. I kept it conservative and did lots of homework about my condition which build my confidence that I can overcome this pain with time and patience. It's been a year since my injury and I can't say I'm completely pain free but let's say I went from a 10(painful) to a 2. No surgery, no shots, just a good chiropractor (check reviews before going) physical therapy and the rest I did on my own. This video is good advice don't give up

I've watched dozens of videos on lower back pain this past year, and none has explained my condition so precisely and so clearly. I have a very obvious back dominant pain (EXACTLY the symptoms you described!), so I'm relieved to learn no serious damage is present, and also I'm encouraged to resume my physical activity rather than limit it. Also, the illustrations are great! Thanks a lot Doc!

Hello there! I used to deal with back pain too and I would like to share my experience with you. First of all, do not worry, back pain can result from our daily activities, can get worse without exercise and a lot of people are complaining about this, especially after the lock down. Not exercising isn't the best idea, because we need to increase the blood circulation in the affected area, which happens when we exercise. I have stumbled upon a simple to use product that has helped a lot of people, because it stretches your back and massages the area to relieve the pain. Basically it does the exercise for you. It is extremely helpful for lower back pain and it was designed by chiropractors and physiotherapists. I will recommend this to everyone because it is a life-changer. I got it from www.drspinex .com and it is super effective. Remember, exercise is the key and with this, it is a lot easier. Hope you got some value from this and I wish you nothing but good luck and health ^_^

When I had ongoing back pain last year, I did go for the x ray and MRI that was suggested. My mother has severe stenosis and it has debilitated her to the point that she can barely move. She refused any kind of treatment when this all started, and my fear is that I will end up immobile. My ortho doc found moderate stenosis and arthritis, and prescribed physical therapy for just a month. He also prescribed a tens machine. I didn't stop my exercise routine (zumba) but I did modify it. I just didn't jump or do anything that made it hurt more. I went to therapy 3 times a week, and I learned all of the exercises well enough to do them at home. I took over the counter meds, and used the tens machine as needed. The back pain got better. I'm a big believer in physical therapy because they don't do all the work, you do. They just teach you how to do it. So now I've incorporated these exercises into my workout routine. I think this is a great video to help point out the different kids of back pain with advice on what to do, and it also encourages movement. We all have to keep moving or we'll rust! Great job as always, love your videos.

This video is so helpful! I got an excellent tretment for back pain many years ago. Now I'm over 35 and thought I should go back to the doctor, since I'm experiencing a mild back pain in the morning. But now I realised this is "good" back pain and I should just keep on exercising! Peace of mind is the best medicine :)

Thank you for this video it helped me relax. I have back pain for a month now and today it got worse. I was crying all day and tomorrow I have an important presentation and I can't bend or move comfortably. I thought it is something serious or slipped disk or something. I have a little baby and I have to move a lot and it's really painful . But after watching this video I feel kind of relaxed and relieved especially that the pain will go away on its own but I have to be patient. I loved when u said " motion is lotion" .. That's deep man. The illustrations are fantastic. Thanks again. Big like and share.

It's been four months since you posted your comment which was to me truly touchy. I was wondering how you are holding up so far, I hope you ain't suffering any back pains no longer. For the first time in my life, I've just started experiencing sciatica nerve pains a month ago, and it's killing me especially when I'm sitting down.

I started doing deadlifts by myself two years ago and ever since then I started to feel some pain in my lower back. I'm actually feeling it as I' typing this. From what I can tell, it extends to my legs but the pain is primarily in the lower back. I exercise with way more caution now, but it's like every time I workout a little bit more the pain gets back and it lasts for weeks. I don't have any history with cancer nor does my family really (except for my grandma who had breast cancer) so I don't consider this a red flag, but it's obviously something chronic perhaps... putting some ice gives me relief but it's definitely not enough.

but related to technique and loading,many times these are missed because imaging might be normal but the back is telling you something is wrong. Many times these are related to dic overloading. We have a few videos on this specifically on our page

I absolutely LOVE your video's! They are a huge resource in regards to my nursing studies but most importantly, personal resource for my LBP. I have had a microdiscectomy with much relief and now trying to increase core strength as my left SI joint is really involved ( constant lower leg muscle fisiculations and pinpoint pain in the distal portion of my SI joint) I have had a recent SI joint injection ( 8 days ago) and find a mild decrease in pain. Walking, swimming and decreasing sitting have been my best friend! I use to be so scared of re-injury and going back to that intense pain and immobility, that it almost blocked my attempts to get better. I know take it day by day and have been able to be OK with living with 3/10 pain. Funny thing with back injury is how well you learn to take care of your back and for my profession, how to be able to guide those in having quality of life and proactive health involvement. I am 32 y/o and plan on continuing to nurture myself and learn to train my brain to be ok with mild pain. I only take naproxen now and due to physical exercise, weight loss, clean eating and mindful awareness...i have not taken any narcotics/anticonvulsants ( gabapentin) or muscle relaxers ( flexeril). I would love to know some exercises that could reduce the ( snap or pop sound) that comes from my SI joint, can ligaments ever regain stabilization again? Thank you for your incredible insight and devotion to humanity!

This is so amazing and helpful. Thank you so so much! After being in a car accident I was told I shouldn't exercise because of the sciatic nerve and disc damage, but this now gives me a lot of hope! Have been doing Accupuncture, chiropractic and massage and have gotten a lot better but my MIND was what was unhealthy! I would spend most days off babying my back or laying down and I realize now slight movement and a positive attitude (along w active treatment) is the remedy! I'm only 28 so I was fearful this would be a chronic condition, now I know I can overcome it. Thank you Dr. Evans!

@andreilucuta39784 жыл бұрын
Hello There, Nicole! It is a shame that this happens to you at this age, but this can happen to everybody at any age. I had the same issue and now I understand why. Firstly, back pain can result from bad posture during our daily activities, lack of exercise and wrong moves. The intensity of the pain, doesn’t always correlate with the severity of the situation. We instantly think that moving causes more pain, but actually, exercising increases the blood circulation in the affected area, which leads to a faster recovery. I have used a simple product that you can use anywhere and it does the work for you. It is designed by chiropractors and physiotherapists for people to relieve the pain at home. All you have to do is to lay on it or put behind you on a chair, and it stretches the spine, relaxes the muscles and gently massages the area. I have experienced instant relief and a great improvement after a few sessions and will recommend this to anybody. The one I used was from www.drspinex .com and it really did the work. Hope you got some value out of this and I wish you nothing but good fortune and health! :D

Hello sir DocMikeEvans... You said that lack of activity due to lower back pain is a yellow flag. However, I have chronic back pain which has been continuing over an year or so and has not yet reduced. And I noticed my lower back pain first when I had tried to do parkour moves (specifically the parkour roll, and certain vaults). Also, unlike what was said in the video, my pain increases when bending over or doing any gymnastics moves, including the above parkour moves and things like handstands. The pain especially is higher in the morning times and it does not spread to the legs (that is, it is back dominant), but to the sides, ie, the hips. In fact, the doctor forbade me from doing any gymnastics like handstands, parkour rolls, etc. Since then, I have never been able to learn any new moves plus I am slowly abandoning all the parkour that I knew. I tried lots of exercises for lower back pain but they just worsened it. Is there any possible diagnosis and treatment for this?
