Building our cheap high Horsepower naturally aspirated 1.6 Miata engine, we went full out on DIY modification that only need hand tools to be done and some time. In This video, we show you, what we have done to the stock connecting rods to make them much lighter, instead of buying expensive forged units. This costs only 20$ or so in tools

Yeah next part is the crank though i have to get it rebalanced first and still thinking about getting it ground down since one journal has a bit of scoring but not terribly much

@@RaoulRacingRC unfortunately i dont have a car for this engine right now and also very little time so i dont actually know, sorry, but i already modified the crank and started work on the pistons and looked into what to do on the block

Please also release a video explaining what you did there. Would be very interesting to watch and maybe to replicate!

great stuff! I did this on my most recent build but much more conservatively by just smoothing out rough casting remains. IMO you still need rod strength in n/a applications because most likely the rev limit is increased from stock / what the rods were designed for. more room for potential is in aftermarket forged pistons that are usually way oversized - my supertechs for example I got down from 441g to 396g ! good job on sharing info like this, love grassroots / diy / budget builds!

yeah you definetly need some strength in the rods still, but reasearching some different engines that have MUCH thinner rods and knowing, that these rods are able to handle about 300 hp in a boosted application would give me confidence to shave off even more although im not going to. I love getting the most out of cheap parts thats basicically the main goal on this channel. because it works just aswell in most cases. im gonna go for stock pistons because the bores are still plenty within spec and im probably gonna remove about 30-40 gramms from each piston. Im also going to lighten the crankshaft and have it be rebalanced and save about 1.5 to 2kg there. The stock valves also have huge optimization potential since they are very thick at the base.

The poor plant is allowed to enter the stage, but only by half.
