The plate on the bottom of the beer keg manifold is notorious for blowing the gasket and creating a dead hole by sucking oil up into the intake and going into the intake ports making an oily looking plug. Easiest way to check is hold the butterflies open on the throttle body and shine a flashlight in. I've got many of the magnum engines that people thought need rebuilt that are perfectly fine. The new gasket kits have shorter bolts for the plate to stop this issue.

I’ll be watching! Decent stock numbers, but not too surprising. As a Ford guy, I can say I dig those late model Magnum heads…if I remember correctly, I think they have 8mm valve stems and an exhaust valve in the neighborhood of 1.625”- probably why they sounded so good in trucks with a cat back exhaust. I’m curious to see if the longtube headers can bring peak power over 300. I helped a kid install longtubes on his ‘95 Ram, then I fab’ed up a full 2.5” true dual exhaust with Flowmaster Super-10 mufflers…that thing was L-O-U-D. I also milled, radiused, ported and polished his throttle body. The kid used to “goose” the throttle all the time to get it up on the converter and it would bark, I could hear him leave the shop and continue to hear him (from inside my apt!) all the way to his neighborhood! It was about a 5-6 mile trip and my apartment at the time was about a third of the way through his commute. We had planned to install a small cam with a tight LSA and take 2” of runner length from the intake but he ran out of cash and I got married and moved away. Such is life, I’d like to play with one of those again.

For some reason my 97 Dakota is very picky with injectors. I had a misfire on cylinder 2 and diagnosed it as an injector. I used 3 different aftermarket injectors from AutoZone and O'Reilly's and the misfire persisted. I was stumped for a while. Thought I might have misdiagnosed it and went through the steps again. Sure enough, I had it right the first time. I moved the brand-new aftermarket injector to another cylinder and the misfire followed. I measured the resistance of the aftermarket injector and compared it to a good OEM one from another cylinder and the aftermarket injector was at 14 or 15 ohms if I remember correctly and the OEM was 8 or 9 ohms so that was the problem. I finally broke down and paid the extra $60 dollars for an OEM Mopar injector and the problem went away.

I'm a Mopar guy but GEE, that sure seems a lot like the power curve of a GM 350 TPI engine...............

Perfect place to show a 100hp gain with just a cam swap!

I bet it'll be close to 100hp with the right cam swap. The only things in you combination that will be negatively affecting getting 100hp from a cam swap will be your small port manifolds and the factory 8:1 compression ratio. Too big of cam with stock compression you'll loose power, too small you won't make enough.

@@kelseyschoenbaum4681 5.9 magnums had 9:1.
@kelseyschoenbaum46813 жыл бұрын
@@frigglebiscuit7484 the 318 magnum had flat top pistons which gave 9:1 compression, the 360 magnums used dished pistons and are 8:1. It specifies 8:1 in my 2003 factory service manual and in my 1993 factory service manual so it never changed throughout production.

The biggest drawback on magnums is the cam...... go up a stage or 2 and they really start waking up 😉
