Just seen a video before where the Chipset of the osmo action 5 pro was analised. The Chipset is capable of 8k video encoding and could easily push 200+ mbit/s bitrate battery life would probably be down by 20-30% but who cares, if you have 3 Battery's? 🤷

I live in SoCal, and I have 2 friends that I grew with that are CPU Architecture Performance Engineers at Qualcomm San Diego. They watched that video and said there is no way that chip could easily do 8k video/push 200+ mbit/s in the Action 5 form factor. It doesn'tt have the thermal cooling capabilities to keep the CPU in its safe operating temperature. Basically, the CPU will start experiencing degradation issues due to heat and will start to fail. Also, in order to hit that 8k/200+ mbit/ they said DJI would have to offload a lot of the CPU cycles that happen in the background. Things like HorizonSteady and RealSteady. In order for that chip to hit 8k/200+ mbit/s it would need to be in a much larger form factor with really good thermal managment, offloading a lot of the background application to a secondary CPU and the main CPU only handling the 8k/200+ mbit/s. Something that will never happen in the Action 5 Pro.

People tend to forget that even 100MBit/s is a ridiculous high bitrate, even for 4k footage. If someone still knows MPEG2 codecs for 1080p video, which were (in theory) so far inferior to H.264, H.265, but sees 130MBit h.256 videos with blocks and artefacts, then you know that the hardware compressor is simply of very bad quality. I really wonder why almost no-one talks about how bad so many hardware codecs are nowadays. In MPEG2, when most compressors still worked in software, there were huge(!) difference in quality at same bitrate between them. So DJI answer may be marketing talk, but it should be possible to simply increase H.256 compressor quality by a big step as well

Everything one watches is in 8-bit. 3840 x 2160 at 24 fps would take up 1,593 Megabits per second if you wanted each pixel to have a full color. So 120 Mbps is around 8% of the original data (assuming 24 fps!). So 90 would be 6%. The 2% difference in the scheme of things would be difficult to notice. As DJI pointed out, higher bitrates mean more power consumption. If you tried to capture RAW sensor data from an action cam the device would probably explode, or at least melt ;) I don't own either device but it looks to me like the 5 has more "HDR" processing, like that found in phones. people who are complaining have NO knowledge about camera tech. my canon r6ii records 4k30p at 60mbs, and canon log in 80mbs. yet its way better than any action camera. beginners have PTSD from gopro compression so all they want and know is high bitrate. do people know the advantage of high bitrate? its only relevant in very fast motion, and it would ONLY be noticeable when all other things are good as well. like a good bigger sensor, and no denoising or sharpening. if the camera is NOT good in low light it would create compression artefacts, its got nothing to do with bitrate. if the camera is doing too much sharpening or denoising, it would create compression artefacts in fast motion. if the camera processor is NOT good, it would NOT be able to process the images quickly and would create compression artefacts. all this is ONLY noticeable in fast motion action. if youre just doing simple walking movements, you wouldnt notice compression from most cameras in bright daylight. the DJI action 5 pro is using a very good processor and compression method and its able to provide good image quality with its bitrate. its all about the sensor size , processor and codec used. not a bunch of bitrate for numbers.

@@captureguide They used a qualcomm chipset in this one which is a powerhouse really, dji so far has only scratched the surface of its capabilities. I wanna buy action 5 pro but the night mode low light footage so far on all reviews look jittery. Do you think the low bitrate issue, the low light flare and jitter issue, the hdr issues are fixable with ota updates?
@captureguide2 күн бұрын
Can only speculate at the moment. There's no official statement whether these things will or can be fixed. I think we will see improvements, but I'd say you should wait a bit longer before buying it unless you need it asap.

"Windows" didn't release Windows Vista or Windows 7. Microsoft did that. Microsoft had a very long and troubled development history behind Windows Vista, which is why it was a terrible version of Windows. For the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, the concerns in this video are completely within firmware updates, not hardware limitations. And, no, the Action 6 will not be released "soon". It will be release this time next year.

@@SPreeti-oc9kb The jitters will just be a result of the stabilisation struggling with low shutter speeds. It's a matter of physics, so unless you have a camera that can handle really high ISOs well you'll need a gimbal to smooth everything out. Thankfully there's a few options that are pretty cheap these days.

They did the same at Gopro from the 11 to the 12. I owned both and did some tests with it. The bittrates on the 12 were way lower. Logical because they said they had increased battery life and addressed the overheating. While it was still the very same hardware (they removed the GPS), this should have been done by firmware. Lower bitrates is less processing. Less processing is less power draw and less heat generation. And voila! Especially the resolutions and framerates they had advertised having a longer runtime with the overheating resolved, all had a drastic drop in bitrate compared to the 11. Do DJI probably took the same path here...

how low is it on the 12? if i do 4k60 standard bitrate no hdr the bitrate is 60Mbs on my 11.

@@bikingchupei2447 Sorry, I thought for a moment that you had asked for 4K30, I was typing/ reading on my phone. But 4K60 makes a difference yes. The biggest difference is on 1080p30 as you can see. That resolution which they had advertised having a big leap in runtime/battery life and no overheating. Well they jad just cut the bitrates in half haha

@@bikingchupei2447 Yes I had already typed most of my findings here, before that last message. But it seems it got somehow blocked or something. I had put all my findings of 1080p and 4K here, both for 30 and 60 fps. Sometimes YT is very annoying with it's algorithms...

Each product is different in there own way. Action 5 only has a bit rate of 60 MBps bitrate therefore for cinematic i vote for Gopro 12/13 where bit can go 120 MBps plus. Thanks

The GoPro 13 with it's same Tiny crappy sensor from the 11 will never be cinematic. No amount of bitrate will fix that.

I’ll be honest, OA4 footage looks better..sharper and more controlled contrast. The lower bit rate is madness…

At least its far superior in low light, rivaling that of the Insta360 AcePro! And its colors are still far more natural and crisp compared to the GoPro Hero 13 Black! Otherwise, we'll see if the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 can surprise!

@@thetanweerali I would get the GoPro 13 and install the GoPro Labs firmware. Then set the camera to 200 mbit/s and sharpening to off. It will give you the best looking video out of all action cameras. Also Labs firmware gives sooo many more option that DJI can only dream about.

It comes down to the picture quality. I have a GoPro and does anyone want to buy it. The DJI kills it and its my next camera for my bike or an X4. Its a toss up. GoPro is going to a new home that knows no better.
