Stock Magnums were rev limited to 5250RPM. They ran into valve float after that. Stock heads: Michigan heads, 195-205CFM. Mexican 5.9L heads: 215CFM. Make sure you have Mexican heads, better parting lines, and truer to design ports. Wake that engine up with a REALLY good porting and polish with 2.02 intake valves (Steve Sanchez at Total Flow in Troy, MI). Get a better cam, single piece pushrods, and try a set of Crower S.S. 1.7 ratio full roller rockers. My Magnum? This is sort of like the engine my friend built and sold to me in a '94 F250 reg cab 2wd 5 speed manual, it's a 393 stroker AFR 175cc heads with 1.8 rockers, stock 5.0 H/O cam, Lightning lower, Explorer upper, 70mm TB, Longtube Tri-Y headers ran into a single 3.5" exhaust. I figured it must make 350-400hp and at least 500TQ, if stock iron Magnum heads and a cam that small did this on a 410ci, I must have been correct, certainly with more cam, maybe a tiny bit of head porting and /or bigger intake valves, a highrise air gap single plane intake and either an 850cfm carb or Holley Sniper it would be around 500hp+ and 475-525tq. This was very encouraging, I could tell the truck is strong, if you dump the clutch in 2nd it rolls white smoke off a 255/85 16 tire that weighs 80lbs on a steel wheel with an open 3.55 diff and keeps burning out violently after the bang shift to 3nd for 200-300feet at 85mph then finally hooks up in 4th around 100mph. It belonged to the owner of the AHRA, Dallas Brown. I bought it last spring.
@joefreeman97332 жыл бұрын
Well not being critical but it is about what one would generally expect to see happen. The small block Chrysler has a long rod anyhow so the stroke to rod ratio remains OK without too much angularity.the up of 50 cu inches is all due to stroke so of course torque curve starts earlier is flatter and appreciably higher. Back in 2000 I built a 360 with Edelbrock alum heads and CR. 10 to 1.that engine generated 414 hp and 440 ft lbs of torque with a pretty hot hydraulic flat tappet cam and 2 step headers running an Edelbrock dual plane and a 3310 Holley. Increase the cubes 50 ci. 50 more ft lbs of torque. On a typical move from a 350 Chev to a 383 with a 6 inch rod watch your torque jump from around 405 to 460 ft lbs even more dramatic 33 more cubes and around 55 ft lbs of torque increase. Not surprisingly the hp didn't do too much because the heads AND the cam are too small for the cubes.the increase in carb size and the result shows what we already knew or could have guessed. The CR of course at 10.75 with the iron heads means you re not going to be using 91 octane pump gas as I am able to do with my 10 to 1 alum head motor. About 4 years ago I screwed together a 408 stroker 360 using the as cast Edelbrock heads a full roller hydraulic valve train 1 step headers and an Indy single plane manifold . CR was 10 .1 to 1. That engine dynoed at 495 ft lbs of torque but 502 hp at 5800 rpm. And yes I went to Carillo rods in that engine. I used a single plane to KILL some torque since the engine was going in a 65 Dart a relatively light car running 3.9 gears. I don't jerk around with net or gross hp When the engine goes on the dyno I'm running belts and accessories as it's going to be in the car if humanly possible the same headers. I generally figure around 65 hp for drive train loss and it's usually pretty close when the car goes on the chassis dyno. It's a nice short block. I'd probably have Hughes or someone similar CNC port a set of Edelbrocks go to a Harland Sharp roller rocker and stand setup put better than stock rods in the engine and keep it just under 6000 with an appropriately sized hydraulic roller cam. It would also be interesting to use a FAST EFi system for more precise fuel monitoring and fuel air ratio across the band than is possible with a carb. Had the builders gone with a lower compres s ion setup in my opinion it would have made an excellent motor for a 1500 Dodge Ram to haul a one car trailer and car particularly with EFI had the engine been running around 9.75 with the iron heads. As it is I'm not sure what you d use the engine for.

305hp and 414 Lb. Ft. for a basically stock 360 is pretty good. And with just the stroker kit swap, 334hp and 490 Lb. Ft. is very impressive. And then they top themselves with the 950 on it, it made 339hp and 498 Lb. Ft. That's insane for essentially a stock small block. BUT, they are running the engine with absolutely NO parasitic loss from accessories. There isn't a single thing pulling off the crank, they don't even have a belt on the crank at all! These are gross horsepower/torque numbers, not what the factory uses. Factory numbers are SAE Net, that is with all accessories, water pump, fan, alternator, power steering pump, and the air conditioning compressor. So don't be fooled by the numbers here. They are good, but not what you will see in the vehicle with all the accessories pulling off the front of the crank.

Also, the original was pulled out of an automatic setup (I took the flex plate off, it never had a flywheel-that was new part), and when I did pull the crank anyway I found brown color babbit on the main crank bearings, so I know it was well worn (maybe prolonged oil changed) and ready to blow up sooner then later. If I can't find the 7.3 IDI E350 I want, that's the route I'll most likely go as well. Stroke a 5.8 to 408ci with an 'RV' cam to produce gobs of low end torque. More bottom end torque means you need less gear out back for a given tire size and the converter can stay locked in 4th gear longer, resulting in better mileage than stock.

I understand they just wanted to see what it would do, but they should have put a cam in it. Now if they want to put a cam in it, they have remove all the front stuff, balancer, cover, timing chain, etc. Most everyone would do a cam/stroker kit (extra $375), and then do heads later, that's what makes sense. The way they did it was just a waste of.a stroker kit. But I'm glad they did a before and after dyno run. Everyone remember, the Hp and Tq was Gross, no accessories, subtract ~40hp for water pump, alternator, power steering (A/C), and another 15hp if you're running a clutch ran. Factory 360 magnum was 250hp NET, so with headers, that right where this engine was at.
