@ItsClutchGaming to be honest either. They both have low seat height, comfortable positioning and are smooth on the throttle. I find the ninja more responsive. With the two it will come down to your own personal preference. Test ride them both if you have opportunity 👍

@ItsClutchGaming never ridden before but I do hear the Honda CBR300R wins as overall best beginner bike.
@kameronmclendon557
@kameronmclendon557 3 жыл бұрын
@ItsClutchGaming neat! Here are the top five that vie for best beginner bikes. Honda CBR300R Kawasaki Ninja 400 KTM RC 390 Suzuki GXS250R And Yamaha R3 I personally wouldn’t look any past those unless you just have a different style (i.e you’re a cruiser or HD guy, or maybe want something even smaller like the Grom) The price range new is about the same overall; respectively: $4999 (ABS) $5299 (ABS) $5499 (ABS-only) $4499 (unsure of ABS pricing, typically tacks on an extra $300) $5299 (ABS) I’m told as a beginner ABS is probably the best option you could ever have, so an extra $300-500 per model is worth it. (Non-ABS are what I listed above, save some $300.) Spec wise, also respectively: 26.7 HP, 286cc single, 0-60 @ 6.5 sec 43.3 HP, 399cc twin, 0-60 @ 4.6 sec (most powerful in-class) 42.5 HP, 373cc single, 0-60 @ 4.6 sec 20.6 HP, 249cc twin, 0-60 @ 9.1 sec (least powerful in-class) 35.1 HP, 321cc twin, 0-60 @ 5.3 sec Power/performance delivery, all bikes deliver linear, with the exception of the Honda. The Honda is extremely torquey, so that means that all the power in down low, whereas the other bikes are more consistent through the gears. The fact that the Honda is different like that, it’s absolutely *prime* for city riding as all your power is down low, where you can make the most out of and in between every red light. It will do freeways too, but from what I see people don’t as often as a bigger bike. Not sure myself as, again, never rode myself. So if you’re in the city, I would imagine the Honda. If you’re more of a rural area of back in the sticks, the Ninja would be better-suited. And obviously the more powerful the bike, the better your highway riding will be. (The Ninja ‘Ninjette’ handles the freeway wonderfully, as expected being the most powerful in-class.) The weights of each of them are roughly the same save a few pounds for an average of 370 pounds (that’s light). Now, keep in mind with the class the Kawasaki and KTM are much more powerful, delivering almost 70+ more cc for the same class, so naturally those are more powerful, but that does come with a slightly larger budget. That said, the ‘400 standard’ actually dropped the prices of the smaller ones. So while the new prices are close together, used bikes (in great condition) or never-before-owned ‘used’ bikes (last year models that are still considered new, just not actual newest model.) are considerably cheaper. In fact, in my area (DFW), I can find brand new (new as in never used) Honda CBR300R for $3600. That’s well under the ‘new’ price as it’s last year’s model so dealers are trying to get rid of inventory. Personally, I think the GXS250R shouldn’t be compared to the rest of the class, and I wouldn’t get it for sure. May be a personal preference if you like it though. I just feel it’s lackluster compared to. Anyway, like I said, I did do thorough research so I hope this helps!

I agree 100%.... The Ninja is the best one of these bikes by far. That being said, i strongly strongly urge any new riders who feel strongly that they will want to go faster eventually to buy a used version of any of these first. The reason i say that is you can pick up a very good used version of one of these for dirt cheap. I would bet my life that most guys will end up being happy they did. If you drop it or scratch it or anything its not the end of the world and all the money you saved can go toward either your new ninja 400 or a 600cc supersport or whatever you decide you want. If you resale that used bike in the summer you may come out even or even possibly a little ahead if you can buy one during the winter... To any new riders that read this always worry about accuracy before speed.

Back in March 2019, i was looking around for ninja 400s in my area and went to check out my local dealership, it was a green 400 and i loved it. Talked to the guy and decided to come back in a week to finalize my decision. I finally made my decision to buy it and went again the following friday, only this time there was a blue 2019 Yamaha R3 sitting right next to it. When i first saw it i thought it was an r6 but quickly realized the "big" cc bikes where kept in another area. I had seen pictures of the r3 but thought it looked kinda ugly, but seeing it right there in front of, it looked mean and fkn sharp as hell. I didn't even have to wait or think about anything lol, two hours later i was doing 70 mph down the freeway on my 2019 r3 :) Ive put 12,000 miles on it so far and it still bring a huge smile to my face, and i get a TON of compliments on the bike, even other bikers think its an r6 or an r1 when they see me rolling up lol.

I've had a non-sports bike that was setup for track, and couldn't get used to how it rode. Found out with that bike, how much ergonomics matter for me. Also, most of my track buds that ride r3's have nothing but positive things to say, and I noticed how these bikes helped improve their abilities. It’s pretty remarkable how far this class has come in just the past 8 years that I’ve been riding. When I started the only real options were the Ninja 250R and the CBR250R and I went with the Kawasaki. The Suzuki would’ve possibly been competitive 10 years ago but now is so far behind the rest. Even as an experienced rider that R3 is actually pretty damn tempting, it’s a shame it’s stuck with that exhaust note though.

Just a bit of a side note on the engine aspect of the KTM, the RC has a break-in period of 1000 km (roughly 600 miles) where it can't go over 7500rpm, where most of the power is found.(You can actually see it say 'Transport Lock' in 4:06, which says that the engine hasn't been broken-in) While what Chase said isn't false, especially considering the bike was still in break-in mode, the engine has a lot more to give for the highway. On the topic of wind protection, I agree, the windshield is not the best stock, you would have to get like, KTM's powerpart or an aftermarket windscreen to get some semblance of wind protection. The dash is terrible as well so not much to comment on there. I do agree where Chase ranked the RC, the bike is too 'specialized', so to speak, its too aggressive in its ergos and engine. It runs hot, especially in warmer climates, the brakes have a lot of initial bite, and the price is not one for the faint hearted. Edit: The rumored new 2020-ish RC390 seems to fix the dash and windscreen complaint that seems to have plauged the KTM in this comparison. I sure do hope Chase revisits the new RC390 once it comes out.

Well it went like I thought it would. CHASE. You should have to get a Yamaha tattoo after this. Ironically I don't disagree with anything other than the last two rankings. I chose the Ninja 400 for myself based on the same things you mentioned. The exception was that I liked the fact it was a more relaxed seating position, and I liked that it could peel out of the corners quicker. I don't feel unstable and I feel plenty planted when leaning. They're all personal preferences though so to each their own! Enjoyed the video from one Northern Georgia Rider to another. :)

@@chad_is_here likely just his personal preference. Giving him the benefit of the doubt and not just calling it as him trying to stack in the R3's favor lol. I do see where he might think that since he's used to 600's and up given that their weight would hold you in the turn, but since the 400 is so light and agile you have to keep your position or it will stand up with the gyro forces from the wheels.

@Michael H. if my experience so far on mine is anything to go by, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Enough engine for me to grow as a rider, overtake traffic when I need to, and really learn how to ride. I can even beat the 600 bros in corners. My only negative was the exhaust because it blocked my boat anchor of a foot. Less than $150 later that is resolved and it gave the bike a little more HP than before. 2.5 boost to something that was only making 45hp before hand is certainly enough to feel. I recommend to anyone that want to buy one in this class to try the R3 and the Ninja 400. I tried both and being 6" I fitted in the ninja much better than in the R3, I loved much more the aesthetics and position of the R3, but I was shrinked af, my elbows was way over my knees when tucked in. At the end I decided to go for the ninja, also because in the future I can buy some lowered clip-ons and rear sets to adjust my position to be more aggressive, while still having that awesome engine. Anyway, I think that you won't miss with any of the two, you will have tons of fun and love riding them.

Hi chase, I had an r3 for two years and have now had a ninja 400 for a year and a half. Totally know what u mean about the r3, well rounded, great bike. However even with my akropvich exhaust there wasn't enough top end speed. With my ninja it's definitely a better engine but as far as the overall ride you can tell the design team kinda rushed it out the door. I'm still happy with it and having had both bikes I can't argue with your opinion of the r3 coming in first

Hey man, this is great content and I really enjoyed it. My only issues were your overtakes in the opening; you’re moving sideways and forwards into the space that a car would be if it decided to change lanes and you wouldn’t have been in their side mirror at all. If you plan your overtakes in advance so you’re in the lane you intend to be in before you reach the line of the car they may still change lane, but you’ve increased your chances to be seen and also the time you have to brake. Stay safe man, the world needs people with your passion

"It felt like I really had to push the RC390" Good. That's exactly how that bike wants to be ridden, it's not happy puttering about, and even though most of its power is lower in the band, that little single is happiest when bouncing off the limiter. Also, it is the only bike on this list that outright *needs* a power commander (or other piggyback) straight from the factory. KTM tuned the thing to pass emissions and keep the bike A2 compliant in Europe. An ECU flash to pump more fuel into the engine and increase the rev limiter by another 1000rpm makes this a no-contest choice in the beginner bike lineup, so long as you're okay with your standard eurobike eccentricities
